ORA-955 WHEN INSTALLING STATSPACK
I GOT THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE WHILE INSTALLING STATSPACK.
If this script is automatically called from spcreate (which is
the supported method), all STATSPACK segments will be created in
the PERFSTAT user's default tablespace.

have you run spdrop as user with sysdba privilleges?
What's the output of spdrop, does it return any error?
It is possible to drop objects manually, but what spdrop is doing is calling spdtab, which drop all perfstat objects and then drop user.
Can you run select object_name, object_type from dba_objects where owner='PERFSTAT'?

Tnsnames.ora error when installing oracle 9i developer suite
Hi,
Can anyone answer this question: I recently installed
oracle 9i and i'm getting a tnsnames.ora error when connecting to the database. Can anyone tell me what parameters to modify in the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files and what values to put in these parameters. Also,
i'm trying to create a net_service_name in oracle net manager(in configuration/management tools) and I can't figure out the service name for versions of Oracle 8i or later. Can someone tell me what this is because the program is asking for a service name. I need this info
for connecting to the database by username/password@net_service_name. Please respond soon.
Thank you.
T. PatelGo Net8Assistant. Follow the tree Net8Config ->Local -> Service Naming. In this node you will find all instances set (SIDs) and by clicking on them you will see in the right hand part of the screen if they were set or not in tnsnames.ora.
Another way: Usually the database service name is OracleServiceSID. Go Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and check out the Oracle Service name. Take the SID from there to tnsnames.ora.
You should have write down the name you was asked for while you were installing Oracle (or the default name that the installer put for you).
Hope this will help you

ORA-03113 when installing Oracle 8.1.7
Hi!
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 Std. Edition on Windows 2000. Whatever I try I always get an ORA-03113 when the wizard tried to initiallize the database. Seems that the TNSListener does something strange.
Who can help me?????
Thanks a lot!
Holger Bothmer
mailto:[email protected]Hi,
Please check up if any TNSListener (of older version , from previously installed RDBMS ) is already running in the system.
Statup->controlpanel->Services->%TNSListener%.
If so, please Stop the listener, while you install the oracle.
Else, While you install oracle, don't create starter database.First install Oracle, after that, create the DB using "Database configuration Assistant(DCA)", life will be easier!!

Error SP2-0640 when installing Statspack
Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 . Windows.
Trying to install statspack, keep getting the same error in spctab.lis
SP2-0640: Not connected
I have read this is a connect string issue. I have read I should run the spcreate.sql even as system instead of sys. I have unsuccessfully installed, then used the spdrop.sql to return.
I connect through SQL*Plus as this: sys/***@***** as sysdba - all on the one line.
I am able to create the perfstat user and allocate required tablespace and temp space, but when creating STATS$... tables the process fails with said error.
If I try to run later a query such as exec statspack.snap; I get this error
PLS-00201: identifier 'STATSPACK.SNAP' must be declared
Sources used:
http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_statspack_survival_guide.html
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96533/statspac.htm#21605
I read that one should run the three scripts individually:
spcusr.sql as sysdba
spctab.sql and spckg.sql as perfstat
Thanks.
Message was edited by:
Dan Asqlplus sys/***@*** as sysdba
has never worked on Windows
It should be sqlplus "sys/***@** as sysdba"
The first document you claim to have read actually does use the double quotes.
Posting an error message without context in this case is vague.
The PLS-00201 demonstrates statspack doesn't exist in the user PERFSTAT.
As you are calling an Ascii script, issues with a readable script usually can be resolved by reading the script.
When I read the script my conclusion is you never created the PERFSTAT user.
In either case, if you don't post spcusr.lis nor spctab.lis, I can only recommend you troubleshoot this yourself. It is not that difficult and you could actually learn something.

Go to the services in the control panel and see if the oracle service has started if not start it. If this is up then the registry is OK. if If not u can create it using the oradim utility.
Then set your oracle_sid = <dbname> in the dos prompt and try connecting again.

ORA-12157 when installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5?
Hi, Im installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5, I did it once, but when I tried to set it up again I
got this error on the last part of the install...
ORA-12157: TNS: internal network communication error
Anybody know what might cause this?
I think I have installed all required RPMs and set environment variables, kernel parameters,
created oracle users and groups as needed, but still get the above error. I searched the error and some claim it is a problem using newer glibc 2.4.4, so I tried installing on Fedora 4 and had the same error even with glibc 2.3???
Thanks so much,

To answer my own question, while computer is turned off, (after taking anti-static precautions) plug power to sata drive.
Connect sata data cable to M/board, do not connect sata data cable to drive.
Enable sata 1 & 2 in bios, boot to windows.
Drivers are installed for device.
Then carefully plug sata data cable into sata drive.
Windows detects new hardware.
Enter Disk Management & partition/format to your hearts content.
Thanks to those who had a look at my post. Hope this helps someone else. -
ORA-1017 when installing companion 10.2.0.1 on Linux with 9207 db
During installation, after having specified HTML DB Database Details, clicking on Next-button immediately produces ORA-1017 even if I know I am giving the correct password for SYS.
The 9207 DB is installed in userid "orasos".
The 10201 companion is being installed in userid "apex".
Both "orasos" and "apex" belong to same OS group.
REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE
I can login to 9207 DB from userid "apex" by setting PATH and ORACLE_HOME to 9207-values.
I can login to 9207 DB from "orasos" with password specified in companion installation.
Can anyone help with this? The installation doc you should be following is Oracle's.

thanks in advance.
chamaraWelcome to the forums !
Pl indicate which version of 10g you are installing and on which version of Win 2008. Neither 10gR1 nor 10gR2 are certified to be installed on Win 2008 R1, AFAIK.
For 10gR2, only 10.2.0.5 is certified for Win 2008 R2 - see MOS Doc 1173433.1 (How to Install Oracle 10.2.0.5 on MS Windows 7 / Windows 2008R2)
Also see MOS Doc 740926.1 (Where can I find the Database / Client software to download for Microsoft Vista, or Windows 2008R1?).
Both 10gR1 and 10gR2 are now in extended support - is there a reason you are not using 11gR2 ?

Error ORA-03113 while install Oracle9i r2 on redhat Advance serer
Hello All:
Can anyone inform me how to correct the error ORA-03113 when I install oracle 9i on RedHat Advance Server 2.1
This error has something to do with setting my CLASSPATH I think.
Thank YOU
Ezra TaylorHi,
You don't mention where exactly you were receiving this error but I was receiving this error when doing the database creation via DBCA. I was able to get around this by altering the 'shmmax' parameter. I suspect that the classpath is not the issue in this case, infact I think it should be unset (as well as other things such as JAVA_HOME).
I initially tried the 100Mb specified at this site: http://www.e-gineer.com/instructions/install-oracle9i-on-linux.phtml
However this wasn't enough so I went for the 'loony' option and set it to its maximum value using sysctl as root (see below):
sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=4294967295
Obviously you probably don't want to leave it at this size and will want to find the appropriate value. (Oracle reccomends half of physical memory - I haven't tried this yet).
HTH,
Gareth.

I want to use Hulu, but my computer says I need to update Adobe Flash. When I click on it, there is the world "vulnerable" next to the download. DOES this mean I should not download because it might negatively affect my computer.
