Oracle 10.2.0.4 install on Server 2008R2

I've been trying to create a test 10.2.0.4 database on a server running windows server 2008 64 bit standard. I had to hunt to find the download, when I did the download page stated that to install on server 2008 I need the 10.2.0.5 patchset. Which is great, if you already have the 10.2.0.4 installed, which I don't, because it won't let me.
I have searched other threads on this, all seem to dead end with no solution or suggest upgrade to 11g (not an option)
I have set the compatibility mode on the setup.exe and changed the oraparam.ini to include version 6.1 - I get as far as the OUI window coming up, unclick install starter database (or not) and click next, a little bar shows up with the next part of the install then vanishes with no error, nothing.
After I finally found the cert matrix on metalink, it appears that 10.2.0.4 is NOT certified on 2008 R2 64, but 10.2.0.5 is certified, which is fine because the prod database I want to copy is on 10.2.0.8 - but there is no 10.2.0.5 for download (except for Itanium) so ???
Kind if a chicken/egg scenario, you can patch 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5 so it'll run on 2008 R2, but you can't install it in the first place to patch it.
I am out of ideas - any suggestions?

When you install 10.2.0.4, you need to ignore the pre-requirements and go ahead with the installation as follows.
setup.exe -ignoreSysPrereqs
After you do the above you will need to download the 10.2.0.5 patch from metalink which is 8202632 and install it.
I think this will solve your conundrum

  • How to install windows server 2008r2 on proliant microserver with 8gb storage?

I've just purchased two HP Proliant N40 Microservers and am trying to install Windows 2008 Server R2 on them.  They come with a single hard drive of just 250GB capacity so on one server I have used the two supplied drives to create a RAID1 array of 250GB and Windows installed fine.
On the second I have installed four WB Green 2TB drives and have configured them as RAID10 for the best performance and resilience. So I have a single disk showing to Windows of 4GB after the RAID array is built.
But Windows gets so far before failing saying it can't proceed (and giving no clue as to why). Googling the issue it seems that there is an issue with installing Windows on a drive with > 2TB.  HP themselves talk about the use of RAID drivers for Windows here: http://h20584.www2.hp.com/hpgt/guides/select?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=4248009&lan... but the link is useless because the link it gives for downloading the driveres just displays a "Not authorised" screen.
I just want a simple way to install Windows 2008 using a secure, performant reliable set of discs.  RAID10 gives me that but Windows won't install.  It seems my only option is to format two RAID1 arrays to overcome this silly limitation.
Am I right?  Or is there a way to configure the four disks as a RAID10 array that Windows can be installed on?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Ian

Update, install continues when drives are set to IDE...so it fails using RAID (1 or 10).

  • Install SQL Server 2008R2 Enterprise Evaluation Edtion

    Hi All,
Our requirement is to install MSSQL 2008R2 Enterprise Evaluation Edition (Trail Version) and test application and data integrity. Once all the tests are successful we want to go with Enterprise Edition. So here my question is if I install Enterprise Evaluation
Edition with a default instance can I able to install default instance through Enterprise Edition (licensed). or it stops me saying that only one default instance is allowed?
And also is there by any chance we can make evaluation edition as enterprise by giving license key. I believe it is not possible after installation.
Please suggest and correct me if I am wrong. Thank You
    Regards,

Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva

    Hi
You can upgrade the edition of SQL Server by using the Edition Upgrade wizard. This will allow you to convert your default instance of evaluation into Enterprise, no need for another full install.

  • How to find out if Oracle is Installed in server

I apologize for the simple question but no one in here seems to know if our server has Oracle installed or not. I have no experience in Oracle and have root access to the server but dont know the command to check wether Oracle is installed or not! anyone?
I thank you in advance for any help
    Eduardo

