    Hi!
    Im trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.4 on Fedora Core 1 but I get the following error:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/tmp/OraInstall2004-09-10_06-39-32PM/libactionFile170.so: /opt/tmp/OraInstall2004-09-10_

    This is after selecting all options in runInstaller window, any ideas?

    I'm having the exact same error on Fedora Core 3. Setting tmp to 777 has no effect. It was already 777 with the sticky bit set.
    The link to togaware doesn't even talk about Oracle 9.2, only about 8i and 10g.
    Does anybody else have an idea?

  • Oracle 10g Express on Fedora 14 64-bit howto

    I wanted to test Oracle 10g XE using VMware and Fedora 14 and found the installation instructions form Oracle somewhat outdated and confusing. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm. Here are my installation notes - perhaps someone will find them helpful.
    h3. Installation of Fedora and Oracle 10g XE:
    h4. 1) Install Fedora 14 Desktop 64-bit form the Live DVD using the defaults.
    Note: To open a terminal window, select Terminal from Applications/System Tools menu.
    h4. 2) Edit /etc/selinux/config to disable SELinux:
    # su - root
    # vi /etc/selinux/config
    SELINUX=disabled
    h4. 3) Install required software including 32-bit libraries:
    $ su - root
    # yum install install bc libc.so.6 libaio.so.1 gcc libaio compat-libstdc++-33
    h4. 4) Download and install Oracle 10g XE:
    http://technet.oracle.com
    $ su - root
    # cd /home/<your_usename>/Downloads
    # yum install --nogpgcheck oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm
    h4. 5) Configure Oracle 10g XE:
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
    h4. 6) Configure your regular fedora user account:
    $ su - root
    # /usr/sbin/groupadd -r dba
    # usermod -G dba <your username>
    # su - <your username>
    $ echo "source /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh" >> $HOME/.bashrc
    Logout for the change to take affect!
    To access the Database Home Page go to "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    h3. Remote Access:
    h4. 1) Enable remote ssh login:
    $ su - root
    # service sshd start
    # chkconfig --level 345 sshd on
    h4. 2) Configure Network Firewall from System/Administration menu:
    Other Ports
    Add
    User defined
    Do this for ports 8080 and 1521
    Apply
    h3. VMWare Tools installation:
    +Note: configure your guest OS for Bridged Networking and fixed IP+
    $ su - root
    # yum install gcc make kernel-devel perl
    At your VMware guest menu, select "install VMware Tools"
    Right click on VMwareTools-xxx.tar.gz and extract it to the Desktop
    Open a terminal window and type the following:
    $ su - root
    # cd /home/<your_username>/Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
    # ./vmware-install.pl
    Continue to press Return and accept defaults.
    # reboot
    h3. Troubleshooting:
    h4. ssh port 22: Connection refused
    The Network Firewall is enabled by default, but port 22 is open.
    You may try to simply disable/apply and enable/apply and try again - strange, but worked for me.
    ( +service iptables restart+ did not resolve this)
    h4. Check if the ssh daemon is running:
    # lsof -i tcp:22
    h4. Use sqlplus to reset your passwords:
    Make sure you properly configured your regular fedora user account as outlined above:
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> alter user sys identified by "password" account unlock;
    SQL> alter user system identified by "password" account unlock;
    h4. Start and stop Oracle XE:
    # su - root
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    h3. Related Links:

    I got Oracle 11gR2 running on 64-bit Fedora 14 x86_64 - you do need a mix of x64_86 and i686 (32-bit) packages as given here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32285/toc.htm
    These aren't exact matches on version numbers so when runInstaller doesn't pass validation, just check "Ignore". This will fail during linking, so follow along below and the rest will go smoothly:
    installation error in invoking target 'agent nmhs'
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Hi.
    So you want to build for fedora 13 without getting the error...
    When you start to install with ./runInstaller, run in another terminal window (as root)
    ls $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk
    At first this will produce an error, as the installer wont have created this file yet.
    Once the file exists, do:
    vi $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk
    Search for the line
    $(MK_EMAGENT_NMECTL)
    Change it to:
    $(MK_EMAGENT_NMECTL) -lnnz11
    If you do it within 30-40 seconds of the file appearing, you should not get any errors and the build will go fine. If you get an error, finish your edit then click on retry.
    Hope that helps.
    Gordon.

  • ORA-19624 while creating a DB with dbca on Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Fedora Core 4

    Hi,
    I have big problems creating a database with the Database Configuration Assistant on Oracle 10.2.0.1, on a -     Fedora Core release 4 (Stentz).
    Running the dbca tool, I select the following options:
    - Create a Database
    - General Purpose
    - Then all defaults options
    And I get many errors.
    The first one is the following:
    ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
    ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/assistants/dbca/templates/General_Purpose.dbc
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file "/opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/assistants/dbca/templates/General_Purpose.dbc"
    ORA-27046: file size is not a multiple of logical block size.
    Can someone help me solving this problem?
    What are the log files you need to solve it?
    Thank you very much.

    Is the file "General_Purpose.dbc" available under "/opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/assistants/dbca/templates/"?
    Could you post the directory listing?
    Also, can you check rights on above folder for oracle user?
    Finally check metalink document 370972.1

  • Installing Oracle Apps 11.5.9 on Fedora Core Release 1

    Hello.
    I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows whether it's possible to install Oracle Apps. 11.5.9 on Fedora Core Release 1 or anyone who has already installed Oracle Apps. 11.5.9 on Fedora Core Release 1.
    If so, do you have any advise, do's/don't etc...
    Any info is greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Vandana.

