Ora-12545 strange error

Dear friends
I have one strange error in Oracle 8.1.7 , Windows NT server. We have 4 databases in a same box. All are working fine till yesterday. Today morning I am facing this problem. I can not connect to one database out of four from any client. Getting error "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Other 3 databases in the same server I can connect from client.
In the server I can connect all four databases without any problem.
I am using tnsping <servicename> from the client, is getting OK.
I Observed the tnsnames.ora in the client , nothing found strange. Because all client machines have this problem.
Pleas advise?

I did both your suggestions
First of all all clients are working properly till yesterday without any problem. Today I faced this problem in all clients around 10 clients same time. I feel it is may be Host machine database /network setting problem. How we can trace?
When I restart Listner using lsnrctl command in server , then I can connect from client using SQLplus but a while only. When I Establish another connection in the same client or from any other client, it won't allow me. Also , connected session getting error.
When I issue lsnrctl status command in server it is displaying like this. Maxnew is the one that have problem.

DBCA calls svrmgrl.exe in order to make a startup nomount of the new database and svrmgrl.exe fails during the hostname resolution.
Try to give ipaddress rather than hostname in the tnsnames.ora file.

  • Strange errors ORA-02068 ORA-00600

    Hi,
I have a strange error in my mapping, that I have never heard before.
In the source schema, I have a table that I check, that gives me a list of PK in order to know which lines I have to take in the other table of the schema.
At the end of the mapping, I have to UPDATE the table in order not to take the lines when the mapping is executed the next day : there is a field which is a flag that I have to update from 0 to 1.
But the mapping never manage to UPDATE all the table, it gives me these errors :
    ORA-00600 : internal error code, arguments : : [kdoorp-1], [15], [0], [], [], [], [], []
    ORA-02068 : following severe error from [DB_LINK_NAME]
I made a mapping which only update the table and it doesn't work anymore. What is strange is that it stops the first time after 1003 rows updated, the second time 2007, the third 4014, etc... ? I don't understand ???!!
    Can someone help me ?
    Thanks,

  • Re:ORA-12545 error (host target)

Can anyone shed some light on this... I have just installed red hat linux 9 and have been trying install Oracle 9.2 (i have followed many instructions from sites and have done all the export cmds etc...). But i keep getting a ORA-12545 error when trying to connect (no target host found)i have looked at the listener.ora file and cant seem to see anything wrong. What else can i do to solve my problem??? Ian.

There are several issues that you have to check out.
    ORA-12545: TNS:name lookup failure
Cause: The listener on the remote node cannot be contacted.
    Action: Perform these steps:
Verify that the ADDRESS in the tnsnames.ora file and the listener.ora file is correct.
Verify that the listener on the remote node has been started. Enter:
    lsnrctl
    LSNRCTL> STATUS [listener_name]
listener_name is the name of the listener defined in the listener.ora file. It is not necessary to identify the listener if you are using the default listener, named LISTENER.
If the output indicates the listener is not running, try starting it with the command:
    LSNRCTL> START [listener_name]
    First than nothing :
1.- Can you get connection locally in the Server ?

What version of gcc are you using?
    Check out this link: http://www.redhat.com/archives/taroon-list/2004-June/msg00030.html
All 8i and 9i releases are built with 2.9x versions of gcc, so you might have to downgrade gcc in order to get 8i running.

    Hi,
I am a tech at a failing company. Unfortuneatly some users still need ADI installed and working with very limited resources to troubleshoot oracle. I am getting the error - ( Could not connect to the database - ora-12545: tns:name lookup failure )when the user tries to log on to ADI. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it. We are on Windows NT on an NT network. Oracle 8.05 client installed and ADI 6.0.
    Thanks, Mary

Copy the tnsname.ora file from Oracle Database serve onto the client PC.
    Path: %Oracle_home%\net80\admin\
Send me a mail if there is any other issues

  • ORA-12545 error in rac, local&remote listener

    Hi,
We have an 10g Release 2 RAC system. We usually take
ORA-12545 Connect failed because target host or object does not exist tips
error message. I think tnsnames.ora file is correct, I can achieve to send tnsping message. And I think the host file is alaso correct, I am successful to send ping message to the ip in the host file. And we are noticed that cpu utilization of one RAC node is very bad. Do you that these two problem can be related? I searched the error message on internet. I think this link is interesting:
    http://www.ardentperf.com/2007/04/02/local_listener-and-ora-12545/
But I do not fully understand the article. Because I do not know the local&remote listeners.
    Can you help me?

12545, 00000, "Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
// *Cause: The address specified is not valid, or the program being
// connected to does not exist.
// *Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the
// most likely incorrect parameter is the node name.  Ensure that the
// executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.)
// If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the
// host name to a numeric IP address and try again. While logged onto the target system issue the following commands:
    lsnrctl status
    lsnrctl service
CUT commands & results and PASTE back here
Generate another error & then CUT the last 20 - 30 records from listener.log & PASTE back here

  • ORA - 12545 ERROR

I have a problem connecting to the host.
I am able to ping successfully to the server.
When I execute tnsping from the client machine, the operation runs successfully.

    Hi
Just thought I'd tell the list that I had to add
    disable_oob = on
to the client sqlnet.ora and it worked like a charm.
    Try this
