Oracle 10.2 Grid Control – Adding Database residing on different hosts

I used to work with Oracle 9.2 Enterprise Manager. Now I have installed Oracle 10.2.0.2 Grid Control on Windows 2000. I want to do database administrator from Oracle Grid Control for Oracle 9i, Oracle 10.1 and 10.2 databases. I do not want to install any agents on my database servers because they are production servers,
All of I am interested in to have nice user interface of Oracle 10g grid control, so I can do database administration such as adding a database file, looking at database users, sessions etc. I was able to do all of that with Oracle9i enterprise manager. IN Oracle9i EM, one can manually add a database instance if it cannot be discovered using an agent. Is it possible to do that in Oracle 10g grid control?
When I start Grid Control, go to targets tab and then database tab and want to add a database, it asks for host name. When I enter hostname (which is accessible from the network), it says host not found. Is an agent required on the host before Grid Control can recognize it. In Oracle 9i enterprise manager, there was an option to manually add a database (i.e. automatic discovery was not successful), is it possible to do that with Oracle 10g grid control.

Over the years, working with Oracle, I've found tremendous value in reading the docs. You might find similar value doing that too.
The only issue you seem to have is an unwillingness to learn the architecture and concepts behind the product you are trying to install. You get rid of the error by deleting the entry and doing it correctly.
There is no way to drop a brick on your foot and not have it hurt. <g>

    Hi,
Our company is currently using Grid Control v10.2.0.2 and different agent versions on 32-bits linux servers.
We are using this version for about 3 years and now we want to start with a fresh Grid Contol enviroment so started a new project.
The goal of the project is to use the latest version of Grid Control and 64bits linux servers, but also to monitor our EBS enviroments.
Is Oracle currently working to certify AMP(3.0) for Oracle Ebs for Grid Control 10.2.0.5 and agents version 10.2.0.5 on 64-bits linux servers??
I searched OTN and metalink but couldnt find anything about it.

  • Cleaning up the Grid Control Repository Database

Our Grid Control Repository database has grown large over time and we need to free up some space. When we remove targets, is all the data related to the target cleaned out?

Double check your partition maintenance is working.
Deleting targets will delete the underlying data, but you may have to do some general database cleanup to reap the benefit in space terms.

When you remove targets, related data is removed. However, it is advisable to use the emd_maintenance package to clean up and reclaim space.

  • How to monitor Oracle Glassfish with Grid Control 11g

    Hi,
Could someone tell me how can i monitor Oracle Glassfish with Grid Control 11g ?? i think i need a plug-in but i don't know where could i download it
I guess the information i can monitor depends on the plug-in :)
    Regards
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
We do have partners that routinely write plug-ins to extend OEM. If you take a look at the EM Extensibility Exchange below, you will find various extensions that partners such as Blue Medora have written:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=34841:1:26399399216901:::::
Please keep in mind though that between SLM and JVM diagnostics, you would have a significant amount of visibility even without the Glassfish target.

  • Installing Oracle Agent through Grid Control!

    Hi,
Can we install oracle agent on Solaris through Grid control which is located on Linux?
    Thanks
    Azam

before you can use the agents (the deployment will succeed) you need to apply 2 patches on OMS home.
Check metalink note: How to Deploy the Latest Database Plugin to the OMS and the Agent in 12C Cloud Control [ID 1388143.1]
it explains how you can apply the prerequisite patches and deploy the agents for Solaris and AIX (the current available agents).

  • Grid Control and Database Control

If I'm installing a new set of database servers (10g Rel2 10.2.0.5 - linux RHEL4) that I plan to have under Grid control (on a separate Grid-control only machine) can I opt to not install the Database Control on the monitored database servers? If so, can someone point me to some documentation? I think I'm getting confused with the semantics in the various documents. I do realize that I need to deploy agents to the monitored database servers. Much appreciated.

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm (Full List)
When you plan to install a Grid Control, then you do not have to configure DB control on the targets.
For Grid, you do have to install a Grid Agent on each target server which needs to be monitored.
Go through the above link which talks about the Concepts of Grid.

  • Data Guard - Grid Control - Standby database

    Heys,
now I have to RAC Clusters. The next step would be to setup a standby database to prepare a graceful switchover.
But what are the next steps ?
I am currently installing GridControl on a seperate host with the option: Enterprise Manager10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database
    The installation is still running....
What are the steps ? Any documentation ? Any tutorials ?
Do I need to install agents on each client in the cluster ?
What about the name resolution ?
    Any listener configuration necessary ?
Is the configuration done via data guard command line ?
    Christian

Bear in mind that the standby creation wizard in Grid Control will only create a non-RAC standby. Once you get to Grid Control 10.2.0.5 and your databases are in 11g you will be able to use the Grid Control convert to RAC wizard on your standby. Prior to that you will have to convert the standby to RAC manually or follow the above mentioned paper and create the standby by hand and then import it into Grid Control.

  • How to create oracle services using grid control

    Hi All,
I have oracle grid control account my grid control version is 10.2.0.4.0.Can any one please let me know the tab from which I can create Oracle services.
I know we can create oracle services using DBCA also. When I'm trying to do that way it is giving below error.
    dbca
    DISPLAY not set.
Set DISPLAY environment variable, then re-run.
How to set DISPLAY environment variable.
    Thanks,
    Rafi.

Normally, you set DISPLAY to an IP address with the suffix : and 0.0: the IP address must match a machine able to display X11 windows.
    Example with Linux bash shell:
export DISPLAY=192.168.0.1:0.0What is your OS version ? What is your shell (bash, ksh, sh, csh) ? How do you connect to the UNIX host ?

  • Can I restore the database (clone) to different Host/User account?

    Hi,
We use RMAN catalog that backup our production database using "oracle" user (OS user is "oracle") account. We wanted to clone this database to different host and to different OS user (for example is "oradev") account. Both user has same group (oradba). Can I able to restore the control fies/data files to different user account (the account that wasn't backed up).
Please update if you know of any documents/pdfs/links that explains this detail.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Ranga.

Yes, the user account should be transparent assuming the backuppieces have the appropriate user/group permissions.

  • Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager Control for Database

    Hi,
I have a question. I have installed Oracle 10g Application server and Database server. Now, I am able to start OEM for database using "emctl start dbconsole". And I am able to browse it on port 5500. But everytime it shows me database "orcl". I have two databases. So, what to do if I want to manage another database using OEM for databse control. I have checked ports.ini file and it shows me that OEM port for another database is 5501. But when I try to browse it, I am getting nothing. So, please guide me.
    Thanks,
    Sanket.

    Sanket,
If you go to $ORACLE_HOME/install, you will see the file portlist.ini. If you open this file, you will see one or more entries in the format
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port <SID_NAME> = <PORT_NUMBER>
In my case, my SID, TEST is running on the port 5501, and therefore the following entry appears in ports.ini :
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (TEST) = 5501
In order for this entry to be added automatically, I think you have to use the database configuration assistant (dbca) to create the database.
When I open the following location, http://127.0.0.1:5501/em/, in my browser I can see the enterprise management console for the SID. Similarly, the URL http://127.0.0.1:5500/em/ is the management console for another SID that is running on the same machine.
If you are using Linux, make sure that that 127.0.0.1, or the hostname (in the url) in the portlist.ini file is in the /etc/hosts* file.
    Good Luck!
    Regards,
    Rudi
