  • ORA 12170 : Connection timeout error : Help needed

    Hi,
The scenario is as follows: I have Oracle 11g R2 installed on a Windows Server 2008 (32-bit) server. The database SID is 'PGMS'. I am accessing (or want to access remotely) the Oracle database from the Visual Studio 2008 development environment (client environment) running on a Windows XP (SP3) platform. I have already installed the ODAC (Ver. 11.2.0.2.1) package for the Visual Studio environment.
I have created a sample Windows Forms application that uses the Oracle data access components. The sample schema HR in the Oracle database has already been unlocked. This is the schema that I am using in the application.
The issue that I am facing is that when I am adding the data connection in the Visual Studio environment; 'Test Connection' functionality returns the following error: ORA-12170 ... Connection timed out.
I have checked the TNSNAMES.ORA file, and everything is as is mentioned in the Oracle documentation. It is as follows:
    PGMS=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.161)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PGMS)
Kindly request the community to help me out in overcoming the error and in making the connection successfully. We have a System administrator but not a database administrator. The Oracle installation has been done by me.
    Thanks,
    Renj

  • Get-adgroupmember gives operation timeout error

    Hi experts,
i am tring to get the user names from few groups in AD. But it displays me an eror for few groups like
    ERROR :-

       $_.samaccountname | get-aduser -properties * | Ft name, emailaddress | out-file .\ABC.csv -enc utf8 -append
ABC is group name. What i need to do ?

Doesn't matter. The user principal is very easy to get.  It is the embedded Get-AdUser that is time consuming because it mkes Get-AdGroupMember wait on every member.  If any member is in another domain and the network is slow it can cause a timeout.
Yes= Using Get-ADGroup would be faster but it, too, returns an array of strings and NOT a comma delimited list.
Under most circumstances the difference is trivial.  If the domains are remote then this is an issue.  One more reason to not place users in a group when remote. Place them in a group and place the group in the group.  Overall performance
for everything is better and more reliable.  That is why it is designed that way.  In NT4 this was not as easy so NT4 was prone to this kind of failure. Too often Admins just add users to local groups when they are remote. They then complain about
performance. It can very badly impact logon performance.
Notice that this is a collection (array):
    PS C:\scripts> (Get-AdGroup testgrp -prop members).members.GetType()
    IsPublic IsSerial Name BaseType
    True False ADPropertyValueCollection System.Collections.CollectionBase
For this property only it is a collection of strings. It can be a collection of any "ValueType"
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

  • ViClose session not called after Read operation Timeout in an IVI COM driver

    Hi everybody
I have a small VI sample that is initializaing an IVI COM driver for an OPM instrument, set some parameters into the instrument then is doing a single Read power measurement. My Read operation receives a single parameter called MaxTimeout that user could change depending on his own interest. Inside the Read function I change temporarily the VISA query timeout to user timeout but at the end of Read operation the original VISA session timeout is reverted to its original value before Read operation was called. If the Read operation timeout is long enough for the Read operation to complete ( 100 ms or more) the VI is doing its job and when finished the viClose is called twice for DefaultHandler and for OpenHandler.
If the Read operation timeout value decrease ( 50 ms) then Read operation could not be completed and a Read Operation Timeout error is thrown from inside this method. This error is then propagated trough Error path until the VI end in a Simple Error Handler. Now on my VI I close all open references to my driver interfaces but I don't know why VISA itself is not calling viClose on the DefaultHandler and OpenHandler as in the case when was no VI error. I could see all these diferences in my NI Spy window and I could post this if that could be of any help. Bear with me cause I am more a C, C++, VB programmer and much less of a LabVIEW programmer. BTW the Error Handling from LabVIEW looks a a little weird and the only sure thing is that I wired in Error In and Error Out path in all my VI calls. What kind of error handling should I perform on the Read method in order for VISA to close properly both OpenHandlers even if there is an error in my VI?
    Thansk
    sorinvalea

So viClose is not called by VISA after an error takes place in a VI that is calling some operations on an IVI COM driver.
I discovered that all VI sessions opened trough VI that encountered a timeout error in Read operation and that were not properly closed after VI completed are in fact viClose by the LabView itself when I am closing LabVIEW application.
So these left over open vi sessions are kept aside by LabVIEW until it closes itself and then clean them one by one by calling viClose on them....

    Thx.

Yes, the XP firewall is running. During the Oracle instalation it poped up twice, but I selected 'Unblock'. I can't turn it off because it is running using the domain settings, but I can add exceptions (programs or ports). Port 1521, tnsping or sqlplus are not blocked and there is an option 'Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program' witch is checked.

