Very interesting Kecskemethy
In the paper it is written:
*4.2 Default Makefile Issue on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5*
The default makefile version on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is make 3.81. In this
makefile version, the default database name (db_name) is not recognized by the client.
Therefore, you should use makefile version 3.79 or use @db_name whenever
username/password is used in the makefile.
I tried the rpm-make-3.79 .... El5.ppc but I've not found.
Should I then replace @dbname in the makefile.
But where are these makefile that uses Oracle?
And then I'm not sure that this will solve the problem ...

  • Oracle 10G 2 install on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 - Get ORA-12154 exception

    During the install, on the step "Oracle Database configuration assistant", I am getting the error:
    ORA-12154 TNS": could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
    Has anyone seen this before? I am struggling for past couple of days on this.

    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    Cause: A connection to a database or other service was requested using a connect identifier, and the connect identifier specified could not be resolved into a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a net service name then the net service name could not be found in a naming method repository, or the repository could not be located or reached.
    Action:
    - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file):
    - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA)
    - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper directory and is accessible.
    - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
    - If you are using directory naming:
    - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is accessible.
    - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the connect identifier is configured in the directory.
    - Verify that the default context being used is correct by specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN as the connect identifier
    - If you are using easy connect naming:
    - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Make sure the host, port and service name specified are correct.
    - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks. See the Oracle Net Services Administrators Guide or the Oracle operating system specific guide for more information on naming.

  • XWindows client for Redhat EL5/Oracle 10g

    I am trying to install Solman 4.0 on to a Redhat EL5/Oracle 10g platform but the sapinst screen does not refresh when we move through the installation.  The xwindows client is CYGWIN and is running on a WinXP workstation.
    Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to fix it?  May this be because of a problem with the xwindows client?  If so can someone recommend a shareware xwindows client to use?  We are currently at the most recent version for sapinst so I cannot patch that.
    Steve

    I know this effect with cygwin/X.
    I see several options:
    1. Resize the window everytime an update was made, then the window will be repainted. That's annoying, but it works.
    2. install sapinst locally on your WinXP and start sapinst in server mode.
    3. try another XServer like XDeep/32 or X-Win32

    I think 6.2 is easier, just follow read me instruction, on redhat 7.0 you must run patch to downgrade glibc from 2.2 to 2.1

    Hallo !
    Three weeks ago I had successfully installed Oracle 8.0.5 on RedHat 6.1; some tips:
    As described in ftp://ftp.oracle.com/pub/www/otn/linux/README download the five compaitibility RPMS
    compat-binutils-5.2-2.9.1.0.23.1.i386.rpm
    compat-egcs-5.2-1.0.3a.1.i386.rpm
    compat-egcs-c++-5.2-1.0.3a.1.i386.rpm
    compat-glibc-5.2-2.0.7.1.i386.rpm
    compat-libs-5.2-1.i386.rpm
    (I have got them from
    ftp://ftp.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/redhat.com/dist/old-releases/redhat-6.0/i386/RedHat/RPMS/
    and install them.
    The glibcpath.tgz is available from OTN. Install it as described in the ORACLE RAEDME.
    Good luck !

  • Oracle 8.1.5 nad RedHat 7.0 Instalation

    Hi
    I have problem with instalation of Oracle 8.1.5 on RedHat 7.0.
    I tried to follow the documentetion of Oracle but with no result.
    Is anyone who can tell me what should I do.
    What install ( and how to do it)? Where and what should I write?
    Please Help

    Even i have the same problem installing oracle 8.1.6. I tried tracing using strace and found the jre is going in a loop with
    SIGNAL SIGSEGV segmentation violation. Is there any work around for this
    possible reasons
    1. GLIC compatability 2.1 is required.
    i havent tried yet but i believe this should work, before starting runInstaller
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.(5 or 14).
    run /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    still if it doesnt try the patch
    glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar
    could any one think of an alternative.
    please please post the feedback
    thanks

