    We need this setup to match the other two 32bit linux DB server boxes so that we can use DB cloning and Transportable Tablespace feautres between these three linux machines.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    PS: I did raise a request to support and waiting for the update.
    Thanks,

    Thanks Girish. But all my findings says NO NO and NO.
    From http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
    Certify - Product Version and Other Selections: Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition On Linux x86-64 (AMD64/EM64T)
    General Notes For Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition On Linux x86-64 (AMD64/EM64T):
    Processor Chip Information:
    Linux x86-64, support on AMD64/EM64T and Intel Processor Chips that adhere to the x86-64 architecture with supported Linux releases.
    "Running Oracle 32-bit on AMD64/EM64T (64-bit OS) is not supported . "
    Oracle 32-bit running on AMD64/EM64T with a 32-bit OS is supported, refer to platform Linux x86 for more information on product availability.
    Note: As Ivan confirmed EM64T is mark for Intel 64 (x86-64) processors.
    Even the metalink Note: 182999.1 says...
    "A 32-bit application will work on both a 32-bit and 64-bit O/S, whereas a 64-bit application will only work on a 64-bit O/S."
    but the same articel says
    "Note: These statements do not necessarily apply to Oracle on Windows O/S's, Itanium or AMD64/EM64T based Platforms. See Certify for specific information."
    and then I got update from Support. Even they Say....
    "No it is not suggested that you run Oracle at 32 bits for a Linux X86_64 platform. This would not be a good idea"
    I guess I need to sit with my senior DBAs and SA tomorrow to find the path forward...
    Thanks all.

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm

    i have being trying to install oracle 10g re 2 on unbreakable linux.after installation i open the url for bot em/isqlplus and it works.but after restarting the system i type the command
    emctl start dbconsole
    it says command not found
    pls help me any 1.

    There is so much you aren't telling us. For example, if you created a user "oracle" to be the Oracle software owner and install the Oracle software with, there will be a directory named /home/oracle. Inside this directory will be a file called .bash_profile. You can put lines like export ORACLE_HOME=, export ORACLE_BASE= and export ORACLE_SID= so that your environment is set up when you login. Jeff Hunter has a lot of information like this on his website. Check it out.

  • Is it possible to install 32 bit oracle db on a 64 bit linux server?

    Is it possible to install 32 bit oracle 10g db on a 64 bit linux server rhel 4.
    thanks in advance,

    Yes, it is possible, but you can perfectly install the 64 bits version on RHEL4. However you will have more trouble on unsupported OS... so it's useful that you can install the 32 bits version.

  • 10g migration from 32 bit linux to 64 bit-synchronizing appsutil

    I am currently attempting to migrate my TEST instance from a 32 bit Linux server to a 64 bit Linux server. In a nutshell, I have prepared the new 64 bit Linux host for running the Oracle database. I have also already run adpreclone.pl on source instance apps and db tiers. I am following a number of documents, mostly from Oracle but a few from different blogs.
    In following http://levicorp.com/2010/04/08/migration-oracle-10g-db-from-linux-32bit-to-linux-64bit/
    I will list the first 5 steps. I am stuck on step 5.
    The steps are :
    1. Backup source datafile of the database.
    2. Copy the backup datafile to destination server.
    3. Install the Oracle Software in destination server.
    4. Install patchset 10.2.0.4.0 for Linux 64 bit (Patch# 6810189)
    5. Do Cloning database, create control file
    The new 64 bit Linux server has the 10g database software only. So, on the target server I looked to run adcfgclone.pl , but I noticed that in the new $ORACLE_HOME there was no appsutil folder. What I did next was copy that directory from the source database server over to the target server. I have been unable to run adcfgclone.pl on target server against the db tier. Fails with:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at java.util.Hashtable.put(Unknown Source)
         at oracle.apps.ad.clone.util.CloneCleanser.doMigrate(CloneCleanser.java:98)
         at oracle.apps.ad.context.CloneContext.doClone(CloneContext.java:710)
         at oracle.apps.ad.context.CloneContext.main(CloneContext.java:5093)
    RC-50004: Error occurred in CloneContext:
    So I can't help but wonder, was even supposed to do that - copy from one server to another? Is the appsutil directory and its contents somewhat custom relative to the host it's on?

