Ora-1555 during exports and imports. possible causes. ?

From my understanding : I know that this error will occur due to a undo retention being smaller sizer. or rather I should put it that increasing this parameter should help fix the issue.
Whats not clear is below :
Qn. Is it possible that ORA-1555 errors can occur during 'import' even if no other sessions are connected and performing any transaction/dmls ?
Qn. Also why does a ORA-1555 occur during a 'export' ? Is the same reasons ie. there could be possible DMLs occuring ?

Hello,
About your first question:
Qn. Is it possible that ORA-1555 errors can occur during 'import' even if no other sessions are connected and performing any transaction/dmls ?I've never got this error during import but, I always care to get enough place on the UNDO Tablespace.
With classical import you have a commit after each Table's import (by default) and a commit after each row's import if COMMIT=Y so as to use less space in the Rollback Segment.
With Datapump, I often decrease the undo_retention parameter before importing so as to use less space on the UNDO Tablespace.
About the second question:
Qn. Also why does a ORA-1555 occur during a 'export' ? Is the same reasons ie. there could be possible DMLs occuring ?To get a consistent image of the exported data with the classical export you may use the parameter CONSISTENT=Y. While you may use the FLASHBACK_TIME parameter with Datapump (so it means that the undo_retention should be large enough when exporting).
Both use the Undo entries, so I imagine that's possible to get some error (may be ORA-01555) if you don't have enough place on your UNDO Tablespace.
It's possible (thank to the Rollback Segments) to have concurrent DML on the database while exporting.
Anyway, from my point of view, while exporting or importing if you have enough space on your UNDO tablespace and a correct undo_retention setting (not too large when importing not too small when exporting) it should be fine.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

  • Export and import possible?

    Hello,
we need to delete a Groupwise user and recreate the same user account after deletion.
Is there a way to export this users mails before we delete the account and after we have deleted and recreate this user import the persons mail again to this newly created GW account?
    Thanks,

Okay thanks, sorry for being dumb :) but I'm not that familiar with the archiving.
Still some question, would be kind of you if you could help me out :)
We would only like to archive this users Inbox and Outbox, not Contacts and Calendar is this possible?
    Steps:
    Archive mails to local workstation
Then we simply delete this users GW account
Then we recreate a GW account for this user
After this we use the FID editor to change the old FID of the archive to the new FID?
Then we open GW client and unarchive everything, this will reimport this persons mail back up to the GW server so that these mails are available through Webaccess for example?
And after this everyone is happy, right :)
Btw, where do I find this magical FID editor :) ?

  • Is it possible to replace masters with versions without going through the process of exporting and importing?

Is it possible to overwrite the master files with the versions without having to go through the entire process of exporting and importing back the images?
    Thnx in advance

A small refinement if you shoot RAW. Remember, no RAW file can ever be edited or rewritten. Thus, in the old days, the flow was:
RAW>TIFF/PSD and you ended up with two large files. (This is why some folks used to delete the RAW Masters.)
With Aperture the flow is something like:
RAW+Version(s) Only the Version is only 30 KB. (There is, of course, additional overhead of Thumbs and Previews, but, depending on your settings, this is only a fraction of the size of a TIFF or PSD.)
You question goes right to the heart of the concept of a non-destructive workflow. With Aperture you always preserve your original Master file; the only things that are ever at risk are your edits (called Adjustments). Ironically, this is even more valuable if you shoot JPEG or TIFF as those files could be rewritten.)
Aperture goes to great lengths to give you the best of both worlds; you always have the Master to revert to and your "edits" take up very little disk space. And you don't have to waste time trying to sync folders of RAW, TIFF, and JPEG. Similarly, you never have to worry about resizing images, changing color spaces, or any number of other things that get locked into an image file when you use a destructive workflow.
Remember, Aperture will happily Export files in any format you may need. Export 'em, use 'em, delete 'em - your Masters are still safe in Aperture.

  • Is it possible to export and import the roles and users tables?

    Hi,
is there any possibility to export and import the role and user definitions?
We have a SAP MDM repository with a lot of roles and users and also with a lot of changes.
And now I'm searching for a fast and efficient way of managing the roles and users.
    Thanks and Regards, Melanie

    Hi Melanie,
There is no export/import functionality for roles and users.  The only way to manage these in an automated way would be to write a program that uses the Java or ABAP APIs.  Both APIs expose functionality to create, update and delete roles and users.
    Hope this helps,

  • Question regarding export and import of Hyperion Security during upgrade

    Hi Guys,
We are upgrading Essbase, Integration Services from 7x to 9x which are utilizing Hyperion Hub and we are going to follow the method of uninstalling 7x and reinstalling 9x components.
Now my question is, what is the best way of transferring security from 7x to 9x. I heard that Advanced Security Manager can be used to export and import back security. Or is there any
    other way of doing it??
Can someone please enlighten me on this.
    Thanks in advance

