I was trying to take RMAN backup from RHEL 5 for a database residing on fedora 13
but the NFS share is getting me the following error
ORA-19504: failed to create file "/backup/weekly/1qmp0vv3_1_1"
ORA-27054: NFS file system where the file is created or resides is not mounted with correct options

Otherwise, as already suggested, there're a numbers of notes in Metalink you should look at, it could really be a bug which may require an upgrade (10.2.0.1 is out of date anyway).

Had this issue since someone unplugged the san on Monday, and the servers were rebooted. Trying to do a duplpicate to Reporting Server from Production. The error returned, once the backupsets are being copied, is

I have edited fstab in the way that the Doc 781349.1 suggests. I have unmounted the mount point and remounted. Themount is set up this way:
/backup/PROD on /backup/PROD type nfs (rw,bg,hard,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,nfsvers=3,nointr,timeo=600,proto=tcp,addr=172.16.2.92)
I have checked fstab and it has write permissions for the oracle user with which I run the duplicate command.
I am able to browse, and create files on the /backup/PROD area.

It is my understanding that the NFS mouting options necessary to support Oracle vary based on the hardware/OS in use.
I have the following recored for a NetApp appliance
hard,bg,rw,vers=3,proto=tcp,intr,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,forcedirectio
and this for a Linux Client
rw,bg,hard,nointr,tcp,vers=3,timeo=300,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,actimeo=0
I suggest your review your platform specific documentationa and any record you have from the origonal set up.
You might just want to open a SR where you provide the specific hardware info and see if support can help after making another search for documents of interest.

ORA-01507: database not mounted when attempting to run emca

All,
I'm working on a renamed host attempting to drop and create the repository so that I can get the Oracle Enterprise Manager running on this host. In doing so, I was able to successfully drop the repository with the following command:
./emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos dropMy issue surfaces when i now try to create the repository as follows:
./emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create.

The above output was on my screen. When I check the emca logfile, I found the following:

The server and database have been restarted since the hostname change. I don't know it this will help shed any light, but I have also attempted to use dbca in an attempt to work around the emca issue, but it also gives me errors. Sometimes I get the error stating it cannot run in EXCLUSIVE mode. Other times I get a database not found error.
Could the problem be that I need to shutdown the database and start it in a particular mode prior to running emca?

Maxtor OneTouch III does not mount with Firewire

My Maxtor OneTouch III does not mount with Firewire.
I changed both cables, and ports on the drive to try with my 400 port on the MacBook Pro.
The drive will start up, the light will flash, remain steady, flash again. And then just as the Mac finishes booting, the light turns off and it does not mount.
It works just fine with a USB cable. But I bought it so it could be used as a firewire drive.
Other firewire drives work.

Has this external HDD ever worked while connected with FireWire? (In other words, did the drive just stop working via FireWire, or is this the first time you've tried to hook it up via FireWire?) Does it work over FireWire on another Mac?
If the answer to those questions is no, it's likely that the firewire ports on the external HDD are bad.

Ocfs2 mount with datavolume option fails on sles11

im using SLES 11 to build up Oracle 11g R2 RAC and using SuSE high avalability extension for ocfs2 packages. when trying to mount shared disks (ocfs2 formatted) with datavolume option (that is required for oracle ocr and voting disks) i'm facing the following error in kernel messages (dmesg):
OCFS2 1.5.0
(15281,0):ocfs2_parse_options:1213 ERROR: Unrecognized mount option "datavolume" or missing value
mounting with datavolume option is REQUIRED for ocr and voting disks , any ideas how to mount with this option?

Faced the same issue on the SLES 11 SP1 kernel "ocfs2_parse_options:1476 ERROR: Unrecognized mount option "datavolume" or missing value"..
The mount works just fine without the -o datavolume option...
mount -t ocfs2 /dev/sdxx /dir
When we add the needed -o datavolume option thats when we get the error...
mount -o datavolume,nointr -t ocfs2 /dev/sdxx /dir
Was this issue ever re-solved on the SLES 11 SP1... Any patches or info on where one would we need to move to get more info.

