ORA-06502 when downloading report via BI Publisher

I'm getting this error when trying to export an interactive or standard report using the BI Publisher report server. It doesn't happen on all reports, but I'm not sure what could be causing the error. The result is an excel file with the message:
<pre>report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small</pre>
The standard report has 45 columns and 755 rows. There aren't any errors on the UI when the report is generated.
Has anyone had this problem or know what to do to fix it? I can't recreate the interactive report region on the same page because there are hundreds of saved reports that I can't delete.
APEX 4.1.1.00.23
Oracle 11g 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
Thanks!
Jonathan Hart

After reading through the trace file from the report generation it looks like the error is caused from binding the sql query to some query or data type within the APEX engine. I double-checked the length of the query and it is longer than 4000 characters. I'm sure some of the interactive report queries are also longer than 4000 with all the filters added in.
Is there anyway to fix this?

  • Scientific Notation when Downloading Reports

    When downloading reports from a web template, in either Excel or CSV, some values are getting converted to scientific notation in the downloaded file. I am wondering if there is a setting which prevents any data to be converted to scientific notation when downloading. The data appears to be fine when viewing the report in Web.

    Hi Ripel
    You have downloaded the file to CSV which is also excel based format and uses most of the Excel's features, and when data is CSV file is in scientic foirmat , same will come in notepad..just do one thing select the format as number in the csv file by selecting column...and save it...in csv/notepad you will now see actual value

  • Error when trying to run an FSG Report via XML Publisher...

    hello.
    Hope someone can help.
    This is our first look into the benefits of XML Publisher in order convince Manager to start using it. Thing is, we really need to get both FSG reports and Dunning Letters working.
    We've currently got XML Publisher 5.0.0 and BI Publisher Template Builder for Word v10.1.3.2.0
    First up, FSG reports. Having followed this link here:
    http://solutionbeacon.blogspot.com/2007/07/simple-tutorial-for-publishing-fsg.html
    Ive managed to create a template based upon the basic FSG template supplied. I’ve follwed easy steps but on submitting the request against ANY [its what the notes said] FSG report the error messages from both the log and output files are given.. Those being..
    Output file displayed the most productive error message:
    DECLARE
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-06550: line 133, column 8:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'SUBMIT_XML_REQUEST'
    ORA-06550: line 133, column 5:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Can anyone help please? Or perhaps suggest an alternative to running FSG reports through XML Publisher.
    Other thought was, do I need any different versions and/or Publisher Enterprise installing?
    Many thanks for reading this..
    Steven

    ..having tried an alternative presentation I got a singular FSG report to generate in PDF via XML Publisher..

  • Got error ORA-06502 when creating a report page

    Hi,
    I got ORA-06502 error message when trying to create a report page using one particular query (see below). It happened in the 'SQL Query' step. After put query in the text box and click on 'Next' button, the error message read

    Exactly same query running in sqlplus session against same database and same schema can run thru fine.

  • ORA-06502 when trying to call a function inside my report

    Hi guys,
    I have the following code in a function to get my open bal for a field in my report but I am getting ORA-06502 every time I try to run it.

    else
    v_prv_period := to_char(to_number(to_char(:p_date_From,'YYYYMM')-1));
    end if;

    Try using varchar2 with length specified instead of char in the variable declarations.

  • ORA-06502 when searching region source

    The following is listed as a limitation of Apex 3.1, for both interactive reports and the application builder, although the specific context is not mentioned.
    The row length limit is 32k (just as with Classic Reports). You can include more columns but if too many are selected to be displayed, the user will get the following error - "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small". This should be considered when creating your report.You can find that here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.1_known_issues.html
    I'm getting this very error when trying to search region source for one of my application items. Presumably the region source is larger than the 32k limit where my particular page item is being used?
    Can anyone from Oracle verify that this is still a problem in Apex 3.2.0.00.27?

  • ORA-06502 When using MAX(Column) with %TYPE

    Hi Guys,
    Just had this discussion on the main database forums, and the problem was somewhat resolved. But they did ask me to check here if this was a known issue.
    Assuming I have a table defined as follows
    CREATE TABLE TEST_TABLE (TEST_COLUMN CHAR(8 BYTE)) ;and the table only has a single record NZ07100S
    We also define a function as
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION
    FUNCTION GETTESTVALUE
    RETURN TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE
    IS
    TEST_VALUE TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT MAX(TEST_COLUMN) INTO TEST_VALUE FROM TEST_TABLE;
    RETURN TEST_VALUE;
    END;We ran the following command
    SELECT GETTESTVALUE FROM DUAL;and receive an error as follows
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at "GETTESTVALUE", line 6
    06502. 00000 - "PL/SQL: numeric or value error%s"However, if were to modify the function to the following
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION
    FUNCTION GETTESTVALUE
    RETURN TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE
    IS
    TEST_VALUE TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT TEST_COLUMN INTO TEST_VALUE FROM TEST_TABLE;
    RETURN TEST_VALUE;
    END;There is no error reported and the value NZ07100S is returned.
    Of course, when we modified the function to be
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION
    FUNCTION GETTESTVALUE
    RETURN TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE
    IS
    TEST_VALUE TEST_TABLE.TEST_COLUMN%TYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT CAST(MAX(TEST_COLUMN) AS CHAR(8))INTO TEST_VALUE FROM TEST_TABLE;
    RETURN TEST_VALUE;
    END;No errors are reported, and the value is returned
    Some of the guys in the main forums tried this out on Enterprise edition and did not encounter any issues. To faciliate their testing, I spooled the sqlsplus output and it is as follows

  • ORA-06502 when trying to create a web service reference

    Hi,
    I want to create a reference to mail a report from BI Publisher.
    Apparently the e-mail option is no longer available in the v2 webservices so I tried to create a web service reference to:
    .../xmlpserver/services/PublicReportService?wsdl
    I had no problems creating references to the v2 web services however I don't manage to create a reference for this WSDL.
    The last step gives me:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    Thanks for tips or advice.
    Other workarounds to email a report are welcome as well. I tried to use the v2 webservices runReport & scheduleReport before but they don't seem to support this.
    Thanks!