  • Solution: Installing Oracle 8.1.7 on RedHat 7.1

    I was having problems installing from the JRE included in the download so I
    began to hunt around and to make a long story short, I've been able to launch
    the installer using JDK 1.2.2. Below you will find the command line that I used.
    First, the preconditions:
    1) the JDK is installed at /usr/local/jdk122
    2) the 8.1.7 tar is expanded to /oracle/tmp
    The command line:
    /usr/local/jdk122/bin/java -Doracle.installer.library_loc=/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/bin/linux -Doracle.installer.startup_location=/oracle/tmp/install/linux/.. -Doracle.installer.nlsEnabled="TRUE" -Doracle.installer.unixVersion=2.4.17 -mx100m -cp /tmp/OraInstall:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/OraInstaller.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/InstImages.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/InstHelp.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/oracleice.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/help.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/ewt.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/xmlparser.jar:/oracle/tmp/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/lib/swingaccess.jar oracle.sysman.oii.oiic.OiicInstaller -scratchPath /tmp/OraInstall -sourceLoc /oracle/tmp/stage/products.jar -sourceType network

  • Installing Oracle 8.0.5 on RedHat 7.0

    Has anyone encountered problems installing Oracle 8.0.5 on Redhat 7.0. RedHat 6.2 installation works.

    Should be OK. I was running that combination for a while and can't recall any serious issues during install.
    I am currently running 8.0.5.1 on a Mandrake 7.2 PC. The install was pretty straightforward :
    - Install compatability RPMs (I used slightly higher versioned RPMs than listed in the Oracle documentation);
    - Install 8.0.5.1 s/w;
    - Apply Oracle patch;
    - Create dbs;
    - Configure listener;
    - Create the startup/shutdown rc script and links.
    That's about it for the installation.
    I haven't put the database to much use yet, so there may be other issues ahead :)
    Oh, one thing to note on that last point is that you should have a look at how the /etc/rc.d/rc file operates.
    Under Mandrake 7.2 it will look for a file in /var/lock/subsystem that has the same name as the /etc/init.d script before running the stop script correctly.
    This differs slightly from what I see in the *8.1.7* documentation, so might be due to a difference between mandrake and the other distributions.
    FWIW here is my /etc/init.d/oracle file.
    #!/bin/sh
    # chkconfig: 345 99 10
    # description: Oracle databases
    # Source function library.
    . /etc/init.d/functions
    CWD=`pwd`

    su - oracle -c '. $HOME/.oraclerc && dbstart && lsnrctl start'
    touch /var/lock/subsys/oracle
    stop)
    su - oracle -c '. $HOME/.oraclerc && dbshut && lsnrctl stop'
    rm -f /var/lock/subsys/oracle
    restart)

  • Install linux redhat for oracle 10g2

    Hi Friends,
    I will install linux redhat linux 5 for oracle 10g 2. How to created correct partition of linux to match oracle 10g 2.
    I install linux as server style. any advice?
    Thanks
    JIm

    Hi JIm
    It is true that for us DBA the OFA is the standard by excellence. You have also the quite good document on that gives you also a lot of examples.
    http://www.ss64.com/orasyntax/ofa.html
    What is a style server? Do you mean as a template server?
    Please note also that if you need to do more than 1 installation you can clone your binaries from your first installation. Ideally you should patch it to he latest release and then make your clone.
    1. tar your current binaries under /oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    2. copy the tar file on the target server under /export/home/oracle and then untar it.
    3. cd to new_oracle_home/oui
    4. ./runInstaller -clone -silent ORACLE_HOME="<new_oracle_home>" ORACLE_HOME_NAME="<unique_home_name>"
    read more on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/app_cloning.htm
    You can also clone your database to other targets
    1 Duplicate from source to your targets
    1.1 Perform a database backup including archive log
    1.2 Create an Oracle password file for the auxiliary instance
    1.3 Establish Oracle Net connectivity to the auxiliary instance
    1.4 Create an initialization parameter file for the auxiliary instance
    1.5 Start the auxiliary instance in NOMOUNT mode
    1.6 Mount or open the target database
    1.7 Ensure that backups and archived redo log files are available
    1.8 Allocate auxiliary channels if needed
    1.9 Execute the DUPLICATE script
    Hope this will help you to get the templates installed.
    Cheers
    Hubert

    In short, I found the missing file (libc.so) and I tried to create a simbolic link to it in the path rpm was asking (/usr/lib). In my system I found 2 (32 and 64 version). I tried both, I mean to link /usr/lib/libc.so to 64 version (as you can see in the console). It did not work. Then I did rm and ln -s to the 32 version of it but same result.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    Felipe

    You have probably compat-glibc installed but your are missing glibc-devel package, which contains object files for development using standard C libraries.
    I'm haven't tried it under RHEL, but it should work to setup the Oracle public yum repository, which will allow you to use e.g. yum install oracle-validated. This method will automatically fetch dependent packages. More info at: http://public-yum.oracle.com/