Iomega prestige does not mount with osx 10.7

Iomega prestige does not mount with osx 10.7. I can see the drive under 'about this mac' under storage USB but it does not mount on the desktop or in disk untilities. It does run, the light is on, and I can feel the disk spinning. I have tried PRAM and NVRAM with no luck. Any ideas?

Is the disk designed for 10.7.5, or maybe an older OSX? At this point we are both trouble shooting in the dark. Maybe you might want to return the the drive and get something that you know was built for your machine. This does not make sense to me. Maybe one of the mega dot guys on this site can chime in and offer some info. Sorry I could not offer any more info.

Hard drive will not mount with 10.4 but will mount with 10.3

I have a G4 powerbook running on 10.4.11. There is a western digital my book external drive hooked up to the USB port. I have two partitions on it. I tried to change the group settings to read write and got an error saying I did not have permission. Now the first partition will mount, but the second which I tried to change will not mount.
Disk utility sees the drive but it is grayed out. DiskWarrior sees the drive.
I dragged out my old G3 running 10.3.9 and plugged it in. Works great. The disk drive partition mounts and all of the files are there. What do I need to do to get 10.4.11 to mount the disk partition?
The external drive is a Western Digital My Book 250G divided equally into two partitions. The partitions are in Mac extended format.

I'm having pretty much the same problem... Have a WD 500 GB external attached via USB. I can't say for sure that the WD caused this (wasn't paying close enough attention), but I've noticed that my own MacBook HD is no longer mounted. I can't seem to find anyway to accomplish this either. I've booted from another volume to run Disk Utility (repair/verify). I rebooted with the MacBook startup drive and still, no HD. And NOW I can't see the bootable partition I made on the WD external. What?
I feel like the opposite of a nerd, cuz I'm just scratching my head at this point. Oh yeah, and running 10.4.11...

External drive not mounting with FW800

Hi,
I have a strange problem... I am trying to connect a SATA 3.5" drive (Seagate Barracuda) in a Vantec NexStar enclosure to a MacBook Pro (17"), and the drive will mount (either on the desktop or in Disk Utility) when connected with FW400 and with USB 2.0, but not with FW800 (the enclosure has all three). It will not mount on another 15" MacBook Pro either.
The strange thing is that I CAN connect the drive to my Mac Pro through FW800 with no problems, and also to both a 15" and a 17" PowerBook G4!
Does this sound like a driver problem? Like maybe the driver for the Vantec enclosure is not compatible with the MacBook Pro?
If anyone has a clue what the problem might be, let me know!

The problem turned out to be the FW 800 cables that came with the Vantec enclosure. For some reason they work with my Mac Pro, but not with either the 17" MacBook Pro or the 15" MacBook Pros I tried.

External Drive does not mount with Firewire but is ok with USB !

Since 10.4.4 my external drive is no more recognized using firewire, but it mounts perfectly with USB
Using FW request me to reinitialize the disk, but then, the apple disk utility it is unable to reformat!
then I unplug FW , sets USB and everything is ok!
I connected the drive to my old IMac G4 700 and evrything is fine, FW and USB, using the same drive, using the same cable. I did repeat the test many times it is always ok with the old mac and it never mounts with FW on my newer Ibook.
I did reset the openfirmware but that was not successfull!
Then I brought both iBook and the faulty Drive to a friend (he owns a powerbook and also an external drive)
we verified that my drive does not mount on his powerbook G4 12" using FW and is ok with USB.
Then he tried his external drive and was very surprised to find the same fault with his drive and his PB using FW. (as for me everything is ok with USB!)
We are both very puzzled, our drives did work well before, (before 10.4.4 , and 10.4.5 did not improve!)
and now, with firewire,disks never mounts..
In addition I tried with the same cable to alternatively start, using the target mode, the ibook and the imac. For each test they were both recognized as external drives as they should..
So to try to sum up
- Disk mount ok with USB (1 or 2)
- Disk is no more recoknized with FW (but it was before with the exact same hadrware)
- FW Cable seems to be ok as targuet mode works properly
has anybody any idee?

