ORA-12546 on Windows 2003

Hi,
I installed Oracle 10g on Windows 2003.
When it tried to create the database, it gave me the error ORA-12546 TNS:Permission Denied .
Did anybody face the same problem on windows 2003 SP1?
Any help is really appreciated.
Regards,
Ardalan Houshmand

I am receiving the same error. I get to in install phase where the Database Cinfoguration Assistant tries to run and I get ora-12546. I am running windows 2003 64 bit, but am installing oracle as a 32 bit since I do not have Itanium and oracle does not have a release for 64 bit xeon. Any suggestion would really help, this new server is replacing an outdated one.

  • ORA-12546 error during installation of 9.2.0.1 on Windows 2003 Server

I have encountered an error whilst installing oracle 9.2.0.1 on a Windows 2003 Server. The error appears in the final part of the installation, when the Database Configuration Assistant is performing some work - it reaches the part where it creates the database instance - here we get the "ORA-12546: TNS Permission denied" error - this part of the installation is marked as failed - i can retry it as many times as i want but the same thing happens. If i finish the installation (even though the error has occurred) the oracle installation doesn't really work . I can't open the Database Configuration Assistant and don't really have a sysdba user. However all the services seem to be running fine (even the tns listener)
I was wondering whether it could be a problem that would be solved with the 9.2.0.3 patch - but this patch assumes that you have performed a proper working installation of 9.2.0.1, so I'm not quite convinced that the problem is related to the oracle version.
I've read other threads where the problem has been read/write privileges on some files and folders, but this shouldn't be an issue when I'm logged onto the machine as a local administrator.
The install.log files don't really provide any extra information.

I have exactly the same problem installing Oracle on a Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise Edition. I have Intel Xeon processors (EM64T).
I tried to install Oracle for 64 bits, but it didn't work. Now I'm trying to install 32 bits version of Oracle, and I get the same error and the same problem, mentioned above.
Can anyone help us, I can't figure out a way to solve it. I don't know if Oracle for 32 bits is not compatible with that version of Windows, even if it is supposed to be.
    Thanks!!!!

  • Windows 2003 R2 installation failing with ORA-12154

Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise default installation, no Windows Updates at all
Pentium 4, 2 gb ram, 127 gb hard drive
    In a workgroup using DHCP
Installed Microsoft Loopback Adapter as per installation docs (which I read)
Default installation of Oracle 10g R2 Enterprise, which installs a starter database.
During the step Creating and starting Oracle instance with Clone database creation in progress at 46%, an error dialog appears:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
The same problem occured when using a static IP address. About a year ago I followed the same steps with 2003 Enterprise (not the R2 version) and was successful. I also tried installing on XP Pro Service Pack 2 and failed at the same point.
At this point I am completely unable to install Oracle 10g R2 on Windows using the default options. I even tried just installing Oracle without the starter database and then use DBCA to create a database. It failed to create a database.

    some more information
I’ve just restarted the server with its full quota of 16GB of RAM and selected both boot.ini switches (/PAE and /3GB) at server startup. I then amended the dbblock_lru_latches parameter from 128 to 64. Before I even started the database I tried running ‘ipconfig /all’ at the command prompt with the following result:
    D:\Oracle>ipconfig /all
    Windows IP Configuration
An internal error occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
is it windows causing these issues?

  • Met ora-07445 on oracle 10.2.0.4 of Windows 2003

    Hello,
I was running an PL/SQL application using PL/SQL Developer and after a while, the application will be disconnected from the database with error 03113: end-of-file on communication channel. I checked the alert.log file of the database, at that time an ora-07445 error happened:
    Errors in file c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\dbtest1\udump\dbtest1_ora_4820.trc:
    ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [ACCESS_VIOLATION] [unable_to_trans_pc] [PC:0x0] [ADDR:0x0] [UNABLE_TO_READ] []
My environment is oracle 10.2.0.4 on Microsoft Windows 2003(32bit).
My friends helped me search on metalink about this error and didn't find a similiar workaround. Can anybody take a look at this error or give some hint?
I want to upload the trace file but didn't find the entry to upload a file. Please let me know if I need to paste all the content of the trace file. it is too long.
    Thank you very much.
    Tony

I hope that I can log a SR because the metalink account is in our dba hands and till now, almost one month passed we got no answer form him.tough situation - Mystery Problem that you can't deal with directly, having to work through the powers that be second-hand to get support. Been there, done that :(
You probably haven't heard from the DBA because the DBA hasn't heard anything back from MOS - a pure guess on my part, but according to my experience in logging SRs quite possible.
You have some options - not good ones but they do exist. The ideas below are different variations based on the idea that if you can figure out where the program is having trouble you might be able to work around the problem.
There is no trace in PL/SQL as such, but there is a debugger. I'm not sure if you are using All-around Automations's PL/SQL developer or Oracle's SQL*Developer but both support the debugger. You can compile stored code in debug mode and use a GUI interface in both products (TOAD too, for that matter) to set stopping points to monitor your progress. There is information about the debugger in the Oracle documentation and elsewhere on-line. IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THE DEBUGGER USE A GUI INTERFACE TO SET IT UP AND RUN IT - the command-line interface via PL/SQL APIs in SQL*PLUS is nearly impossible to use effectively.
Alternately and more easily you can put your own markers in the code and execute it. This can take the form of lines like DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Got to line 999') or more elegantly using dbms_application_info to set a column value in V$SESSION to put a message there (procedure name, line number, whatever you want within reason). You'll only see DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE data after the program(s) finish or crash so the dbms_application_info method might be a little bit more useful
    Good Luck!

    HI
    THnaks for reply,
But i did not change any parameter at allMaybe you didn't knowingly change any parameters, but you are running this on Windows. To paraphrase Forest Gump, "My momma always said Windows is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get." My team and I just finished spending three hours of troubleshooting an application when "we didn't change anything" -- except that a Windows update was pushed to the app server ....
If Oracle says "target host does not exist", I'd take Oracle's word for it.
So how do you go about chasing down ora-12541? Start with your names resolution - usually tnsnames. What is listed for the HOST= parameter of the entry in question? Is it listed as a server name or ip address? Can you ping it?
    From the client machine please
    1) show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file
    2) open a command prompt (cmd.exe)
    3) give the command "set | sort"
    4) give the command "tnsping <mysid>", where "<mysid>" is the tnsnames entry used to identify the database.
Copy all of the above - commands AND responses, and paste it back here.
Kindly check and help urgentlyWe can't check. After all it's your system. All we can do is suggest what you should check.
And there is no "urgent" here. This is a forum of peer volunteers.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For them to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2.
You don't have a support contract? Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.

Is it ok if we apply 8.1.7.4 patch on production server, move that backup on 64 bit server & directly migrate it to 10g 64bit. (While doing the testing we have applied the 8.1.7.4 patch on the 8.1.7.0 database on 32 bit & application worked fine with no problem)As you have indicated that there were problems getting the 8i installation to work on a 64 bit server, I would again advise to upgrade to 10g on the same server and then migrate to 64 bit edition on 64 bit server.

I assume you installed Oracle as "Administrator" user. If so, make sure you are running the job from the same user. Optionally open "services.msc" and go to the "ORCL Service" or whatever it may and check "Log on" tab. It should be "logon as" value should be "Local system". If you are using a domain then give credentials accordingly. Make sure you are part of "DBA" group.
The ORA-12546 TNS:permission denied points to "Insufficient permissions to trace/log files" - check the trace/log destination is writable and requisite permissions are given.