    Vandana,
    If you check for all documents, the wordings used will be "11i is certified on Linux x86". However, note that this always means RedHat AS or ES. Fedora is not certified.
    Warm Regards

  • Oracle 10G on fedora 15

    Hi all,
    I want to install oracle 10G(10.2) Database express on fedora 15.
    I followed all the prescribed steps but still unable to get it done.That's why I had to post the question.
    I am writing all the commands that i used and also the errors so that you all may correct me.
    After increasing the swap size of my linux system to prescribed 1GB,I installed oracle 10G in my system.
    The swap files status is correctly shown using the swapon command,so this does not seems to be an issue.
    But the real problem starts when I try to start the listener.....
    The classpath settings in my /etc/profile is as follows:
    export ORACLE_HOME="/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server"
    export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH:/usr/local/jdk/bin:/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/lsnrctl:/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle:/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/sqlplus:/usr/lib/oracle
    export ORACLE_SID="XE"
    export NLS_LANG="AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII"
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
    export SQLPATH="$ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin"
    Now where am i wrong in these settings,if i am?
    The listener.ora file is
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    # (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE)) //I have commented this line//
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = shekhar)(PORT = 1521))
    DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)
    Now ,the series of error appears when i try to login from sqlplus
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
    also,I am unable to open the home page for my login on my browser.
    Starting the listener,by command lsnrctl start,i get following error
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=shekhar)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00505: Operation timed out
    Linux Error: 110: Connection timed out
    I also get 'resource already in use' error sometimes.That is to say,I never have my listener started.Do I have to make any changes in my listener.ora file?
    That's all I have to mention.
    I request you all to please help me out of this problem.Any help will be really appreciated.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks.....................................................

    Verify the hostname and IP address, that they resolve both ways (hostname and IP), also check netstat to ensure nothing else has the 1521 port in use. The HOST= listener entry ought to be the FQDN, it could be the IP, or when in doubt (i.e. if the host uses DHCP) the "any IP" address of 0.0.0.0 can also work. For the "easy" way out.
    $ hostname
    $ nslookup -sil <hostname>
    ... -> n.n.n.n
    $ nslookup -sil <n.n.n.n>
    ... -> <hostname>
    $ cat /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    n.n.n.n <hostname>.<domainname> <hostname>
    $ netstat -an |egrep 1521
    # if there is a:
    ... tcp <n.n.n.n>:1521 0.0.0.0:* ... LISTEN...
    # pick a different port. Add the port# exception to the firewall. If you want remote connections.Is the network interface enabled?
    $ ifconfig -a
    ethN ... <n.n.n.n> ...Make sure it has an IPv4 address and its correct.
    export NLS_LANG="AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII"That isn't needed, and isn't correct, the character set should be AL32UTF8. And won't have any effect except for stuff you're running at the command line, i.e. expdp, the older exp, or some other client utility.
    ... IPC ... //I have commented this line//That's fine. It isn't needed.
    Check the alertlog for the startup attempt. The engine may gripe on a memory parameter setting, can't recall the exact error but it has to do with changes in shared memory stuff. I've installed to Fed15 with no trouble, other than having a few MB short of a full 1GiB allocated to swap.
    For trying startup/shutdown use a switch user oracle and the instance will be much happier. And add your userID to the ora group to allow a sysdba connection without using the su ... oracle bits, but only when you're not doing a startup.
    Sometimes the ...env.sh barfs on the NLS environment .sh call, but it's not critical. To make it really easy pull those bits from the ...env.sh into your own ora_env file to source.
    $ ... set environment <period><space>...OH/bin/oracle_env.sh
       # OR set up your own ~/ora_env
       $ cd
       $ egrep -v NLS ...OH/bin/oracle_env.sh > ora_env
       $ . ./ora_env
    $ sudo su - oracle -c "sqlplus /nolog"
    ... connect /as sysdba
    ... ? connected ... Idle Instance ? ... startup;

  • Oracle 10g express - post installation

    Hi All !
    I installed Oracle 10g exp. on my linux system (fedora core 4) yesterday. I am very new to both the linux os and oracle db. So I'm sure I messed up somewhere, though I can't figure out where....if anyone could help me....here is the problem
    installation was successful...I configured Oracle db with default http port:8080, listener: 1521 and the password.
    after installation I don't see oracle icons on my redhat menu. I tried opening in the browser with this
    http://(hostname):8080/htmldb and it does not bring up anything. I may be doing something wrong in looking up the hostname...here is the listener.log file....I'd appreciate if any1 could tell me what is wrong.
    Thank you,
    -----------------------------listener.log-----------------------------
    System parameter file is /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/listener.ora
    Log messages written to /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/log/listener.log
    Trace information written to /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/trace/listener.trc
    Trace level is currently 0
    Started with pid=10287
    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=pcp0010100038pcs.levtwn01.pa.comcast.net)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    Linux Error: 99: Cannot assign requested address

    I encountered this issue on my laptop and realized it was because I installed Oracle XE when connected via DHCP. I never manually specified a hostname so my install was burned with crazy DHCP hostnames which of course change every time I get onto my work network. So to fix it, I did the following:
    1. Hard set a hostname (Fedora Core 6 /etc/sysconfig/network + hostname command)
    2. Updated tnslistener.ora and tnsnames.ora to use the new hostname
    3. force-reload
    All good. JDBC connects, "service oracle-xe status" is good and the home page is back.