Hi Andre, I can't remember except to say that it was mounting fine with tiger and I was able to copy files to it for backup purposes.
I just hooked it up to a PC and windows tells me the drive is not formatted. That's not a good sign, and this was stupid: I think I had the drive hooked up to my Mac Pro during the upgrade.
Idiotic, granted. But this was an upgrade, not a full install and I maybe was trusting in Apple's ability not to do extraneous stuff during an install like windows does. Oh well...

SD Card not mounting with Yosemite, Disk Utility Yes, Finder No

Installed Yosemite about 2 weeks ago. So far things have been fine.
Just this morning tried reading a Nikon formatted Sony Class 10 (40MB/s) 16 GB SD card through the internal SD card reader - and nothing happened. After some poking around I noticed that the SD card is recognized by both the Disk Utility and the System Software, but not by Finder. The SD card will not mount.
It is not the SD card because it will mount on my buddies MBP running Mavericks (I had to upload the photos through Dropbox off his MBP).
I have already tried resetting both the PRAM and the SMC - it did not change anything. The system would still not mount the SD Card.
Here is the interesting thing. I have taken an old Class 4 8GB SD card which also wasn't being recognized and using Disk Utility, reformatted from MS DOS FAT to EXFat. Now Finder will in fact mount the drive. However, my Nikon or other devices will not accept an ExFAT formatted SD Card.

Using NFS Auto Mounts with File Event Generators (FEG)

Has anyone had experience with using WLI file event generators with auto mounted NFS filesystems? The problem that we are running into is that threads are staying blocked if there is an I/O request to a hard mounted NFS filesystem that does not return a response. We know we need to figure out why periodically we are not getting a response from the NFS server on some requests, but the thought is that at least with auto mounting, the request would time out and the thread would continue, process the I/O exception, and then go back into the pool. Thx.

OK, I have a work around that will do for now: disable DNFS, like this:
cd $GI_HOME/rdbms/lib
make -f ins_rdbms.mk dnfs_off
Re-start ASM, and then it works:

Here the solution:
Be careful, is very important to have a good policy zip file from Sun's web site
If the zip do not contain exactly
1 folder jce
All other files in the folder jce
That will not work !
For example, if you zip contain all file directly in the zip, without the jce folder, you sapinst will not start.
In fact, my jce zip folder was not like jce the zip folder on Sun's web site..

Catalyst won't install also floppy not mounted with 2008.04 new ISOs

For some reason or another the latest realeased Iso after (Don't Panic) the one that came out recently 2008.04 in May I cannot set up my floppy even though I identitfied it right and catalyst won't install I did pacman -Syu to install the files it required but it wouldn't complete the transaction due to some conflicting files. I'll show you what I mean.
This is my floppy line in fstab that was right on in the Don't Panic release:
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy vfat defaults,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
This is what happens under new realease

Greetings. While trying to upgrade I got the following error
$sudo pacman -Syuf

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: ipw3945: requires kernel26<=2.6.25-0
pl help.
Note: with lspci | grep Wireless I noted that my wireless is intel PRO 2200 chip set. and in the modules ipw2200 was there for loading. I could not figure out why ipw3945 hinters the upgrade problem. I removed ipw3945 with sudo pacman --remove ipw3945 and removed the ignorepkg in rc.conf. made a try with pacman -Syu for a system upgrade operation.
After a completion of about 360 MB of updates down load it failed to update the system. It is late night. I decided to give a try with yaourt. This time with yaourt -Syf sytem got updated.
