  • How does windows service start oracle?

    Hi,
I am running 10gR2 on Windows XP SP 2
does anyone know what does actually happen when I go to
Start->Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and
    start OracleServiceORCL ?
    Is it:
    startup nomount ?
    startup mount ?
    startup open ?
    startup force ?
    Thanks

Also check the registry parameter ORA_<SID>_AUTOSTART under HKLM\software\oracle\HomeXX. If set to FALSE, when windows service starts, the instance is NOT started.

  • Oracle Management Server - Windows Service

    Dear all ...
I've just installed (for test) Oracle 9i Server in a machine with Windows XP and have created a database for test too. Also I've installed Oracle Management Service using EM Assistant and created a repository to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager with a OMS login but I have been finding some troubles that I can't understand.
Firts is: I have installed the OMS and I went to Windows Services Management to check with the service was running but it wasn't. When I try to start manually it shows me a message saying the service could not be started because the dependencies are not started or the service no longer exists. I can't understand why if I've just installed it. And I did check the properties and it has no dependencies.
Second: I've checked everything, Listener, TNSnames, Sqlora and also Hosts (Windows Parameters) and are all working fine. However, when I try to connect OEM by OMS I type user: Sysman (the first one) password: oem_temp and in Management Server I type "my_machine's_name" and it shows me a messagem saying it wasn't possible to resolve the name of the host.
I'd like two helps if it's ok. How can I sort out the problem with the service? Is it necessary to be running if I want to use OEM by OMS? How can I connect by OMS if OEM isn't recognising the host?
    Thanks a lot
    Bruno Palma

    Hi ...
So I rebooted the machine and I saw the service wasn't running and its status was Manual. Even setting it up to be Automatically and restaring again it didn't go up. Here I use a broad band which I receive a fixed IP and it doesn't change. I tryed in the TNSNames.ora to change the name of the host "name_of_my_machine" to the IP and didn't work too.
    Thanks.

  • Systemd / services start but do not listen to interfaces

    Hello,
In the course of migrating from initscripts to systemd (mixed systemd/sysvinit/initscripts), I am facing a strange behaviour with some services: squid, bind (named), dhcpd which start normally but do not listen to the useful interface. For instance, for named, netsat does not show  192.168.42.2:53 (which is is my LAN interface), despite the process is running (systemd status named). It seems that with systemd there is a change to the way available interfaces are reported to the services (for those services, I have not explicitly configured the interface to listen to).
If I revert back to initscripts only (removing  init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd from the kernel argument) everything is OK.
I am not running NetworkManager (relevant ?), my rc.conf is clean apart that I am still using the deprecated syntax (I need a bridge interface that NetworkManager cannot handle).
    eth0="dhcp"
    eth1="eth1 promisc"
    br1="br1 192.168.42.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.42.255"
    INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1 br1)
    Thanks for any help.

  • NAC AD-SSO service started but client isn't doing SSO

    Hi All,
We have NAC version 4.7(1) and we integrated it with Domain Controller on windows 2008. The integration is done and the service is started but the client (XP machine) access the domain without doing SSO then NAC Agent (Ver. 4.7.1.511) appears to start login with local DB only (there's no any other options rather than Local DB).
All Ports are opened to DC and CAS is listening to port 8910.
I attached some snapshots from NAM configuration.
One more thing, sometimes this error appears on NAC Agent "Invalid switch configuration-OOB Error:OOB client 00:17:42:BE:F3:CB/172.20.10.20 not found. • Windows service start and stop automatically

i'm trying to start windows service, which i installed via running beasvc with parameters. everything used to work fine, but yesterday somthing broke up: i press the start button in the control panel, service tries to start, but then it stops and the following message appears: "Weblogic 9.0 Workspace Service service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service." sometimes it stops right after starting without giving any messages.
any ideas what's wrong with it&

If I run from a cmd box it shows a successful start, however when I look at the services through the MMC it is not started. Basically, it starts successfully and then immediately shuts off stating the message in the original post. This is after and only after I apply sp7 for BEA 7. If I roll the server back to just v 7, I don't have a problem. I have downloaded V7 twice, and I get the same result. I have followed the install instructions to a T and still the same result. I have also tested removing the user created pages, and I get the same exact error telling me either it's a generic error or, SP7 has issues. The only reason we are rolling to SP7 is because of a security issue, but for the time being we have locked down the firewall. Any other suggestions? I have had my Maximo Administrator contact BEA, and MRO about this problem (Maximo is the only system we use web logic for) and they default to the answer that it is a java issue. That V7 is not supported above java 1.3.xxx which is bull because we were running version 1.4, due to a security issue with JVM 1.3 and all worked well. I have replicated the install with JVM 1.3xxx for BEA 7 sp 7, and that did not solve the problem either. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to try to get all the info out.
Thank you for you time and consideration