    Okay, so email is available in the v2 webservices I found out. (despite stated in many blogpost it is not)
    --- ScheduleService
    If you're going to use it to send emails you need to create your webservice manually. Otherwise it will not work as the scheduleReport also can print, fax or save your report to webdav and you will need to remove these elements from you soapenveloppe to get it to work.
    This is not possible with the services created using the WSDL wizard.

  • Error ORA-03113 when execute procedure via OEM

    Hi All,
    I got error messages
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
    when execute procedure via Oracle Enterprise Manager
    Who do you know what 's the problem and how can I resolves ?
    Thanks,
    Mcka

    Solution Description:
    =====================
    The ORA-3113 error is a general error reported by Oracle client tools,
    which signifies that they cannot communicate with the oracle shadow
    process. As it is such a general error more information must be collected
    to help determine what has happened.
    This short article describes what information to collect for an
    ORA-3113 error when the Oracle server is on a Unix platform.
    General Issues:
    ===============
    1) Is it only one tool that encounters the error or
    do you get an ORA-3113 from any tool doing a similar operation?
    If the problem reproduces in SQL*Plus, use this in all tests
    below.
    2) Check if the problem is just restricted to:
    [ ] One particular UNIX user,
    [ ] Any UNIX user
    or [ ] Any UNIX user EXCEPT as the Oracle user.
    3) Check if the problem is just restricted to:
    [ ] One particular ORACLE logon
    or [ ] Any ORACLE logon that has access to the
    relevant tables.
    4) If you have a client-server configuration does this occur from:
    [ ] Any client
    [ ] Just one particular client
    or [ ] Just one group of clients ?
    If so what do these clients have in common ?
    Eg: Software release .
    5) Do you have a second server or database version where the
    same operation works correctly?

OUT variable is of same type as the table column(using %type), column size is varchar2(4000). This procedure is called from another procedure(p2) and sends out the result to Java Page to display the results at front-end.
    Problem is when application runs and p1 is called I get the following error message,
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    Length/size of the character string queried from table is _1747_ that is within the limit of 4000 chars. If I limit the output to just 500 using substr, I don't get any error but adding a single character startes throwing error. OUT variable in both p1 and p2 are declared as table.column%type and error comes from p1 only as confirmed by the error log.
    When I call p1 or p2 from a declare block, I don't get any error.
    This has really confused me and I am not able to find any reason for this difference in behaviour.
    Request to help me in understanding what could be the issue here.
    Oracle version used is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit
    -Thanks in Advance.

  • Problem with ORA-06502 when exp/imp between two identical versions

    Hi
    I have two identical systems, one system that I develop on and
    the test system. The two systems have the same version of the
    Portal. When I export and then import the application from the
    systems I get a error message on the test system.
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number
    conversion error (WWV-11230)
    This error does not appear on the developing system.
    The application I have is a form on a table, and I have some
    buttons with PL/SQL handels on them. I tried to remove this code
    and export with no luck.
    Please help.
    The system:
    Windows NT
    Oracle Portal 3.0.8.9.8
    Thanks
    Jvrgen Swensen

    Could you pls confirm : Have you exported & Imported the shared
    components used by that form?
    If you are not too worried about the templates/fonts then try
    this:
    Click on "Edit" link against that form and click "OK".
    Thanx,
    Chetan.

  • Proxy error when downloading report (IR) in csv format

    I'm getting the error below when downloading IR report in csv format. I'm getting that whenever the records is more than 108,000. Is there a limit in records to download? Is there a resolution.
    I am using apex 4.1, EXCEL 2010.
    Thanks,
    Pinky

    Since it is a text file it should have no limits within reason..
    See if you can recreate issue on Oracle's hosted site..
    Simple test, build a standard report on a table that has 101,000 rows and try downloading and then build a IR report on same table..
    Thank you,

    the error code is : ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small ???!!!!!!
    Anyone can help me ?
    Thks in advance

    Post the section of code that is causing problem along with statements before and after the section as well.
    For now, I can take a guess that you are trying to assign this entire statement as a string to a character variable. If so, then that variable length definition is too small to hold this entire string. In PL/SQL you can define VARCHAR2 to a maximum of 32767.

  • Printing and downloading report via BUTTONs

    Hi,
    I want to be able to allow my users to download a report in PDF format using a button... or... be able to print the report using another button... I know these are built in features in interactive report but want to do the same using a button...
    please advice how to do it...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Interactive report uses the page request to download report, for example if your page request if CSV it will download report as CSV file, if its PDF it will download as PDF file.
    1. Click on create button, select a region and click next
    2. Accept default and click next
    3. Enter the name of the button, select button type and in the action select "Redirect to URL without submitting page " then click next
    4. Accept default and click next
    5. Select display position (usually I pick right of interactive report search bar) and click next
    6. Select target as Page in this application (default selected)
    7. Enter "&APP_PAGE_ID." in the page text box , in the Request use CSV for csv download, PDF for pdf download.
    8. Click on create buttonRun the page and you should able to download the IR report using button. Thanks.
