    ORA-27030 skgfwrt: sbtwrite2 returned error
    Cause
    sbtwrite2 returned an error. This happens while writing a backup file during a backup operation.
    Action
    This error is returned from the media management software which is linked with Oracle. There should be additional messages which explain the cause of the error. This error usually requires contacting the media management vendor.

  • FULL HOT Backup failing with a 6 on media management layer....

    Hi all,
    My thanks in advance for reading and any posts. Appologies for the long post, but wanted to make sure I got all information required into the post
    *******************The background*************************
    We are currently doing full hot backups of all production databases to tape. The database we use is RAC install (9.2.0.6.0) on Linux Redhat Enterprise 4 (database on OCFS). We use a seperate Solaris 8 box with 2 HP Ultium tape drives over a standard Cat5 line (100mb), we use Veritas Netbackup 5.1 as our media manager and we use an RMAN repositry on another box. Currently the backup is taking on average 17 hours to complete (something that I have been through with Oracle).
    We use the below rman script to do the full database backup.
    DATE=`date +%m%d%Y-%H%M%S`; export DATE
    USER=`id | cut -f2 -d"(" | cut -f1 -d")"`
    ORACLE_SID=ausl5; export ORACLE_SID
    ORACLE_USER=oracle; export ORACLE_USER
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/oracle/product/9.2.0 export ORACLE_HOME
    #delete log files older than 35 days
    find /var/adm/netbackup -name "auslive*" -mtime +35 -type f -exec rm {} \;
    #if [ "${USER}" = "root" ]
    #then
    # su - ${ORACLE_USER} "cd /rac/DBA/scripts/BACKUP/" #-c "${CMD_STRING}"
    # SUCCESS=$?
    #else
    # eval "/rac/DBA/scripts/BACKUP"
    # SUCCESS=$?
    #fi
    <<EOF su - oracle
    <<EOF1 /u01/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/rman msglog /var/adm/netbackup/AUSLIVE_b
    ackup.${DATE} append
    connect target sys/fowler@rman_ausl5
    connect catalog rman/rman@rman
    #change archivelog all validate;
    run {
    allocate channel ch1 type sbt_tape PARMS="BLKSIZE=1048576";
    #allocate channel ch2 type sbt_tape PARMS="BLKSIZE=1048576";
    #allocate channel ch3 type sbt_tape;
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO 'SBT_TAPE';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 1 DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' MAXPIECESIZE 100000m
    CONNECT = 'SYS/fowler@rman_ausl5';
    #CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' MAXPIECESIZE 100000m
    CONNECT = 'SYS/fowler@rman_ausl3';
    #CONFIGURE CHANNEL 3 DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' CONNECT = 'SYS/fowle
    r@rman_ausl4';
    change archivelog all validate;
    ###=============== Veritas Calls =========================
    send "NB_ORA_CLASS=ORAhot_AUSLIVE";
    #send "NB_ORA_CLIENT=sunatlsunx008";
    send "NB_ORA_CLIENT=sunatlsunx008";
    send "NB_ORA_SCHED=full";
    ###=====================main backup sections =============
    backup
    incremental level=0
    filesperset 15
    format "bk_%s_%p_%t"
    tag "hot_${ORACLE_SID}_${DATE}"
    database;
    sql "alter system archive log current";
    change archivelog all validate;
    backup
    filesperset 10
    format "ct_%s_%p_%t"
    current controlfile;
    sql "alter system archive log current";
    backup
    filesperset 150
    format "al_%s_%p_%t"
    archivelog all not backed up 2 times;
    change archivelog all validate;
    backup
    filesperset 50
    format "al_%s_%p_%t"
    archivelog until time 'SYSDATE-4' delete input;
    change archivelog all validate;
    release channel ch1;
    #release channel ch2;
    #release channel ch3;
    exit
    EOF1
    EOF
    Now due to the backup taking so long, we often have archive log backups that kick off. We generally get Restore Validates of this backup once a week.
    *********************************Problem*******************************
    Getting to the problem, the media manager generally completes the job with a 6, which in Veritas means that the backup failed to back up the requested files. I guess that this could be something to do with the media manager layer. But myself and my colleagues are of the opinion that this is something to do with the archive log backups running inbetween (hence the change archivelog all validate; appearing so many times in the script).
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks again for any posts / ideas,
    Mark.

