Oracle 10.2.0.5 RAC to 12c CDB/PDB Upgrade

We have a three node Oracle 10.2.0.5 RAC on OEL 5u3 64bit. We want to migrate to 12c CDB/PDB three node RAC on OL6u5 64bit. What is the best process? The segment size of the 10.2 database is nearly 1TB.

  • Putting Oracle Apps 11i on 10g RAC using VMware

    Hello All,
    I am building a Oracle Applications 11i on 10g RAC, using VMware..Since there aren't any docs I could find on internet explaining how to do this, I have come up with my own. I have combined the MEtalink doc:362135.1 and the docs describing building a 10gRAC "database" using VMware..I want to know if the below process is good enough to get the required results:
    Steps:
    -Install VMware on HOST m/c
    -Configure 1st virtual m/c, say RAC1
    -Install RHEL on RAC1
    -Install 11i with 9i database on the local SCSI bus- SCSI 0:0
    -Install VMware client tools
    -Create a new ethernet adapter(for private interconnect) on RAC1
    -Create shared disks on RAC1
    -Partition the disks
    -Add the disks as RAW devices in /etc/rawdevices
    -Clone RAC1 to a new virtual m/c,say RAC2
    -Delete the 11i apps directories from its local SCSI bus..since these would be redundant on RAC2
    -Install Clusterware s/w on RAC1 using the same oraInventory that is used by the Applications 11i installation-
    -Install the 10g DB software and create ASM instances using dbca
    -Install Database componenets from 10g companion CD
    -Upgrade CRS abd DB s/w to 10.2.0.4
    -Upgrade the 9i database to 10g using dbua from the 10g ORACLE_HOME
    -Convert the newly upgraded 10g databse to RAC using the rconfig tool
    -Post migration steps for RAC
    -Enable AutoConfig on the Applications Database tier
    - Follow the "Establish Applications Environment for RAC" section from Doc:362135.1
    -Configure PArallel Concurrent Processing(PCP)

    (Considering that there are only 2 nodes the scenario the steps would be as follows:
    1. Install RAC using the steps provided at the link:

    2.On RAC1 create a single instance of Oracle 11i (Both DB and Apps are on the same node)
    3. Follow the steps outlined in the Note:362135.1
    One thing to note is that the steps are the same whether the nodes are real or virtual.

  • Recommended patches on oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC database and CRS

    This week I am planning to upgrade my oracle 10.2.0.2 RAC database oracle 10.2.0.4.
    Also, I want to apply if any recommended patches we can apply on 10.2.0.4 database or on CRS 10.2.0.4
    I searched in metalink, but in vain i didn't get any exact patches recommended on 10.2.0.4.
    If you have any patch numbers that need to be applied on oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC database, please provide me.

  • How to drop oracle 10.2.0.4 rac database on RHEL5

    Hi,
    I am having oracle 10.2.0.4 rac database with ASM configuration on RHEL5. Every week/day i take rman level 0 / level 1 backups by using RMAN into disk. Now i would like to test those backups. For that i need to drop this existing database and restrore, recovery from those backups. My database is configured with asm that is having two disk groups.
    DATA for storing data
    FRA for archive logs
    How can i drop the rac 10.2.0.4 database and restore & recovery database from RMAN backups with asm. Could any one send clean steps for this testing?

    I asked about instances. Before performing your steps is it mandatory to bring down all the oracle instances. Before droping this database how to deregister these services from clusterware? After recover the database how to register the database services with clusterware?if you want to register/de-register, you need to use SRVCTL in clusterware. commands to ADD/REMOVE from clusterware, refer this below note.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC vip故障漂移导致监听关闭.

    故障现象：vip漂移至另一节点导致监听关闭，vip漂移现象随机在2个节点中出现，数据库实例正常，只是vip漂移至另一节点，同时监听offline。

    I would like know if there is recommended process for upgrading the Linux OS on Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC from RHEL4 to RHEL5 (if possible, with minimum amount of downtime). Are there any whitepapers, recommended steps, obstacles, etc. We are currently running on RHEL4. I have not been able to locate much information about upgrading existing OS's in a RAC enviroment.

    CrisIn my opinion, the recommended process for upgrading the Linux OS on Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC from RHEL4 to RHEL5, is to clean install.
    Clean install means, install a new RHEL5, and then migrate the RAC 10g there!

    even maybe not on Windows (I faced this on Unix), proceed with invalid objects as in : Note 1453935 - Invalid DataPump objects after Windows patch collection > 25
    this is the leftover of some previous 10g patching. Once objects are recreated, recompilation will go ok.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

    I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
    I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
    I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force
    root.sh Errors:
    Adding daemon to inittab
    CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
    CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
    ohasd failed to start: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
    I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
    # oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    VOL5
    # ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
    VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
    When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
    # oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
    The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
    I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
    There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.

    oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.
    upon review of this document, even though it was for 10g, it still appears to be relevant

    and
    udev utility can be used for disk mounting consistency between the nodes. It is the preferred tool. Note:371814.1 explains how to use the udev option.

  • Oracle 9i Standalone to 10g RAC ??

    We have Oracle 9i on Solaris 9 with about 2 TB of data/index on SAN. We want to migrate this to 2 new boxes running Solaris 10 and Oracle 10g RAC -- storage SAN. What should be the best approach considering:
    1. Fastest copying method for data/index from existing system (Solaris 9/Oracle 9i -> Solaris 10/Oracle 10g -- all on separate machines).
    2. No return to 9i, once it 10g, stay Stanalone and/or RAC.
    3. If 10g Standalone to RAC creates problem, stay on 10g Standalone and try later.
    4. If ASM creates any issue, stay non-ASM/RAW files and try later.

    Due to the size of our Production environments we have decided not to pursue the MCOD option.
    Eg: Take a QA environment which consists of SRM and BW and we have multiple nodes with both installed on each node. Now if I were to go the MCOD option then these instances can connect to one large Oracle File System using different schema's. 
    What I'm trying to establish is in that one RAC, is it possible to have the multiple database instances on each node (SRM, BW etc) connect to multiple Oracle File Systems ie SRM connect to its own OFS and BW to its own instead of the one large shared OFS?

    I am planning to upgrade our RAC database 2 nodes with ASM from HP-UX to RHEL 5.9.
    Following is our setup
    Current setup:
    Oracle Database 10g r2 (10.2.0.5.0) RAC database.
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: HP-UX ia64
    Database Size: 1.2 TB
    New Setup:
    Oracle Database 10g r2(10.2.0.5.0) RAC database
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: RHEL 5.9 x86 64
    Since we are moving from a big endian format to a small endian format(HP-UX to RHEL 5.9) the same ASM cannot be used.
    Kindly help me with process and other important documents to be followed.

    If it was a standlone database concepts like transportable tablespaces, rman would have been convenient.
    Since we are using a RAC database with ASM as storage how do we use these techniques specified in NOTE:733205.1
    Due to endianness issue we cannot use the same ASM instance.
    Along with the new RAC node install a new ASM instance would have to be created.
    Kindly help me with migration for RAC with existing ASM to new Hardware
