Hi,
I tried to create a Oracle Database using Oracle installer.
I got the error ORA-12560

A TNSNAMES.ORA was not created even if Oracle Net Config was successful (see above)

Hi,
Make sure that you point to the right path in ORACLE_HOME directory system variable.
If you already have one ORACLE COMPONENET RUNNING (SAY 10g SOA etc). Then we need to remove the path in the variable ORACLE_HOME and point to new oracle home path.
I had the similar issue it worked me. I hope it will work for you too as well.

siegwiinGood morning Siegwin,
First, you should probably post to this forum: [Database - General|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=61]
However, the error you are getting is a TNS error. You should check the following information in your TNSNAMES.ORA on your system and on the Database Server.
<li>Name of the database
<li>Port Number of the database as defined in the TNSNAMES - compare against the port number that the database is actually listening on
<li>The SID defined in the TNSNAMES file.
On the Database Server:
<li>Check that there is a listener running and that it is listening for your database.

Getting ORA-32700 while creating database
I am getting following error when creating the database :
ORA-32700 error occurred in DIAG Group Service
The error description is as follows :
Cause: An unexpected error occurred while performing a DIAG Group Service operation.
Action: Verify that the DIAG process is still active. Also, check the Oracle DIAG trace files for errors.
The setup is as follows :
Database : Oracle 9i Rel 2.
OS : IBM AIX 4.3.3
We are trying to create the database from sqlplus/dbca. It seems that in the database creation process it is throwing the error while it is trying to create the control files.
listener.ora :
LSNR_TSEDMDB2 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
TNSNAMES.ORA
LISTENER_TSEDMDB2 =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
We have IBM HACMP Cluster setup on 3 machines. This machine (prcsmbk1) on which I am getting the error while creating the database is part of that HACMP cluster. While installing the Oracle database software also it gave me a list of the 3 machines which are in HACMP cluster. We are not planning to setup RAC, but still it seems like while creating the database control files Oracle is trying to perform some group service operation.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Thanks a lot for all your responses. We found the issue. The issue was that when we installed 9i we selected Enterprise option which installed RAC also. And after that when we were trying to create database Oracle was thinking that we are trying to create database in RAC env. and most likely it was trying to create/sync the control files on all the machines in the cluster.
The sequence of events were as below :
1. We have 8i installed on this machine
2. We installed 9i (9.2.0.1.0) using the same ORACLE_BASE but different ORACLE_HOME. We didn't select "Custom Install". We selected "Enterprise install" option
3. We installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and then 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0)
4. While creating the database (manually & through DBCA) we were getting ORA-32700
5. We tried to uninstall (using OUI 2.2.0.18.0) 9i (including the patch) completely but it never succeeded. We noticed that when we started uninstall it did show progress for about 20 minutes and after that it didn't show any progress. It was not taking any CPU cycles and It was not writing to the log file either. Basically we were never able to cleanly uninstall 9i. We tried almost 2 to 3 times.
6. Then we installed 9i using a new ORACLE_BASE and this time we selected "Custom Install" and we did not install RAC. This is successful
7. Then we installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using this new installer but it never succeeded. Then we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using the old installer version (2.2.0.11.0) and it was also successful.
8. Then we tried to create database using DBCA and it was successful and then we dropped the database which was created using DBCA and then we created it manually through SQLPLUS and this was fine too.
So basically what we learned from this exercise is that if we are installing 9i on a machine which is part of a cluster and if we don't plan to setup RAC then we shouldn't install RAC and we should do a custom install. I wish there was a option in create database stmt to tell Oracle that though we are creating database on a machine which is part of a cluster environment but we don't intend to setup RAC.
And other thing which is still a mystery is that why does the uninstall never completes successfully. One question on this : We were using the installer version 2.2.0.18.0 to uninstall the 9i software. Do we need to use the older version (2.2.0.11.0) of the OUI? -

RabiHello;
Generally for the connection to work you need to add something like this to the listener.ora file :
(SID_DESC =
(global_dbname = STANDBY.hostname)
(ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2)
(sid_name = STANDBY)
)You should stop and start the listener on the Standby after adding this. Also your tnsnames.ora must be correct on both the primary and the Standby.
Also you need an INIT for the Standby side :
STANDBY.__db_cache_size=343932928
STANDBY.__java_pool_size=4194304
STANDBY.__large_pool_size=4194304

Keys to success
1. New Standby start NOMOUNT on new password file. ( On Oracle 11 you must copy and rename the file from Primary server )
2. Hard coded listener on new Standby server.
3. Correct tnsnames.ora files.
4. Correct duplicate command.

Oracle not available while creating RAC database
Hi,
I have got 2node Oracle 10gR2 RAC installed on solaris 10 and am using NFS for keeping clusterware and database files.
cluvfy with pre dbinst option ran successfully.
Now while creating RAC database through DBCA, I am getting Oracle not Available error message. No relevant message written in alert log.
Can you suggest me as to what to do to resolve the issue please.
Thanks in advance.Do you see any kind of logs under $OH/cfgtool*/dbca/..may be it will help with some pointers. If that doesn't give any useful information, try to startup nomount the instance using a sample init.ora file to see if reports anything in the alert log.
Thanks

APP-RG-09518: An error occurred while creating a database link
Hi All,
While creating a database link in Oracle EBS from one instance to another instance for transferring FSG reports
Go to Any GL Setup responsibility...Setup>System>Database links > Create new database link
Prior to the above...below steps should be done on the server.
1.grant create database link to <apps.user>; (on db server)
2.source tns entry should be in destination tns file and destination tns entry in source tns file. (check tnsping after entry)
3.*make sure destination tns entry of 8.0.6 oracle home should be in source tns file* (Because we are creating db link for the application)
4.Run the Program FSG Report.
Regards,
Harish Muramshetty.Hi,
I have solved the issue as below:
This error was started when I install a software which I have made myself and it uses sql server compact edition 3.5.
I saw when I manually replaced the sql related files from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5" with the files which my software setup had "version 3.5.5386.0" then the error started. And if copy back the latest version 3.5.8080.0
then it disappear. So use latest sql files in your software too.
My software was replacing the the latest files with older version.

ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error while creating new database
Hi,
I installed Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 1 (10.1.03) and created the default database it had which was emrep. Once Oracle Grid Control was installed I ran the install for Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.2).
Now when I try to create a database I get the following error: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
My assumption is because I seem to have 2 Oracle home's now because I installed the Grid Control??
My question is, have I done this backwards? Should I install Oracle 10g before installing the grid control? If thats not it, can someone point me in the right direction?
FYI: The server we're using is running Windows Server 2003.

Operating system Windows Server 2008

siegwiinAnd you also read this?
To install, use Oracle Database 11gR1 Release 1 (11.1.0.7.0) for Microsoft Windows 2008 Server. Do not install with the 11.1.0.6.0 version.
PS: To get better advice, don't post a marketing label like 11g only. post the full version you're trying to install.

While creating a RAC database using DBCA, DBCA gave the folling error -
"Virtual IP address is not configured for cluster node "pdb1". Run

I couldn't find vipca in oracle home.
So, i started vipca from crs home as a root user and i got the following error

Can any 1 help me out.Are the above error related to OS or something is wrong with the OS cluster / RAC. I tried creating single instance database on either of the server which are in cluster, no success.
