ORA - 12514 ----- Urgent

I am trying to access Oracle using the third party tool(Datastage-Datawarehousing tool). The Datastage server doesn't identify the Oracle instance running on the same machine.
When I try to access oracle it gives me the error ora - 12514. Both the tool and Oracle are running in the Sun Solaris Enviromnent. Please help me in this regard.
Regards,
Badhri.

Hi guys,
I've solved the problem: It was in the TNSNAMES. The service_name was incorrect. I changed it and it worked.

  • URGENT: ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found;

Hi, I have a big problem:
I have a PC (PC1) with an Oracle 9.2.0.5 database.
I have other PC (client=PC2) with Oracle forms and reports runtime installed.
I try to execute my .fmx from PC2 and everything was ok.
After that, I installed again in another server (PC3) the Oracle database, and when I tried to connect from my client (PC2) to the new database, it appears the error:
    ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found; Product=RDBMS80; Facility=ORA
Why is giving this error? May be the PC3 needs an ORACLE_HOME environment variable or similar?
I've seen the following in relation with oracle_home:
In the PC server (PC3) the ora_home variable in regedit (it doesn't exists as windows environment variable) is e:\oracle\ora92
It's different from oracle_home in PC2 (Pc client) , in which is: c:\orant
    Is it important?
Is this error possible because of the TNSNAMES configuration?
Please help me, is very urgent for me.
    Thanks a lot

  • ORA-12514 : Kindly Advice. Urgent

    Hi All,
    I have two databases. DB_A and DB_B.
DB_A has a synonym say SYN_A. The base table for the SYN_A is a view that is present in DB_B database. The synonym SYN_A is created using DB Link DBLink_B.WORLD.
The problem is when i am firing the below mentioned query from backend (logging into UNIX and then sqlplus '/ as sysdba' ) i am gettingt IRA-12514 error
    SQL> select count(*) fromSYN_A;
    select count(*) from SYN_A                     *
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect
descriptorNo operation is possible on the synonyms. Even a simple select sysdate from dual@DBLink_B.world is gving the same error.
The DB Link and Synonyms are valid from dba_objects.
But when i am connecting to my PL/SQL developer, all the above queries are running fine.
    DB_A is 9.2.0.6.0 and DB_B is 10.2.0.3.0
Why such a thing is happening. Am i missing something.
    Kindly help me out.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    1) DDL for the Synonym is as below

    DB_LINK
    PUBLIC                         SYN_A

  • 10g Installation and Error : ORA-12514 : Listerner cant recog. service requ

    Hi,
I installed 10g, and trying to start sql plus. I entered
    username: orcl
    password: my own password
host string: name of my computer
I am getting the error: ORA-12514: TNS: Listener does not currently know of service orequested in connect descriptor.
I started the services and tried again but same problem.
I also tried system and sysman as username, w/o a password and included my computer name, but still facing the same problem.
Any thing else I should do besides uninstalling and reinstalling ?
    Thanks

Where did the user name orcl come from? It certainly is not going to be there unless you logged in with a DBA account and created it: Did you?
So back to basics ... what version of Oracle did you install? 10g is a marketing label not a version number. It is likely something between 10.1.0.2 and 10.2.0.4.
Second how did you install the database? With the Oracle Universal Installer or with a script? Were there any error messages?
Have you checked the installation log?
Has it ever worked in the past and is now broken or has it never worked?
Is the listener running? How did you check?
When you say "I started the service" you are in what operating system and you started what service and how?
My guess, and it is only a wild guess given how little information you provided, is that there is an issue in your listener.ora and/or tnsnames.ora files: Post them along with the value you are entering as "Host" when you try to log in.
Again just a guess ... the user name should be SYSTEM, the password whatever you entered, and the Host "orcl."

I'm fine with TWO_TASK not set if its not necessary.