  • AD SSO Service Starts, But Client Not Performing SSO

    Hi.
I hope someone can help me with this issue.
I have a NAC environment in which NAM and NAS are operating in high availability mode. The NAS is in Out-of-band Virtual gateway mode, and I have configured AD-SSO.
Users in local database (NAM) can authenticate as normally.
My problem is that users can not authenticate via AD-SSO functionality.
The AD-SSO service is up and running, but when a user tries to login into the domain (with the AD credentials), the attempt is unsuccessful and the user gets the NAC agent. For testing purposes, I have allowed data traffic from untrusted side (unauthenticated roll) to the DC domain to any port.
Does any body can help me to find which my problem is?
I have gotten the logs from the command “more /perfigo/access/tomcat/logs/nac_server.log”. I can not see any traffic to port 8910 (but there is traffic to port 8905). Besides, if someone knows where can I find documentation which helps to interpret the logs, I will thanks to share it with me.
I am attaching a document with the details.
    I really appreciate your help.
    Regards.

    Hi Damaso,
For your reference, here is the full procedure of how the CAS should authenticate the user with AD SSO:
    1. The user logs in to Windows and obtains a Ticket-Granting Ticket (TGT) from the kerberos Authentication Service on AD.
[here the CAS is not involved]
    2. The Agent starts and the CAS instructs the Agent to get a kerberos Service Ticket (ST) for the SSO Service from the AD server.
    [here the CAS is involved]
    3. The user sends its Ticket-Granting Ticket (TGT) to request the Service Ticket (ST) from the kerberos Ticket-Granting Service (TGS) on AD.
[here the CAS is not involved, as long as all the communications from/to AD are allowed for the unauthenticated role]
This Service Ticket (ST) can be seen through the Microsoft Kerbtray.exe tool.
    4. The Agent sends the Service Ticket (ST) to the CAS for the user authentication and role mapping.
    [here the CAS is involved]
The Kerbtray.exe tool allows us to display the Service Ticket (ST) obtained by the user from AD, that will then be sent by the Agent to the CAS.
Could you confirm through Kerbtray whether the user is getting the right ST?
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17657
If a user does not have any Service Ticket (ST) at all there may be an issue with AD (considering the fact that the CAS is already allowing all the traffic to/from AD).
The user may either be unable to send the Ticket-Granting Ticket (TGT) to AD, or it may be unable to obtain the Service Ticket (ST) from AD.
The CAS during this phase is neither performing any actions nor blocking any traffic, since all the communications to/from AD are already fully open in the unauthenticated role.
    Regards,
    Fede

I do know that it is not certified, which was the case of 10g while Windows 7 was just launched. We worked on it and MADE it run on Windows 7 machines without having the same issue mentioned in the thread. As far right now, there are no startup scripts facilitating the automatic startup of Oracle services. Oh yeh, I will go ahead and do a re-install to confirm that nothing is wrong place :)

  • Please help: Linking from PDF to other PDF's that open in a new window... but NOT in full screen mode!?

    Hi All,
I have a project where a PDF is viewed in full screen mode when opened, from within this I wish to link to a variety of other PDF's.
Creating the links is simple, however I can not work out how to control the new window so that the new PDF opens with the toolbars and menus, ie not in full screen mode.
Any help would be apreciated, google is not my friend on this one.

