  • TNS error ORA-12154 : can connect to one server but not to another.

    Hello,
I have a Forms 6.0 application running on a Solaris box. It connects
fine to an Oracle 9.0 server but fails with ORA-12154 when trying to
connect to Oracle 10g running on a different server.
'sqlplus' can connect fine to both servers .
'tnsping'result is succesful from the Solaris client to both servers.
Configuration details are as follows. (IP Addresses have been
sanitised. I've included the client side listener and also entries for
the 'local' Oracle 8i server running on the Solaris 'client' although
I think some of this may be not relevant):

As you can see, I have tried adding an alias for the default domain
name suffix '.qonnectis.com' in the tnsnames.ora files on the solaris
client and on the new 10g server.
Just to add to the fun, the 'new' server running Ora 10g CANNOT connect
to the old server running Ora 9:
    sqlplus user/pass@nn_qq3
    sqlplus user/pass@nn_qq3.qonnectis.com both fail.
While the old 9.0 server CAN connect to the new 10g one:
    sqlplus user/[email protected] succeeds.
Sorry this is such a mess. TBH I find this whole area extremely
    confusing.
All suggestions welcome. Unfortunately I am away on holiday next week
but will follow up any leads when I get back.
    thanks!

  • ORA-12154 error connecting CR 2008 to Oracle XE on Windows 7

I have Crystal 2008 SP3 running on Windows 7. I have Oracle Database Express Edition installed and running. Using the DirectData CR Oracle ODBC Driver 5.1 I test connect fine to Oracle but when I try to use Database Expert to connect to my Oracle database I fail to connect.
The error I get is Failed to open the connection. Details: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. [Database Vendor Code: 12154].  I've spent a lot of time here trolling for information. My TNSnames.ora file appears to be correctly formatted but I'm not sure if it has the correct information in it. I checked my Path and that may be the problem but I am not technical enough to know what to put there so that this 32-bit driver is the first in the list. It's the driver in Windows/SysWOW64. I just need to be able to run a SQL statement in Oracle and create RPTs in CR - not be an OS Expert. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
This should work, XE is not lsited in our supported platforms PDF but it's still 10.2 which is supported.
There are more tools you can use to debug, third party Connection tests and ProcessMonitor as well as our database logging dll but if you are running out of time I suggest you purchase a single case and a Rep will contact you directly to resolve the problem.
To get a single support case got to:
    http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=38156200
And No, the ORA file should be in the that folder.
    Thanks again

  • ORA-12154 while installing Oracle 10g on windows 7

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g express edition on my machine (core 2 duo 2.93) running on Windows 7.
The installation moves on perfectly for the 1st step and while running the 2nd step (Net configuration Assistant), it gives the ORA-12154 error.
The contents of my configuration files at this point are as follows:
    Listener.ora
    =============
    SID_LIST_ORCL =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = F:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    =============
    And that of tnsnames.ora is:
    =============
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
    =============
After some googling around, I have found and installed the Microsoft Loopback adapter too (since my LAN is DHCP enabled) and also tried to turn on the firewall on my machine to check if it is not a problem with the port 1521 being blocked by the firewall.
However, even after all that I still get the error "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified." while running the Net configuration Assistant and/or running SQL Plus to connect to the SID - ORCL.
I can only see one service running in my services by the name : OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerORCL
Any suggestions or advice on the error would be much welcome.
Is it anything related to Windows 7 ? Because I have managed to install using the same installer on another machine which runs Windows XP and everything seems fine there.
    Thanking you all in anticipation.

Hmmm.. but then I'd have expected some installation error. I have read around that people have managed to install oracle on windows 7.
The error displayed seems to be indicating that there is some configuration or permissions issue.Check that the user has permission to write in the ORACLE_HOME\network\admin - UAC might be blocking that.
Install with software only, and run netca & dbca separately to create the database after the s/w install. (That's the way it is done in production anyway, so get used to it.)
But yes - you still may have problems. Those who did fake it out on Windows 7 usually understand what to do. If you are smart enough to actually do it, my hat is off to you.