  • DB Connect error: ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out

    Hi,
I am trying to connect to a external oracle database from SAP.
I entered the TNS entry of the external DB in the TNSNAMES.ORA and configured it in the table DBCON.
But i am not able to connect to the external database. It is throwing the error
    "sql error     12.535 ; occured:ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out"
But i was able to connect the database from my system through TNSPING and also from TOAD.
Do i need to configure any parameter in LISTENER.ORA in SAP or in the external database?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
The note which you specified was with BI objects. But i am trying to connect from SAP R/3 to a remote Oracle database.
I got connected to the  remote Oracle database for an hour and it got disconnected by saying "TNS operation timed out".
The CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in LISTERER.ORA of the remote Oracle database  is missing.
Will this may be the cause for the "TNS operation timed out".

    Hi.

description => 'ACL SRVAP AUTOSR PURPOSES',
    principal => 'username',

    COMMIT;
    END;
    But still no luck.Please assist
    Thanks
    Archana

According to the exception, the error is not ACL related, but network related.
Basic test. Connect to the Oracle server using a console (e.g. ssh or telnet into the server). On that server, test the network connectivity to the web server. E.g.
telnet srvab.us.oracle.com 80If this fails, then so will PL/SQL code in that Oracle server.

  • ORA-12535 TNS:operation timed out from SQLPlus and Enterprise Manager Conso

I keep getting a ORA-12535 TNS:operation timed out error, when I try to start my Database.
I know its a timeout error, but I would like to know what is timing out and why. All I want is the database its self to run to allow me to connect to it via SQLPlus and JDBC.
Is there any information on what the following services do and which ones I need to have running to use the database.
    Oracle OLAP 9.0.101
    Oracle OLAP Agent
    Oracle oraHome90Agent
    Oracle oraHome90ClientCache
    Oracle OraHome90PagingServer
    OracleOra90SNMPPeerEncapsulator
    OracleOra90SNMPPeerMasterAgent
    OracleOra90STNSListener
    Thanks for any help Tony

Either reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be 0, which means wait indefinitely, or reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be some higher value. Or, if the timeout is unacceptably long, turn on tracing for further information.

  • UTL_HTTP & ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out

    Hi ,
I have written the following piece of code to validate if the Web Service is accessible using UTL_HTTP. If I schedule this procedure from Unix (as a cron job) OR try the modified version through Oracle Portal
I get intermittent Timeout errors (Exception - -12535-ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out).
However if I schedule the same package as a dbms_job it always seems to work fine.
Does anyone have any idea as to what/where the problem could be?

  • ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out on a win2000 Oracle instance

    Hi,
    i have a Oracle 8.1.5 instance on a WIN2000 PC.
I can connect me to this database with sqlplus
as long i stay on the PC (means i started the sqlplus
    on the same machine).
When i try to connect from an other (unix-)system
i get after a while (ca. 90 sec.) the error:
    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
tnsping works fine (answer comes back in one second)
There are no firewalls or other "strange" things between
the database and the failing client (on an other PC,
also win2000, Oracle 8.1.5 everything works fine).
Below you see the log with debug of the listener.
I have also a trace on level SUPPORT but this is more
than 1000 lines for just 1 or 2 TNSPINGs and one SQLPLUS
connect. Due to this volume i decided not to attach it to
    this initial mail.
Does any one have some advice or experiences ?
    Please advice.

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
why not go with the bulk standard tnsnames entry as follows:-
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

I don't think the qualified MyDB.10gXE name is adding any value and may well confuse things.
Although setting it for my environment does work

OK - when I use your entry pasted directly from the above, with my server name, I get the following problem:-

  • Listener overloaded or High load .?..ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out

We have an OLTP db server with oracle 11g(11.1.0.7) installed on Linux 64bit OS.
Client : Dotnet application running on win2003 server
oracle client version on webServer 9.2.0.4
    Work load on system is
    Avg Executions Per Sec 1273.35
    Avg Executions Per Txn 42.1
Avg Response Time Per Txn (secs) .13
Avg User Transaction Per Sec 30.4
Avg Concurrent Sessions on server 350 processes 600
    memory_target 13gb
we are experiencing "ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out" while users access the application from webserver.per day around 200 errors.
To get rid of the above error we set SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=0 in server side sqlnet.ora and
in Listener.ora inbound_connect_timeout=120 but of no use, even we observed for few days with inbound_connect_timeout=0.
There is Only one listener configured on server.
The similar set up with lesser workload working fine without any errors.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out

    Hello,
I am trying my first JDBC connection using a code sample called SingleConnection.
The code functions properly until an attempt to connect to the database (the main goal to the exercise, I know). I receive a java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out error. The ConnectString is all good, and several different values have been tried. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hello,
My problem is solved. It was a firewall issue.
    Cheers,
    Jeff
