I had tough time installing Oracle on openSuse 10.2 machine 64bit architecture..
as it required libaio package installed... I installed "libaio" package...
Somebody over internet also asked me to install "oracle-libaio" .. i installed it too...
the it worked sucessfully at the command prompt .. but the the browser url http://localhost:8088/apex ..still resulted nothing..
neway i deployed my webapllication at jboss server... Installed the ojdbc.jar driver in place...
Configured it properly .. as i have already deveolped and running application on my another local OpenSuse machine..
But now when i try to login .. The following exception is returned :

please write these lines into the file Listener.ora (path: $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin\) for static registration
SID_LIST_LISTENER=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC=
(GLOBAL_DBNAME=<your global db name>)
(SID_NAME=<your db SID>)
(ORACLE_HOME=<path of ur oracle home>)
but before doing this pls try out these steps
1) shutdown the database
2) shutdown the listener
3) startup the database
4) startup the listener

  • ORA-12505 on Oracle Database 10g Express Edition: TNS:listene

    Hi all,
    I am aware that there has been several posts about this subject but i still cant seem to be able to resolve my problem.
    I am new to this but I did read through all information I could find and nothing helps.
    I am trying to connect to oracle database from sqldeveloper and i am getting that error.
    I am just following the tutorials on the net and they simply say to connect using SID: orcl but that does not seem to work for me.
    Can someone please explain to me how to find out how to change the paths (i suspect the problem lies there) so i can connect?
    Natalia

    Oracle XE SID is ... XE and not orcl.
    Did you also check:
    $ oerr ora 12505
    12505, 00000, "TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor"
    // *Cause:  The listener received a request to establish a connection to a
    // database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener
    // specified a SID for an instance (usually a database instance) that either
    // has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been
    // statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition
    // such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance
    // has registered with the listener.
    // *Action:
    //  - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    //  - Check which instances are currently known by the listener by executing:
    //    lsnrctl services <listener name>
    //  - Check that the SID parameter in the connect descriptor specifies
    //    an instance known by the listener.
    //  - Check for an event in the listener.log file.

  • ORA-12505 on Oracle Database 10g Express Edition: TNS:listener

    In Developer3, trying to connect to Oracle Database 10g Express Edition give me:
    Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12505 TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor

    Edited by: 873444 on Jul 22, 2011 3:23 AM

    SID given in connect descriptorSo what is the SID you're asking for ... the client in use may not know the XE tnsalias, especially if the client is not running in the same ORACLE_HOME as the database.
    The client needs to know how to get to the database- a `tnsping xe` reveals the path to the current ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora file for your environment but that may not be the same ORACLE_HOME used by "developer 3".

  • ORA-12505 error with oracle 11.2.0.2 RAC Grid

    Hi,
    We have just installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 with oracle clusterware. Every thing went well during the installation, How ever after install we can not connect to the RAC instance from clients, through jdbc OR oracle sql developer.
    We get following error:
    ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
    After the installation we created service (myrac) through OEM Cluster Managed Database Services tab. and We are using service name as following:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@orap-cluster.mydomain.com:1521:myrac
    Here below is Service TNS string:
    myrac = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = orap-cluster.mydomain.com)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = YES)(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = myrac)))
    Any help..??
    Cheers

    HI,
    to clarify:
    if you try with
    <SERVER>:<PORT>:<SID> you are accessing the server with a database SID, whereas
    <SERVER>:<PORT>/<SERVICE> will access a service.
    The SCAN Listener only know of services, and not of database SIDs.
    This is the reason you should always create separate services for your RAC databases, since only they are registered. If you connect via. a service the listener will forward you to (one of) the corresponding instances servicing the service.
    Database SIDs are only known to the local listener on the node (not to the SCAN listener). And SIDs actually should not be used anymore.
    However if you still need to access the SID you can use the virtual hostname of the server resp. the VIP address of the server in the connection and this will work:
    <VIP>:<PORT>:<SID>
    Note the SID of a RAC database is either myrac1 or myrac_1 (depending on administrator or policy managed database).
    I still would recommend using services and not SIDs.
    Furthermore the SCAN can only be resolved correctly by 11.2 clients.
    Any pre 11.2 client should use an address_list containing the SCAN VIPs:
    PRE112 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (LOAD_BALANCE=ON)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = pre112)
    If a application server does not understand / then try using the TNSNAMES entry directly:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE=ON)(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = pre112)))
    Hope that helps

    Experts
    I am SAP developer.
    I am trying to connecting remote server through webDynpro ( SAP programming Tool.) through JDBC. I can directly get connected to Oracle server through SQL plus.
    My code to establish connection is
    conn =DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@132.132.48.4:1521:orclahd.adaniahd.com","scott", "tiger");
    and i am getting exception.

    your database is not registered with the listener.
    you need to go to the server and check the status of the listener to see if the database service is registered. If not you need to do it manually.