First let me say that any software that comes without a save button should be sold with a warning label.
    Why?
Question 1:  I have having an issue comprehending how to save a photo.  In my case  I select the photo, zoom in on the subject, export it to my desktop. The pciture on my desktop does not incorporate the change. Am I missing a step? What do I need to do to export it with this change? I actually watched a You Tube video on this and could not see what i was not doing.
You must have selected the wrong option in the Export dialog box. Under "File Settings", you need to select JPG and not "Original". Of course, you probably need to do some additional viewing of videos (or some reading) to learn that most people's workflow does not automatically include a "Save" or "Export" after editing the photo. It's not a necessary part of Lightroom's workflow, unless you need the photo for some non-Lightroom activity.
Question 2: I just installed Lightroom and am trying to import my 12k strong photo collection. The Import button pulls in about 2k and then cannot find anymore. The photos are stored in folders by date within a master folder. I am selecting the master folder. I can go in and import the sub-fodler individually. However i do not want to do that 200 times. There is no apparent way to go into the subfolder level and select more than one folder.
In the Import dialog box, on the left, under "Source", there is a checkbox that says "Include SubFolders". Make sure this is checked.
Seriously, you need to spend some time reading introductory material about LR because Lightroom does not work like any other photographic software you might have used in the past. You are handling it as if it was no different than standard photo editing software, and you are going to be frustrated if that is your mindset. See the videos at adobe.tv and read this: http://www.flickr.com/groups/adobe_lightroom/discuss/72157603590978170/

You know a page include a .jspx file,a page definition file and depend faces-config.xml,faces-config.oxd_faces and other I don't know information,so if i only put the first two file into cvs,but how can i get other information in the last two file? When I get the first two file and needed information in the other file, how can i merge these into new project and let jdeveloper "reconize it"?Applicaion is more complex,it not only depend its self java class, xml and many entity object and view object, how to handle the "export" and "import" process?Just like oracle form, only a fmb is enough, database object only need to "put into database","export" and "import" are very simple,so i need jdeveloper to supply these "import" and "export" function.I'm not familar with cvs, does it can know object dependency like application module?if it can,how to let jdev "reconize" imported in object?

  • Possible to convert Raw to JPEG without exporting and importing?

I have about 4,500 raw photos that I need to print on contact sheets (or print contact sheets to a PDF). I took the photos all in Raw format. Aperture, or my computer, is not powerful enough to process all of these photos onto contact sheets from the Print Images menu item; it takes several hours. I suspect I need to convert the files to a low-quality JPEG and print the contact sheets from those, which should be fine because the thumbnails are so small.
Here's the question: I know that I can create JPEGs from these raw files by exporting as JPEG and then reimporting them into Aperture, but this seems overly complicated. Is there a way I can select a number of photos within Aperture, and then select to convert them to JPEG of a particular quality, without leaving the application? Or are the multiple steps - exporting and importing - necessary?
Next time I'm shooting Raw+JPEG to avoid this, by the way...

So my workaround actually worked. I exported the photos as low-quality JPEGs, reimported them into a new project, and processed a Contact Sheet off of those. To process a Contact Sheet with the raw files would have taken Aperture about 12 hours or so. To process a Contact Sheet using the low-quality JPEGs took about 10 minutes. I'm glad this worked, though I wish there were a way in Aperture to create JPEGs from the raw files without leaving the application.

tablespace TESTTBS doesn't exist in the database where your are importing.
Either create tablespace in target database or
use show=y option while importing to get table structure and create manually in target database then import and give ignore=y.

Subject: How to perform FULL System Export/Imports
    Type: BULLETIN
    Status: PUBLISHED
    Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
    Creation Date: 18-APR-1994
    Last Revision Date: 30-AUG-2002
    Purpose
This article highlights some important points to consider when performing
a Full System Export and Import.
    Scope and Application
It is intended to assist users performing FULL System Exports and Imports.
A Full System Export and Import is a useful way to replicate or clean up
a database. Please note the following guidelines when performing a Full
    System Export and Import:
    1. When performing the import, ensure you are pointing at the correct
instance. Always check values for the SID and two task driver before
    proceeding.
*Note:   On Unix systems, just entering a sub-shell, such as using
C-shell, can change the database that the import would work
    against.
    2. When possible, it is advisable to take a physical copy of the
exported database and the database you intend to import into before
starting the import. This ensures any mistakes are reversible.
    3. NEVER run a FULL SYSTEM IMPORT on a machine that has more than one
database UNLESS you are 100% sure all tablespaces have been
pre-created. A full import will create any undefined tablespaces
using the same datafile names as the exported database. There are
situations where this is very dangerous:
-> If the datafiles belong to ANY other database, they will be
CORRUPTED. This is especially true if the exported database is
on the same machine, because its datafiles will be re-used by
the database you are importing into.
-> If the datafiles have names that clash with existing operating
    system files.
    4. When exporting, it is advisable to also produce a report showing
information you may need before / after the import:
-> List the tablespaces and datafiles
    -> List the rollback segments
-> List a count, by user, of each object type such as tables,
    indexes, etc.
This enables you to ensure that tablespaces have been pre-created
and to check the success of the import after it is complete.
    5. If you are creating a completely new database from an export, remember
to create an extra rollback segment in SYSTEM, and make this available
in the init.ora file before proceeding with the import.
    6. There are some versions of export that do not retain sequence numbers
correctly. It is advisable to select next_value for each sequence
after the export so that these can be checked after import.
Following these guidelines will help you to avoid major problems.