    Please post the details of the application release, database version and OS.
    Are you migrating the database only?
    If this is an EBS database then the supported ways are using export/import of transportable tablespaces.
    If you are on 11i with 10gR2 database please refer to:

    If you are on R12 with 10gR2 database please refer to:

  • Connect from Windows Client to Oracle 10g for Windows 64-bit

    Have an environment currently running Oracle 10g 32-bit on Windows 2000 Standard, and need to migrate to Oracle 10g 64-bit for Windows. Users connect to the 10g 32-bit database using the Oracle Client for Windows 10g loaded on remote PC's. If we migrate to the Oracle 10g 64-bit on Windows 2003 Server Enteprise Edition 64-bit, what type of client do I have to install on the PC's to access the Oracle 10g 64-bit database?
    Any ehlp/insight will be greatly appreciated.
    Eduardo in Michigan

    In addition to install 32-bit Oracle client to 32-bit Windows OS, you need to know whether your application is compiled to run in 32-bit or 64-bit.
    This is critical because 32-bit application can not see 64-bit Oracle ODBC and OLE DB provider.
    For example, MS SQL Server 2005 uses 32-bit DTS, and SSIS, which needs 32-bit Oracle client
    If you don't know, get a copy of both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle client, and try one-by-one to know for sure. Please be aware that if regsvr32.exe in the Windows has been overwritten by older software installation, it won't register some DLL properly, and Oracle ODBC, or OLE DB won't show up as well

  • Oracle 10g Express Edition / 64-bit client

    hi all,
    I have Oracle 10g express edition installed on a remote Vista/32-bit machine. I installed the XE Client on a Vista/64-bit and got the following error:
    UnsatistifiedLinkError: ocijdbc10.dll: Can't load IA 32-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform.
    So, I tried installing the Instant Client (64-bit) and I'm getting a similiar error:
    UnsatistifiedLinkError: ocijdbc10.dll: Can't load IA 64-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform.
    Using the XE Client, I'm able to login using sqlplus. Anyone have any ideas ??

    Hi Jim, unless something has changed recently - the installation instructions for XE specifically state it is for a 32-bit windows operating system. Also, it does not mention using Vista. If you have access to the 10g Express forum they may have more information there for you.

  • Oracle 10g R 10.2 for Linux x86-64 - /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock problem

    Hi All,
    During installation - Oracle Database Configuration Assistance, I have got below error and thus I stuck. As per Metalink note 293988.1, this will be resolved if I do [root@localhos]# echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock . But problem is when I do this because I dont have /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock file in my system, it giving ¨bash: /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock: No such file or directory¨ error. So I am unable to get rid of this error. I also set SELinux Default and Current mode as permissible and rebooted it.
    No use, Its giving same error.

    From what I can gather form your post, the ORA-27125: Unable to create shared memory segment is probably the result of:
    a) not enough physical memory available.
    b) /dev/shm not configured properly.
    c) kernel parameters are not set according to Oracle requirements.
    Since this is happening during the installation of Oracle I suggest to check the SHMMAX kernel parameter. This is all mentioned in the pre-installation steps. Oracle 11g will actually check these kernel parameters prior to installing. Not sure about 10g now, which you are trying to install.
    The most common, easiest way to prepare the system for Oracle RDBMS is to install the "oracle-validated" package. If you don't have access to ULN, you can setup public yum.
    http://public-yum.oracle.com/ Then you can simply type as the root user: yum install oracle-validated

  • Oracle 10g Installation on Red Hat Linux

    Hi
    I am trying to install Oracle 10g (Downloaded from Oracle Site) in a Linux Installation. I have checked with the following command about the Linux Version
    # cat /etc/issue and the output is :
    Red Hat Linux Release 7.1 (Seawolf)
    Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
    Then I am giving #uname -r and the output is
    2.4.2-2
    Now Oracle Installation Guide for 10g for Linux is saying that
    if the errata level is less than 25 on x86 system then install latest Kernel Updates.
    Please Let me know from where I can get the Latest Kernel Updates appropriately and what I need to do to put that patch into Linux so that I can smoothly install the Oracle 10g.
    Thanks and regards.
    Keshav Tripathy

    Jer is absolutely right.... just changing the values in oraparm.ini to reflect your kernel distribution will work for you.
    For example the file contains:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3
    now to add your linux into it just check your version by issuing the command #uname -r
    in my case the output was "2.4.20-8smp". I just appended redhat before this value and entered in the oraparm.ini file.
    The new ini file looks like:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3,redhat-2.4.20-8smp
    [Linux-redhat-2.4.20-8smp-optional]
    TEMP_SPACE=80
    SWAP_SPACE=150
    MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
    Now you are all set to install. I assume that all other pre-requisites have been fulfilled.

    Express Edition is available for 32bit architecture only. You may download regular database software (Standard/Enterprise Edition) , but pay attention to deviating licence conditions. You find these on the download page.
    Additionally Ubuntu is not supported, despite of this you may refer to

    Choose the Linux distribution that makes you feel most comfortable. At the Linux level, there is very little difference between fedora core 4 and SUSE linux 9.2 (if there is, they are not allowed to use the label Linux). At the 'other stuff thrown in' level, which makes it a distro, you need to decide which is going to make you happiest.
    In any case, installing Oracle in Linux means you need to have the prerequisites set up. That means a specific version of the kernel, a specific set of libraries and a specific set of installed applications. If you have those, you follow a specific set of steps to install.
    Werner Puschitz helps you figure out the specific prerequisites at ttp://www.puschitz.com ... if you can not understand the prereqs and steps, then you might want to spend more time learning Linux basic admin until you are more comfortable otherwise you will get into some trouble down the road.
