Win32 Oracle 10g Database Server Installation problems
Hello,
I have recently installed the Oracle 10g Database Server for Win32. The installation seemed to be successful. I used the Enterprise option and all the suggested defaults. Ihave the following services installed and started after the installation:

o OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus [started]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerEncapsulator [manual]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerMasterAgent [manual]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener [started]

I go to the DOS console and type:
c:> sqlplus scott/tiger@ORCL
and I get:
ERROR: ORA-28000: the account is locked
I did this right after I restarted my computer.
When I use the Enterprise Manager at:
http://localhost:5500/em/
I get for ORCL:
Status: Status Pending
Status Pending Since: Unavailable
Seems that I can never get the database started properly?! When I press the Startup/Shutdown button I get:
Current Status: open
This is the correct current database status, although it doesnot match the current status in the sitemap page
What does this mean? Do you think this may contain the clue to the answer to this problem?
When I restart the Database I get the same status: unavailable.
I need your help to resolve this problem. The alternative is to revert back to Oracle 9i DB Server. Thank you in advance.

sqlplus /nolog
connect / as sysdba

Oracle 10g release 2 installation problem on XP
Hi
I have some strange problems during installing oracle on my windows xp system.
Everything goes fine until the DB configuration assistant starts to perform its tasks.
The error is 'ORA-01919 XDBADMIN role does not exist'. I`ve searched the web but found nothing which could solve my problem. I think that the problem appears because of some security policy problems. Before installation i had created logon ID oracledba and assigned it to ora_dba group , later i had added the log as batch job priviledge to the oracledba. Please help if You know what may be a reason of my problems.
Regards
t.o.Hello
Thanks for response. In both cases the problem is the same. It appears during instance creation. First XDBADMIN role doesn`t exist , then some error about unsufficient priviledges(there are proper usesr in usergroups attached ). I also tried to install it by deleting loopback adapter , disconnecting the computer from the network etc. Every attempt was failure. I`ve noticed that during prereq. check i get an error about service packs, error code OUI-15038 which is telling to install recommended service back because there is exception on string 'Pac'. I don`t understand it because I have an XP sp2 with lastest upgrades & service packs.
p.s.
please forgive me my english, it isn`t my native language. -

Does Oracle 10G R2 support installation on Windows 2003 Domain Controller?
Does Oracle 10g R2 support installation on Windows 2003 Domain Controller? I remember that 10g R1 had issues with the DC? Is it still the case. Does it work now?
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
RaghavWe have Oracle 10g R2 running on a Windows 2003 domain controller. It was not a domain controller when Oracle was installed. The domain was created after installation. (I don't recommend that procedure. I spent a long day fixing the installation after they configured the domain.) If Oracle is unhappy with being on a domain controller, it has not shown it yet.

Oracle 10g express - post installation
Hi All !
I installed Oracle 10g exp. on my linux system (fedora core 4) yesterday. I am very new to both the linux os and oracle db. So I'm sure I messed up somewhere, though I can't figure out where....if anyone could help me....here is the problem
installation was successful...I configured Oracle db with default http port:8080, listener: 1521 and the password.
after installation I don't see oracle icons on my redhat menu. I tried opening in the browser with this
http://(hostname):8080/htmldb and it does not bring up anything. I may be doing something wrong in looking up the hostname...here is the listener.log file....I'd appreciate if any1 could tell me what is wrong.
Thank you,

Linux Error: 99: Cannot assign requested addressI encountered this issue on my laptop and realized it was because I installed Oracle XE when connected via DHCP. I never manually specified a hostname so my install was burned with crazy DHCP hostnames which of course change every time I get onto my work network. So to fix it, I did the following:
1. Hard set a hostname (Fedora Core 6 /etc/sysconfig/network + hostname command)
2. Updated tnslistener.ora and tnsnames.ora to use the new hostname
3. force-reload
All good. JDBC connects, "service oracle-xe status" is good and the home page is back. -

Hi all,
I just installed oracle 10G in my fedora 15 system.Installation was successful and i installed it by using 'rpm -ivh packagename'.I have SQLPlus working fine, but i am unable to open the database home page on the browser. It displays 'Unable to connect'.I checked status of port 8080 and it was up and running.
What could be the possible remedy?
Please help me out.
Thanks..........OMG--I JUST FIXED THIS!!
I've been looking for days on these posts and saw a lot of frustration and finally got it.
I'm coming from your 'average guy' approach, so I don't get all the 'port:8080' etc. stuff...
I just read the message on my IE explore page when it couldn't load it, and under 'more information' and it said...

