ORA-30936:

Question

I'm trying to populate an ID column with the value of the extract statement below. I'm able to do this with no problem on much smaller tables. The table I'm trying to work on now is much bigger. I also get the same error when querying the values and scrolling down too far in SQLDeveloper. I searched the forums and found "similar" posts but nothing that could get me to solve my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's an error related to schema validation.
I also get the same error when querying the values and scrolling down too far in SQLDeveloper.Really? Just by issuing a SELECT?
That probably means you have non-validated instance documents in the table.
You could first try to identify rows giving error and see if indeed the corresponding XML documents conform to the schema or not.
Are you using schema-based binary XML or Object-Relational storage?
Slightly off-topic :
Why use a FOR loop in this case? A single UPDATE should do just fine :
UPDATE series_test
SET naid = XMLCast(
             XMLQuery('/series/naId' passing xml_data returning content)
             as number
WHERE naid IS NULL;
