    I have checked with following scenarios:
    1. taking backup by setting the MAXSETSIZE parameter value greater than the maximum size of tablespace.
    2. taking compressed incremental backup with maxsetsize as unlimited.
    3. taking compressed incremental backup with maxpiecesize value as 20G/40G/80G/120G and maxsetsize as unlimited.
    Following is the RMAN backup script:
    RMAN> run
    2>  {
    3>  allocate channel c1 device type disk maxpiecesize 120G
    4>  format '/home/oracle/DBBACKUP/Oracle10g1/Full_Backup/DB_Backup_%Y%M%D%t%p';

    14> exit;
    Oracle database version is 10.2.0.1.
    The database is on Linux system and we are taking the RMAN backup on mounted Windows NTFS disk.
    The remaining space on NTFS system 1.7TB and the total database size 850GB. Used size by database is 500GB.
    Regards,
    Yogesh.

    Hi,
    First get the backup piece size its trying to allocate for file "/home/oracle/DBBACKUP/Oracle10g1/Full_Backup/DB_Backup_201401128366598241"
    = 12839996*16384
    = 210370494464/1024/1024/1024
    =195.9GB
    Its trying to allocate ~196GB for the file.
    1. Make sure the RMAN backup piece won’t exceed the O/S permitted filesize limit.
    2. But we can restrict the RMAN backup piece using the MAXPIECESIZE option.
    You restricted it to 120GB but actual requirement to allocate backup piece file is ~196GB.
    I think you need to change the MAXPIECESIZE and give it a try.
    Please update if it succeeded or failed.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gayu

  • Expdp fails with error ORA-39006: internal error writing on a windows share

    Hi!
    I need to get the following configuration working:
    Linux Server (CentOS 5 32 bits) with Oracle 11.2.0.1.0
    Windows Server 2003 SP2 32 bits.
    On the windows server I have created a user called oracle, who is member of oinstall and dba groups. (On Linux username, and group membership is the same).
    After that, I share a directory on D:\data_pump (I gave the full control of directory to oracle user). I mount the windows share on my linux as follows:
    mount -t cifs //winserver/data_pump /u04/oradata/data_pump -o user=oracle,password="pass",uid=oracle,gid=oinstall
    As the linux oracle user I'm capable of create and edit files, but:
    I connect to my database, create the directory called DATA_PUMP pointing to my cifs mount point, and, after that, I issue the following expdp sentence:
    expdp system DIRECTORY=DATA_PUMP DUMPFILE=test4.dmp LOGFILE=test4.log FULL=yes
    And I get the following error:

    The Database have a directory called DTPUMP that points to the windows machine (because this directory is mounted by cifs).

    Hi, I discover that the problem is when I try to do export Data Pump into a directory mounted, becuase if I change for other local directory the export Data Pump works fine.
    And the export.log show this errors when I try to do this into a directory mounted:

  • Oracle DB Can't Survive ZFS SA Controller Failover

    We are running two new Sparc T4-1 servers against a ZFS SA with two heads and a single DE2-24P disk shelf. It is configured with a single pool for all the storage. Our servers are clustered with VCS as an active/passive pair, so only one server accesses storage at a time. The active server runs the Oracle Enterprise DB version 12c, using dNFS to connect to the shares. Before deployment, we are testing out various failure scenarios, and I was disheartened to see that the Oracle DB doesn't handle a controller failover very well. Here's how I tested:
    My DBA kicked off a large DB import job to provide some load.
    I logged in to the secondary head, and issued "takeover" on the "cluster" page.
    My DBA monitored the DB alert log, and reported everything looking fine.
    When the primary head was back online, I logged in to it, and issued "takeover" on the "cluster" page.
    This time things didn't go so well. We logged the following:
    Errors in file /u04/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/aasc/aasc/trace/aasc_arc2_1296.trc:

    My DBA said that this was a very risky outcome, and that we certainly wouldn't want this to happen to a live production instance.
    I would have hoped that the second controller failover would have been invisible to the Oracle instance. What am I missing?
    Thanks.
    Don

    your FRA filed up.
    you are getting ORA-16038: log 15 sequence# 339 cannot be archived
    This means that there is no more space on FRA.
    You need to clean up the FRA. Here are some steps:
    SQL > alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size=18G;

    Dear All,
    My database is 11gR2 on Linux. During mid of expdp process I am getting this error:

    Any idea why this error is being raised and how to resolve it. On the same location and for the same database data pump is successful for another schema.
    Regards, Imran

    When you say the export works for another schema in the same database are you using the same syntax and would the export file sizes be near enough the same?
    Have you seen this metalink note?
    DataPump Export (EXPDP) Error ORA-39095 Dump File Space Has Been Exhausted [ID 559692.1]
    It could also possibly be a ulimit setting or filesystem space issue.

    The same process runs successfully in RHEL 4 U7.
    Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks

    The answer is yes to all the questions. The folder exists, it is writable, mounted. I also created files, deleted files and copied files between the Linux and the share.
    The problem started when we tried the data pump on RHEL 5.2. All was fine when it runs on a RHEL 4U7. From my research, smbfs was dropped from the 2.6 kernel and cifs was the replacment. On RHEL4 the share is mounted as smbfs and data pump have no problems. On RHEL 5 u 2 it is mounted as cifs - and the erros occure.

    The documentation currently shows this metric only for Database Instance. It there a way to use this for Clustered database.
    Anyone customized this for Clustered database ? Just wondering why its not there for clustered...Is it because it has to read multiple logs.. ?