    No I mean, it really tries to backup everything; control file, archive logs etc...
    Yeah I will admit its a bit strange, didn't code it myself. The idea was to do a bit a of house keeping at the same time with the archived redo logs (hence the file system stuff with the archived redo logs).
    You see we thought that this might be causing the issue.
    any ideas are welcomed,
    thanks again,
    Mark.

    ORA-19502: write error on file "0sj9beek_1_1", blockno 47105 (blocksize=512)
    I have inserted a new tape so there is lot of space available on the tape. Tape is attached to the same box, so its only 1 box with admin, media and client roles.
    The backup was working fine earlier on this box, this all started today itself and also the file system backup to tape using OSB is still working fine but not the RMAN backups, nobody changed anything in OSB or Database configurations.
    Is it time to log the TAR or is there something else which I can check??
    Daljit Singh

    Usually, that kind of error message indicates that the OSB user (with associated os privilege) does not have os privilege to access SCSI devices (ie tape devices). Believe it or not this is a common problem, especially, for the DBA user which os rights don't always include access to tape devices.
    OSB will always adhere to os privileges soooo if the os blocks a user, OSB will also block that user.

    sbttest will return 0 which indicates success or 1 which indicates an error has
    occurred. An error means it's not an Oracle problem.

  • RMAN not retrying on media manager errors

    Hi,

    ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:

    result in an immediate 'failover to previous backup'. The first error
    was caused by a transient network problem; I suspect the second was just
    bad luck as the file was being reclaimed by the TSM server when TDPO
    asked for it.
    Both these errors would have gone away if RMAN had tried again, so is
    there any way I can tell it to retry on error? If not, is there
    something else I could do to improve the situation?
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    I think I fixed your error in your other post. If you search these forums though, you will find that the media manager is not held in "HIGH REGARD" by users of every type of OS.

    Failed to process backup file <cntrl_0omr5dnb_1_1>By looking the very last error, your controlfile(cntrl_0omr5dnb_1_1) might be corrupted somehow which leads to a failure from media manager layer.
    Did you duplexed the controlfile? If you did, then you may try use the other one to do the restore.

  • Failed to load Media Management Library

    Hi,
    I have an AIX Server which has 5 instances already running Oracle 9i and 1 instance on Oracle 10G.
    We created a new database on this server and trying to run RMAN Backup. I get error message as follows:

    ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:

    I found that libobk.a file is not available under $ORACLE_HOME/lib. I created a link to this file. Still i get same error.
    Can any one advice what might be wrong? We are on Oracle 10.2.0.4.
    Thanks,

    Excellent. Thank you very much Anand. It worked with the recommendations made in that article.

  • FCP 5 Media Manager Nubie

    Just ventured into Media Manager for the first time....all of my video was captured as one clip (about 20 min's) at an offline resolution.....now that I made the sequence "offline", Discreet clips (the shots used) have not been created. I've tried subclips and it still wants to dig the whole tape.....does it remember the edit decisions? Is this because I captured as one clip initially?
    Ironically I did recapture the entire tape again, then got an error message stating that there were TC breaks throughout....therefore nothing was captured. There were not any TC breaks the first time.
    Is this my foray into Media Mgmt ****?
    I kind of need to redig this stuff....seems really easy....yet I can't do it?
    Any help out there?
    Confused.

    There's a bug in Media Manager in version FCP 5 which prevents you from media managing sequences where the media is already offline (deleted) ... this worked okay in FCP 4.5 and has apparently also been fixed in FCP 5.1
    try creating an EDL of your sequence, then open a new project and import that EDL. then highlight the sequence and batch capture ... should capture only the sequence media you need
    good luck