    For #5, not Windows, ConfigMgr 2012 R2. Anything before ConfigMgr 2012 R2 is not supported for the 8.1 ADK.
    For the permissions, what accounts are you setting this for. In general, if the share is on the same server, Everyone Full or Read on the Share and System Full or Read on the NTFS should work.
    For the error message, it looks like you are trying to import an OS Image and not an OS Install Package. OS images use a WIM file and OS Install Packages use the entire set of source files from the media. For OS images, you must thus explicitly point it
    to a specific WIM file.

  • ORA-12505 - AIX - ProC/C++ - [AIX environment not properly set to NLS?]

    I DO need some help here!
    I have a C++ program accessing an Oracle 8.0.5 database ( which is set up for american_america.weiso8859p1 as the default language PLUS one more being: brazilian portuguese_brazil.weiso8859p1.
    When I log to the server which hosts the executable and try to run the application, I get the error ORA-12505 as soon as I try to connect to the database, but the error message can't be displayed, and instead, my exit routine displays: " Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12505 "
    If, alternatively, I log to another server THEN issues a telnet to the the server which hosts the executable and try to run the application, I get the programm to run nicely.
    The settings of the environment variables ORA_NLS33 and NLS_LANGUAGE have been coded inside the C++ program (among first things in main) but it seems these settings have no effect in solving the problem.
    The server which hosts the application has an AIX 4.3.3.0 operating system.
    The server from which I issue the telnet command has an AIX 4.2.1.0 operating system.
    What are the things that must be set in AIX in order to correctly access the Oracle database? Where can I get this type of information?
    I do apreciate any clues to solve this problem of mine.
    Thanks!

    Sounds like this is a configuration problem:
    ORA-12505: TNS: listener could not resolve SID given in connect descriptor
    Cause: The SID in the CONNECT_DATA was not found in the listener's tables. This error will be returned if the database instance has not registered with the listener; the instance may need to be started.
    Action: Check to make sure that the SID specified is correct. The SIDs that are currently registered with the listener can be obtained by typing "LSNRCTL SERVICES <listener name>". These SIDs correspond to SID_NAMEs in TNSNAMES.ORA, or DB_NAMES in the initialization file.

    When I try to look data in Administration tool I can, but when loging in in Anayltics and try to look requests I am getting error

    How to resolve this?
    Thanks

    Admintool and Answers might use different ORACLE_HOMEs.
    Do you have an Oracle db client installed on the same machine?
    In 11g Obiee brings its own Oracle client, so you might have two on your box.
    if so, just check that both tnsnames.ora have the sid you are using.

  • ORA-12505, TNS:listener and ORA-12514: TNS:listener

    All,
    Connecting to the database through the SQL Developer is giving me the error "ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor"
    Database version : Oracle 10g XE
    O/S : Windows 7, 32 bit
    I have restarted my machine and tried but no luck. Tried from sqlplus also and the error was
    ERROR:
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
    descriptor"
    Please provide me the steps to check and resolve this issue.
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Thanks

    Here is what I have in my tnsnames.ora file

  • Failed to sqlplus into ASM  with the notorious ORA-12505 error

    Hi guys,
    I have a 2-node RAC testing environment and i have been having trouble trying to LOCALLY sqlplus into the ASM instance.
    If I do "sqlplus sys/xxxxx@asm1", it just throws "ORA-12505:TNS: listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor".
    If I do "sqlplus / as SYSASM", it says "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges".
    Can' figure out where I did wrong so really appreciate some help here (maybe in the listener file, i should give the GRID home for one of the ORACLE_HOME parameters)?

    )with regard to ASM instance, it is NEVER "online"
    There is never any requirement to connect to ASM instance via SQL*Net.
    Log onto DB Server directly & just start ASM instance

    12505, 00000, "TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor"
    // *Cause:  The listener received a request to establish a connection to a
    // database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener
    // specified a SID for an instance (usually a database instance) that either
    // has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been
    // statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition
    // such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance
    // has registered with the listener.
    // *Action:
    //  - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    //  - Check which instances are currently known by the listener by executing:
    //    lsnrctl services <listener name>
    //  - Check that the SID parameter in the connect descriptor specifies
    //    an instance known by the listener.
    //  - Check for an event in the listener.log file.
