ORA-12514 :TNS: ------

Question

HI guys
I have shutdown my database immidiate to do archiving and when i startup data base in in "mount" stage i get following message. Can any body help me why i am getting this message
ORA-12514: TNS:Listner does not currently kknow of service requested in connect descriptor
2ndly can any body tell me default location of spfile and pfile with their default name (in oracle 10G). and how can i know that whether i am using Pfile or spfile
my database name is ORCL and sid name is also same

I am posting an example of working init.ora file (pfile). Once you know pfile is correct and you can open your database with it. YOu can create spfile from it (server parameter file) and spfile is of binary format.
You can use this as a reference and compare againsts your pfile (init.ora) file. You might have to change path and memory parameter according to your system resources but rest will work