This is one of those questions that can be a bit difficult to answer, given all the possibilities in the world. Since you said the magic word "root" I will assume you are on unix or at least a posix system.
http://tahiti.oracle.com has installation guides, find the one for your platform and check that. It should give a good foundation of what you want to look for. But some people get creative and some things are decisions by the DBA.
Since oracle may be installed and not running, looking for oracle processes may not tell you if oracle is installed. But a ps|grep ora can often give clues. It is even possible to delete files while oracle is running... (I've seen oracle uninstalled - it keeps running but new users can't log in. This is because rm a file doesn't actually remove a file until everyone is done with it.) Also, check ipcs - shared memory being used by oracle is a clue oracle is installed and/or running, but even that can be misleading with some configurations - sometimes a bungled startup will leave a mess.
Many unix systems have clues in /etc or /var/opt. Look for files with names like oratab and oraenv. Look at your passwd and group files, see if there are users with names like 'oracle' and groups like 'dba'. Look at user .profile, .cshrc, .bashrc, .kshrc files and see if there are references to oracle environment setting. $ORACLE_BASE, $ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_SID are often good clues, as well as references to oraenv or similar names. Look at the system startup files and see if there are references to oracle: there could be things like /sbin/rc*/*ora*, /etc/rc.d/*/*ora*, and so forth. Often the rc directories have a link to an init directory, such as a file like /sbin/init.d/oracle. There may be an inventory around somewhere called oraInventory, perhaps under $ORACLE_BASE, and installation log files, check your install guide for names. Also, if you have found $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID in an oratab, you might check $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/bdump/alert*log. Be aware that $ORACLE_HOME and the "oracle home directory" probably are not the same.
Older systems that have been clumsily dealt with may have all these things, and yet still not have "oracle installed." Good luck.
For these reasons and more, usually you would want to specify exact platform and oracle versions.
    Edit: fixed alert log location

  • Install Oracle 8i Personald Edition on Windows 2000 Server SP2

    Hi
I have problem to install the Oracle 8i Personal Edition on
    Windows 2000 Server SP2.
I run the Setup.exe, I become the message (not exactly) “JRE
(Java Runtime Environment) was not found…… please visit
www.javasoft.com….. and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher…”
Now, I have download and install this JRE (JavaTM 2 Runtime
    Environment v 1.2.2_008 / Internationalized version of Java 2
    Runtime Environment).
    The error-messages comes again.
    Have everyone a idea?

    hi phill...
why dont you try it out with the same CD and increase your RAM
by another 64MB? This will be enough. The reason is , most
Oracle 8i releases are combined with a java based Oracle
Universal Installer. This requires some good amount of RAM. Just
try it out with some extra memory. If this also didnt work, then
send in the problem, error with your system config. This will
help me in solving your problem.
    Imran.

  • How to Install Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) on Windows Server 2003?

I recently installed "32-bit Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio" on my computer (Windows 7, 64bit). Everything seems fine and I can develop and run my application in Visual Studio 2010 and IIS 7.
Now, when I deploy my application to the Server, it raises error:
Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleCommand' threw an exception. ---> Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
Obviously I need to install ODAC on the server, too. My server is:
    - Windows 2003 32 bit R2 (I know, I know!)
    - IIS 6
So. I downloaded the same installation from Oracle website (ODAC 11.2 Release 5 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio [11.2.0.3.20]) and installed it on the server. But still getting the same error.
PS: When I was installing, I chose Oracle Data Access Component for Oracle Client 11.2.0.3.20 in Oracle Universal Installer. hmmmm. Should I choose "Oracle Server" instead? Screenshot

ODP.NET, Unmanaged Driver uses unmanaged dependencies in the Oracle Client. The error you see means you have another Oracle Client installed on the Win2003 machine and ODP.NET is attempting to load the incorrect Oracle Client version, rather than the version you installed ODP.NET with.
What you need to do is direct ODP.NET where to find the correct version of its unamanaged Oracle Client dependencies. This will be generally the bin directory of your Oracle Client home that was installed with ODP.NET.
You can learn more about DllPath here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20434_01/doc/win.112/e23174/InstallODP.htm#sthref94
If you're not familiar with how to set ODP.NET settings in the Registry or .NET config files, you can read how to do that here:

  • I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.

I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.
But this massage pop up when I used my browser first time before start database.
Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
    * Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
    *Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.

You can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586

  • Installing Oracle 11gR2 Standard Edition on WINDOWS Server 2008R2 with ASM

    Hi,
I want to setup Oracle 11g DB (11.2.0.2) Standard Edition on Windows Server 2008R2 x64 bit with ASM Instance. I would appreciate if you could suggest me with the following little but important questions.
The following link from Oracle doesnt have 11.2.0.2 db version for windows x64 bit. Do a patch (which I think is a complete installation) is needed to install after installing 11.2.0.1? or I can directly install 11.2.0.2?
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html
Secondly, I have no such experience regarding installing and setting up ASM Instance on windows. How many disks or etc is needed for ASM (as ASM disks). One of the admin guy said, he has 6 disks (2 for OS and 6 you can use for Oracle or ASM so so). Could you please suggest, how should I divide the disk partitions of what should I say no idea :(
Also, do ASM instance (diskgroups, disks) should be setup before creating DB (through dbca?)
    I was thinking like:
    - Installing Oracle software
    - Creating ASM disks,diskgroups,instance,etc
    - Creating DB (using dbca?), isnt' it?
    Bundle of thanks in advance.
    Best Regards