goal: How to copy an Oracle database to another machine
fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition
    fix:
Pre-requisites: The copy is between 2 machines, both have to be on the same OS
and have to have exactly the same database version installed.
    1. Make sure the database you want to copy was closed with a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE,
    SHUTDOWN NORMAL or SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL.
    2. Copy init.ora and control files to create instance and be able to go in
mount mode. Check the init.ora for the locations where the controlfiles have
to be, if those locations are not valid on the machine put the control files on
different places and adjust the init.ora accordingly.
3.a. Copy the datafiles (all of them).
    b. Copy the redo-logfiles (all of them).
4.a. (Unix only) Set the environment variables:
ORACLE_SID - set to the database name you wish to create
ORACLE_HOME - set to full pathname of the Oracle system home directory
PATH - needs to include $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    b. (NT/2000 only) Do 'set ORACLE_SID=<SID>'
Use oradim to create the service for the instance. For more information
on oradim please refer to (the part that refers to creating a new instance):
    Note:68720.1 Creating a new 7.3, 8.0, 8.1 Instance/Database
    5. Use servermanager (check the name to use for your version of oracle) or
sqlplus (version 9i and above) to startup the database in mount mode.
    Do
    CONNECT INTERNAL/<PASSWORD>
    then
    STARTUP MOUNT
Then do a rename of the copied datafiles if they are not in the same path as on
the other machine. For all the files that are in the result of the query:
    SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    do
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<filename>' to <
    newfullpath>\<filename>';
    6. Query the datadictionary for the old location of the redolog files using:
    SELECT MEMBER FROM V$LOGFILE;
If the new place is not the same as the old do:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<redologfilename>' to &
    lt;newfullpath>\<redologfilename>';
    7. Now open the database:
    ALTER DATBASE OPEN;

    What do you not understand?
You can duplicate the iPhoto library (command - D ) and delete everything except the project and its photos from the copy and move that
    Or
However the calendar takes very little space - it is simpy database entries - it is the photos in the calendar that take space - and for most people you would wnat to keep those photos in your library
you can use a photo in 50 calendars and it still is only one photo in your library - as I explained calenders do not exist as such - they are simply database entries telling iPhotop how to display the calendar - they take almost no space at all

  • SQL Developer 2.1: Problem exporting and importing unit tests

    Hi,
I have created several unit tests on functions that are within packages. I wanted to export these from one unit test repository into another repository on a different database. The export and import work fine, but when running the tests on the imported version, there are lots of ORA-06550 errors. When debugging this, the function name is missing in the call, i.e. it is attempting <SCHEMA>.<PACKAGE> (parameters) instead of <SCHEMA>.<PACKAGE>.<FUNCTION> (parameters).
Looking in the unit test repository itself, it appears that the OBJECT_CALL column in the UT_TEST table is null - if I populate this with the name of the function, then everything works fine. Therefore, this seems to be a bug with export and import, and it is not including this in the XML. The same problem happens whether I export a single unit test or a suite of tests. Can you please confirm whether this is a bug or whether I am doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Pierre.

  • Exporting and Importing of Schema

The Export and Import of Schema is not working consistently in SP4.
When I create a new repository from the schema, all the subtables get created. The main table is has only one field in it. It reads Category.
The other fields in the main table are missing and are not imported during the Import Schema operation.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?
If so, please let me know how you overcame this errorneous behaviour?

    Hi Adhappan
I have tried importing without success. The import is not consistent. The same schema creates different sets of tables & fields each time. Sometimes if you reimport some more tables which were not set up the first time gets selected for import.
I did a simple exercise to test the import / export functionality.
    1. I unarchived a repository from standard content provided by SAP
    2. I exported the schema
    3. I tried importing the schema without any modifications to schema
    4. The results were highly inconsistent.

Also, as in schema exports, cross-schema references are not exported
    Not sure what this means.

  • Shell Script For Export And Import Of Table Records

    Hello,
We have production and test instances and for constant testing we need to copy data from production to test or development environment.
At the moment what we do is manually doing export and import table records. At times this could be very tedious as we may need
to do this exercise a couple of times in a day.
Is it a good idea to do this exercise using shell script? If so how could I do this? If this is not a good idea what are the best alternatives?
    Any input is highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Ah I see, your company prefers stupidity over efficiency. It would be possible to do it in a controlled environment, wouldn't it? Also the test database would be allowed to select only.
So the non-allowance is just plain stupid.
To the second question: do you use hard-coded passwords in shell scripts?
Don't you think that poses a security risk?
Don't you think that is a bigger risk than a database link, properly set up?
    In my book it is!