    Hi Thanks for the response.
I thought I had, but what seemed to be happening was that the Linked PDF was
adopting the full screen property of the original PDF. I'll give it another
    go and let you know.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows 2003: instance not autostarting

I'm installing Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on two new Windows 2003 servers, and I'm facing the same problem, even after some full re-installations, on both of them; so this issue seems to be some kind of bug related to Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 and not just some random error.
When I run the installation it completes fine, and the database instance gets created and started without any trouble; I can connect to it using the console, the Java stand-alone Enterprise Manager, SQL Plus or anything else; it works when connecting from clients, too.
As soon as the server is rebooted, Oracle services start but it just seems the instance isn't actually started: any connection is refused by the listener which complains about not knowing the supplied instance name, and the oracle.exe process only uses about 11 MB of memory, which is a sure sign it isn't doing anything useful. The instance is configured to start, the registry keys are properly set, and everything works correclty after the installation... but stops working after the first server reboot.
I tried manually stopping and starting the services, in various orders; I tried re-installing Oracle various times; I tried deleting and re-creating the database instance, both at setup time or manually after the setup was done without creating an instance, I tried anything I could think of.
The only thing I didn't try was applying patch set 10.2.0.3 to the installation, but I just can't seem to find them, even though my company has an Oracle partnership; I find Metalink just a bit too confusing.
    Can someone please help?
    P.S.
The servers are actually VMWare ESX virtual servers, but I just can't imagine this to be the cause of the problem. The operating system on both servers is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (not R2), italian language, with service pack 2 and all the latest updates from Windows Update. The servers are not domain members and I'm running the installation using the local Administrator account.

I don't have a physical server available now, but I really can't even imagine how the underlying hardware, be it physical or virtual, could affect this behaviour. I'm talking about the Oracle service starting while the instance isn't, this is very unlikely to have any relationship with device drivers.

don't know if you already have this solved, but try using a default smbd.conf file in your /etc/ folder. if the windows services start then it is something in your configuration that must have been changed between the 10.4.7 and 10.4.2 updates.
you can slowly start adding pieces of your configuration back in or just rebuild it if your configuration is not too complicated.
if using a different config file doesnt work then seeing the issue with binding to the port makes me think that there is already another version of samba running on the server.

  • Windows service does not stop when DB is shutdown from SQL*Plus

    I have a 11g XE DB in a Windows 7 machine.
The installation has created a Windows service called OracleServiceXE. It's status is STARTED.
    I then login to SQLPLUS as sysdba and do a shutdown immediate;
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
Problem is, when I refresh the services, the OracleServiceXE is still showing as STARTED.
If I use the listener control to stop the listener the Windows service OracleXETNSListener changes status to BLANK.
    Why is this?

    tvCa-Oracle wrote:
That service is a prerequisite Windows service to be able to start the database, but it is not the status of the database itself.
When you do start the database, he may or may not start the service automatically (not sure there), but it is a needed service, for each database SID, on Windows.
If you want to know what it is, open Task Manager or Process Explorer, only start the service (not the database), and see which OS process is launched.
AFAIK, this is only on Windows, there's no comparable component on Linux/Unix for this.
The Windows service OracleServiceXE has c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin\ORACLE.EXE XE as the Parth to executable.
If I click on the Services tab in Task manager, then right-click the OracleServiceXE and click Go to process, it show the oracle.exe in the processes tab.
If stop it, the service, from the Windows service control, the oracle.exe disappears and we cannot login to the DB.
If we start the service from the windows service control, the oradim.exe appears, then a second later the oracle.exe appears. Once the DB status of the Windows service is STARTED, the oradim.exe disappears.
So, I can start and stop the oracle DB with the Windows service. But If I stop the DB from sql*plus the the service is not stopped....

  • Problem with running contract manager under WLS as windows service

I am having a problem running Contract Manager V13 as a windows service. I am using weblogic 10gR3 app server running under Windows 2008 sp2 (32 bit). The system functions just fine if run as an application from the command line. When I use the Oracle install contract manager as admin server (using jrockit) script from Oracle support, the service installs OK, but when starting I get:
+"The contract-mgr-svc-jrockit service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."+
Has anyone run into this problem of windows services not working? If so how did you fix it?
How are others starting contract manager automatically under Weblogic server, without having to do a manual startup?
I am dealing with this disclaimer from Oracle:
Disclaimer: Contract Management has not been officially tested with WebLogic as a Windows service. If experiencing a problem under this configuration that cannot be reproduced, while running as an application, the solution be to run Contract Management as an application.
and have been working with Oracle support for 2-3 weeks now on this problem without any luck.
Is the situation with using Windows services better if I use JBoss application server? Does Oracle officially support Windows service running with JBoss?
    Thanks in advance...

What account is the service running under? It may be that the service does not have access to the folders it needs, or does not have the right java CLASSPATH set.
Can you try running the service under the exact same account that successfully runs via the command line?
    Cheers,
    Daniel