  • ORA-12154 in new oracle client installation (ASP applications)

    Hello,
I've got a test server with an Oracle 10.2 client that has some web services running on it. They connect using the oracle client to a database in another server. Untill this morning they were working great but then I has some trouble and I had to reinstall the Oracle client again. Now I have installed once any Web Service tries to open a connection to my oracle database I get an ORA-12154.
I've tried to run (in my test server) a simple console application that opens a connection to the same database with the same connectionstring and queries a table and it works great, so I think that there might be some problem with asp.net applications or something like that....
Does somebody know how can I solve that??
    Thanks in advance!

after you reinstall Oracle client, run netca to configure your tnsnames again. Or if you have copy of old tnsnames.ora file put under new client ORACLE_HOME/network/admin

  • ORA-12154 when connects. Instant client installed.

Hi. I am installed instant client 10.2 and cannot connect to database : give error ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. I am using Linux. I am set TNS_ADMIN and put into this directory file tnsnames.ora with all necessary instances, but have not no one result.

Add the following line to sqlnet.ora in the directory to which TNS_ADMIN points:
    TRACLE_LEVEL_CLIENT = SUPPORT
Then try again and examine the *.trc file created. This should tell you what's wrong.

  • ORA-12154 when try to connect oracle 9i with forms9i

    Hi everybody,
I install oracle database 9i AS in:c:\ora9ias folder, with ora9ias database name.
and I install oracle developer suite in c:\ora9ids, and both installation were successfull.
in oracle with sql+, I connect with system/manager@ora9ias it's working,
but when I work with forms, I have this error mesage:
ORA-12154, can't resolve symbolique adresse TNS?
    Thanks for your help...
    best regards

In Oracle 9i Release 2 onwards, passwords for SYS and SYSTEM are entered by you when you install Oracle 9i R2.
In order to connect to SQL Plus via Host String, e.g. ora9i
    User name: sys
Password: YOUR_NEW_PASSWORD (this is he actual password that you entered when you installed Oracle 9i)
    Host String: ora9i as sys

  • I can't connect Oracle 7.3.2.1.0 by sqlplus anymore!

    Hi!
I have an Oracle 7.3.2 for Irix installed before.
When I install Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux without Pro*C,
I can connect Oracle 7.3.2 by "sqlplus scott/tiger@remote".
But if I include Pro*C installed, I can't connect Oracle
7.3.2 by the same command anymore.
What should I do to solve this problem?
I can compile Pro*C program but get the same response :
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
password is right for sure, server just doesn't accept.
    null

My problem is a little different from your. I have both
Oracle 7.3.2 and 8.0.4 on our Sun workstation. I can connect
to Oracle 8.0.4 using both sqlplus and embeded SQL. However,
I could not connect to Oracle 7.3.2 by sqlplus or embeded SQL.
Error Message: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host
    or object does not exist
It's is a bug or it's not support to connect to old Oracle
Version??? If anyone have a solution please let me know.

  • Error to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0

    hello,
I try to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0.
I created an ODBC connection to function in the administration tools of data sources but I can not connect once in designer.
I tried using the driver directly oracle designer 10 but I have the same error that is this:
DBD: ORA-12154: TNS: connection identifier specified could not be resolved
someone there had the same concerns?
    cordially

    Hi,
so it looks like that your TNSNAMES.ORA file isn`t properly configured. Thats why you can connect with the IDT to your Oracle Database.
Your DBA`s should sent you the correct TNSNAMES.ORA file or the entry for your DB prior. After the tnsping works, you will be able to use the IDT properly.

I've configed my database to run MTS.
My db is 8.1.5 with x86 Unix SunOS 5.7

I have run into the same problem using oracle 8.1.6.1 with redhat 6.2..
I have found out that only when I specify host ip in the mts_dispatchers the mts will work correctly..(specifying host domain name is no use)
Here is a sample of the configuration, hope that helps..
    mts_dispatchers = "(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=192.168.0.1))(dispatchers=4)"

  • Connecting oracle on the network

hi all, ı have searched my problem, but ı could not find it, my question is that how ı can connect oracle database which lies on another computer on the network from my computer, thanks for your responses

    Hi,
In your TNSNAMES.ora file in your local machine add following info
    REMOTE_SID =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = XX.XX.XX.XXX)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = remote_sid)
Replace remote_sid with your SID of the database that lies on another computer as well as Host=Your remote ip address or hostname.
    Regards
    Jafar

  • I want to connect oracle 10g developer run time forms to oractle data base

    Hey,
Would any body want to tell me, how come i can connect oracle dev 10g from its forms with oracle 10g data bases
    I am waiting
    bye

Try asking this on the Oracle Forms forum:
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=19
In any case you need to set-up a sqlnet connection from your client to your server. Use the Network Configuration Utility that comes with the Oracle Forms installation.
