Oracle 10g Admin-I is done, what next?

Hi,
I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL. Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam and the go for an upgrade to 11g ?

Your question is not really clear. I'm going to take some guesses at what you mean and what you are asking
I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL.I'm guessing that by this you mean that you have passed two Oracle certification exams, presumably:
*1Z0-007     Introduction to Oracle9i SQL*
and
*1Z0-042     Oracle Database 10g: Administration I*
Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II I'm assuming that you are asking if you can take the following exam:
*1Z0-053     Oracle Database 11g: Administration II*
This exam is on a different track than 1Z0-042. The two cannot be combined for any certification.
or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam To complete the Oracle 10G certification, you must pass the following exam:
*1Z0-043     Oracle Database 10g: Administration II*
The exam itself is not instructor-lead, so I don't know what you mean by that. In addition to passing the test, you must attend instructor-lead training. The courses valid for the 10G track can be found here:

Oracle 10g RAC

Hi All,
I am a research student currently struggling to install Oracle 10g RAC on Windows OS.What i understand about a Oracle RAC database system is that it involves a configuration of multiple hosts or servers joined together with a clustering software and accessing the shared disk structures.What i also understand is that i need a CRS provided by Oracle for a Windows or Linux based RAC installation.
What i don't understand is for a Two node RAC system do i need a Third machine which has the shared storage device.If yes do i have to install a copy of Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition and CRS on the shared storage device moreover do i need to install a copy of Oracle 10g Enterprise edition on each of the nodes or just the clusterware is enough.

No, you do not need a third machine. You can even setup RAC as a single node on one machine! What you do need is to have some sort of cluster aware file system. Try looking at OCFS on Windows in your case.

Oracle 10g - Vista Business - Agent unreachable in EM

Hi,
I can't seem to get the agent to be seen from EM.
Here is my config:
Windows Vista Business - Oracle 10g R2
I have done the following:
- secured the dbconsole
- made sure that the OS user has admin rights & can log on as a batch job
- env. vars ORACLE_SID and EMHOSTNAME are set
The agent log shows no errors (start and shutdown successfully).
The emoms.log shows:

Oracle 10g Forms Download

Hi,
I need to download Oracle 10g Forms and Reports. What all will I have to download alongwith besides the Oracle Database 10g. Will I also have to dowload Applications Server for Forms, Web util services for forms etc. or anything else.

All you really need is Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4). You don't need the application server for testing - the developer suite already has a runtime and web server.
You don't need webutil for Forms but it may be useful if you are integrating with the client desktop.

Is it possible to install Oracle 10g database on a linux Os ?

Hello all,
I recently installed Fedora 14, and oracle 10g free edition, on my modest laptop.
Problem is , I can't upload any scripts, because as i recently learnt from my school teacher, Oracle only works smoothly with Internet explorer browser (i.e.).
I tried using programs like winetricks to download a linux version of i.e. but in this case Oracle doesn't even open its homepage.
-In a nutshell, does anyone know a possible way to work with oracle 10g , (or any alternative), that's fully functional on linux (fedora 14) ? Download, Install steps,etc.
All i need to do is upload simple SQL scripts, and practice my " select from...." commands.
-Is oracle linux a option ? and what is it?

the script is uploaded, but when i try to "run" it , nothing , blank page. no tables, nada. And given what I've said above, you can guess what this statement means. - grin -
My first guess was, well the teacher said " i.e. only " , so i tried installing i.e. , using winetricks, but i had a feeling i was going off-track, and that surely there must have been a much easier way.
Even Billy was more charitable toward your teacher than I feel. And when he is so wrong about something as simple as this, makes me wonder what else he is wrong about. And the quality of the teachers calls into question the quality of the school in general.
In fact, had I been told that by an instructor, I would make it a personal mission to prove him wrong. Not in front of the class (as much short term satisfaction as that may provide) but just by taking my laptop to his office and saying "let me show you something". One of my personal hot buttons is for someone who should know better to pronounce something as "won't work" when I've been doing it for so long and so easily as to just take it for granted.

Oracle 10g Corruption

High level issue - Oracle 10g with patch p4756409_10201. What seems to be happening is Oracle
gets into this weird state that even a stop and start of oracle or even a reboot of the system doesn't allow even the sysdba to connect to the db even
through sqlplus. Doesn't matter which node we try it on. Additionally, we will notice that as we are in this state before the reboot
even with our software shutdown we still have a few Oracle process (LOCAL=NO) still listed. I believe that means Oracle is hanging onto a connection for some reason which
could explain the memory corruption. I wouldn't think that anything we could do would cause Oracle to crash but I guess I'm naive in this area.
The trace files don't tell you much except for those great ORA errors that state "yes, oracle error go figure it out".
The ORA error that is seen in the trace files is
ORA-07445 exception encountered cor dump [kponprp()+59][SIGSEGV] [address not mapped to object][0x0][][]
According to what I've read this issue is suppose to be fixed in 10g.
Any help or guideance would greatly be appreciated.

That function call is not yet listed as known issue with Metalink ORA-07445 look up tool.
I guess its time to contact Oracle support.