Edit: You actually solved my problem :-)
Seem like it was no good idea to set TWO_TASK or ORACLE_SID before trying to install ORACLE.
I unset both variables purged the package reinstalled it and everything is up and running.
    Thank You

  • Connecting to Oracle XE via regular 10g client - ORA-12514

I have had the 10g client installled on my computer for a while, for developing against our company Oracle databases. I have now installed the XE database locally on my computer so I can do some local development - according to the information I've been able to find the two should live side-by-side without problem.
I can still connect to our company databases just fine, but I can't get a connection to the local XE database at all.
I've added this line to tnsnames.ora:
    XE = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = XE)))
The error I'm getting connecting is:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
I did mean duplicates even between different tnsnames.ora files.
As I understand, if you XE works, you should not need do anything for that tnsnames.ora.
Just find how entry should be for client.
BTW, what tool you will use for XE? Do you need client?
E.g. if you use SQL Developer, you do not need client or set anything to tnsnames.ora
    Regards,
    Jari

BTW, it might good to search Instant Client forums if you find help there.
If you do not find answer, then it might good idea post question there.
At least for me this is more client question than XE.
    Instant Client
But as I understand it should not be any problem use 10g client for XE.
I just have never done that =)

I changed the /etc/hosts to refelct the true address and it worked!!

  • Report ORA-12514 once restart Oracle 10.2 database

    OS: Windows2003 Standard Edition SP1
    Oralce 10.2.0.1.0 for Micorsoft Windows(32bit)
I install Oracle 10.2 on Windows 2003, during installation, reports a waring at Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks:
Checking Network Configuration requirements ...Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
I try to modify the Network config from assign IP address automatically to specify static IP address. then, Oralce can be installed successfully, and create database, connect to database... all work well.
But once I do restart(stop/start) the database server, then the database can not be connected and report error ORA-12514. but I do not do any changes, only restart the database server.
I also try to configure LoopBack metioned in the warning message, but it does not work as well.
I try to install Oracle10.2 on other clean machines with different OS, like Windows XP sp2, I got the same result.
Also, I doubt database server does not really start when restarting it, although no error or warning is reported. because of I watch the system memory usage, I do not see any increase of memory when I start the database server, it's not normal.
I setup a Oralce10.1 server on the same machine, it has not this problem.
Could anyone help me to solve it?
    Thanks verfy much.

  • Problem in accessing second database instance on same host (ORA-12514)

    Hi,
I had a database ICMDB installed on my machine. After that i created a second database instance (Service name: BI_APPS) using DBCA on the same machine. Using NETCA i also created a new listener OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListenerBI_APPS_LISTENER on port 1522 on my machine. Then i configured this listener to listen for connections to service BI_APPS by adding the following to my tnsnames.ora:
    BI_APPS_LISTENER =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.109)(PORT = 1522))
Then i changed the port in my tns entry for BI_APPS to 1522 as follows:
    BI_APPS =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.109)(PORT = 1522))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = BI_APPS)
I then restarted the following services:
    OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    OracleServiceBIAPPS
    OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListenerBI_APPS_LISTENER
After this, when i try to access my first DB ICMDB via toad, the connection is successful. However, when i try to access the service BI_APPS i get the following error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
What am i doing wrong? Here is the content of my files:

    Hi Ed,
I understand your point, however whenever i have tried to use the same listener to access my second instance, this is the error i have always received:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
That does not indicate you need a second listener.
And, after deleting the listener.ora file ,if i try the the command lsnrctl start, i get the error:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Hence i restored the files. What do i do?
I've never experienced a 12560 trying to start a listener.  I'll need to see if I can create a test system on Windows and try to recreate.  Will be a good subject for my blog, that has been too long with no new content.
Since this is windows, I'd first check that the Windows service for the listenr is started.
Whatever, multiple listeners is NOT the solution.

I created Stby DB with the minimum parameters required, so that I configure BROKER and see it magic, but badly stuck in this situation here. I have read many docs related to this..but can not fix it unfortunately.
Please guide me from your own experience as note ids, blogs are not helping me here...

    Hi,
    Your listener.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.domain whereas tnsnames.ora file has SERVICE_NAME = dg_db2.
Check in your database for exact service name and reflect the same in both the files.
    SQL> sho parameter service_names
Restart the listener and try connecting.