Blank space updatation to Collection field in Oracle 10g

we have the Oracle 9i database in the dev environment and Oracle 10g in Production environment.
In Oracle 9i, the below scenario works find, but in Oracle 10g it won'nt, The scenerio is ,

set test_collection = ' '; -- works fine in Oracle 9i , but it wont works in Oracle 10g,
Update tabel1
set test_collection = null; -- works in both the versions.

Problem with do click on a field - Oracle 10g form - UNIX

Hello, friends.
I nedd a help. I have a problem with a Oracle 10g form when it was executed in UNIX environment.
The problem is that when I do click with the mouse in a different field, doesn't lead me to the other field. That is, don't let me to do click on a different field than the initial field of the form. Just work with TAB or ENTER.
Would you tell me what I can check?

10g Admin OCA Path- 1Z0-042

Hi all,
I am happy to tell you that I have cleared 1Z0-047 exam. Now I need to prepare for 1Z0-042, I have some queries regarding the same.
1. For 1Z0-047 exam, I studied on my own and could manage to clear the examination (not to boast myself, since I am working, I dint find time to attend classes and also my friend had asked me to study on my own for this exam).
Can I also study for 1Z0-042 on my own and clear the exam or is it required to go for coaching?
2. I am from Bangalore and here except at Oracle University, none of the training institutes will conduct classes in 10g ( I am not sure about this, if anyone knows any training institutes (other than Oracle university) who conduct classes in 10g Admin/1Z0-042 exam and fees being minimal, please reply with the address and phone number).
So can I still opt for Oracle 9i admin classes and write Oracle 10g admin exam?
3. If I study on my own, is the prescribed book by Chip Dawes sufficient?

You can study for ANY Oracle exam on your own. (except perhaps OCM exams, if you get that far you should know what its about yourself).
However for some Certifications you may have to attend an authroized hands-on course from an authorized provided.
This does not affect you with regard to 1z0-042 for 10g DBA OCA; but DOES affect you if you go on for 10g DBA OCP.

The simple answer is No. This will not get you a 10g OCP certification (and it wont get you a 9g OCP certification).
If you take a 9i authorized WDP program you will need to take 1z0-031 for your 9i DBA OCA (you already have 1z0-047).
You can then take 1z0-032 and 1z0-033 for your 9i DBA OCP. (A properly AUTHORIZED WDP class from an authorized provider will count as hands-on).
As a 9i DBA OCP you can then take 1z0-040 to attain a 10g DBA OCP with no further hands on courses. (You could also have taken 1z0-042+1z0-043 as an alternative to 1z0-040).
However if you simply pass 1z0-042+1z0-043 and do not present a course from the 10g DBA OCP approved course list you will not receive a 10g DBA OCP certificate.

The Dawes authors or part authors many books; I assume in this case you mean the sybex book wrt the 10g DBA OCA exam. This book is probably adequate for the exam, though you are advised also to seek other authorized certification-safe material and traiing and to become familiar with online documentation etc. Please rmember the topics have changed slightly since the book was written, the exam is now 10gR2 based; the book is 10gR1, though changes are not great.

1) Locate a suitable authorized WDP program provider, take the classes, and take the 9i DBA exams and to obtain a 9i DBA OCP then take further exam(s) to obtain a 10g DBA OCP.
or
2) Continue taking 1z0-042 and 1z0-043; but be very aware the 10g DBA OCP certification will not be obtained until you attend a hands on class. Please realise this can be expensive so locate courses that may before embarking. Remember that courses such as 10g Dataguard administation are 3 days courses and are cheaper. These are best attended at Oracle University. Also be aware 10g classes are being gradually replaced by 11g classes; so 10g classes may become rarer.
(Please be aware there appear to have been some examples of the WDP programme being delivered badly. You are recommended to try to contact previous students to confirm the course is delivered well by the institute you choose).
Please be aware at a WDP you a limited to a maximum of 6 hours tution a week MAXIMUM.

Copy of a DB in Oracle 10g Express edition

I´m trying to copy a DB in Oracle 10g xe, bu i don´t have success. How do i can copy all the tables and the schema of a DB to other DB?

Are you going from an XE install to an XE install on another host? XE will only allow one database to run at a time, and if you want to keep the original instance intact you'll need a couple extra steps.

I'm preparing my first OCA exam ; Oracle Database 10g: Administration I. I 'm doing my preparation basically from 2 books ; Sybex Book OCA-Exam and All-in-One Exam Guide book.
Both books 're based on the first release of Oracle 10g.
My questions 're :
- What's the diffrence between Oracle 10g R2 vs Oracle 10g R1?
- What's New in Oracle 10g R2 (parameters, default parameters values, features...)?

Well satish has given link for the difference in both the versions. I shall add to this that at this moment of writing,there is not anything which makes the exams depend on the release 2.The sybex books would be good enough but I shall recommend to attend Oracle Univ training for the same.
You can go ahead with the exam by preparing from these books, no issues would be there.

PCTFREE setting for index in Oracle 10g R2

Is PCTFREE parameter obsolete in oracle 10g R2? I don't see any reference to this paramerer in oracle documentation:

PCTFREE is still relevent even in ASSM. (that you are using DMT means that you are not using ASSM, but LMT could be MSSM !)
I couldn't find PCTFREE in the Administrator's Guide but it is still very much present in the SQL Reference