Installing Oracle 10g on XP SP2 problems. No Database connectivity.. but
I use oracle 10g at work and have completed the training. I do not know how to configure ORacle to work at my home PC using either XP with SP2 or Vista with SP1. I got it all installed but it says I am not connected to Oracle database. I have also successfully installed it incl the Microsoft Loopback adapter. The database name is the same as when I installed: orcl how then do I set it up to read the sample schemas as in SQL Developer I do not know what is the connection name, user Name and password... which I believe I have both. How do I set up the Data Source (ODBC). Everything was installed as Default. SQL Developer and iSQl Plus starts ok but no database is shown to be connected. Strangely Express works fine but only using the Web interface. Trying to use SQL Developer but was unable to....
Phillip
Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.I recommend you read '2 Days DBA' from the documentation, this manual answer already many questions. And simply follow 'See the Installation Guide for more details ...'. Start simply , not with several client tools at the same time.
By the way if your home PC has a Windows Home Edition , that's not supported, neither for XP nor Vista.

Obviously, I'm missing something.
Any guesses on this?
Thanks

THD ConsultingOk, I found the problem....
I noticed that a lot of swap area was used (swapon -s).
The docs say to have 1 GB for swap. I had 3 swap areas totalling about .25 GB.
So I added another GB for swap and started the installation over. This time, I monitored the swap areas (vmstat and swapon -s). Swap used got to almost .50 GB. The installation continued to the end. (almost)
At least this problem is solved. The next one is that the "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" failed.
I'm not sure how much of a problem that is....
I haven't installed. CRS, CCD or Client yet. I didn't think they would be installed automatically.
Anyway, I will see how far I get without it.
(Once I get most of the way thru this, my plans are to wipe everything out, and start with a fresh, clean slate.)
Thanks

I am on my last attempt here if there are no other concrete solutions. Guess I will have to wait for 11g to make it to the Windows environment. Any other previous version of 10g that I can try???? -

i started creating database control repository, when i saw emca running i had seen repository created successfully , but sysman user is not created at this point of time. Then i looked into emca_repos_create_2008-04-10_11-57-03-AM.log file but the file is unable to open because it's looking for file emreposcre.sql which creates sysman user in this location /opt/db/oracle/product/10.2.0/sysman/admin/emdrep/sql/
i feel while installing the database these files are not created....? or i need to run any scripts before running emca ....?
give me some inputs to this thread.
Thanks,
nil

Oracle 10G Java PreparedStatement.setString problem
I am using jboss application server on a windows XP operating system. I installed Oracle 10G production release and am using the jdk 1.4.2.
When I do a preparedStatment.setString method call to bind the code it does not appear to be binding the variable correctly. I don't get any exceptions it just returns nothing in the resultset. It's like it's binding it but not correctly so it distorts the query results.
I read the 10G known bug list and found something stating this:
* If the database character set is AL32UTF8, you may see errors
under the following circumstances:
- accessing LONG and VARCHAR2 datatypes.
- binding data with setString() and setCharacterStream().
I then tried preparedStatement.setInt to see if this worked and it does without a problem. It appears to be the setString method. I then tried doign a workaround and using setObject instead. Also does not work. I checked the database character set and it appears I have this:
NLS_CHARACTERSET
WE8MSWIN1252
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET
AL16UTF16
I'm very confused as this is a big problem if I can't use the setString to bind. Has anyone else found this to be the case. Any workarounds or advice for fixing?
Thanks in advance!
LCharacter interpretation is up to the client- as long as the database character set can handle a specific character, the client software is responsible for accepting '<char code>' from the database and rendering it as the proper '<char>'. If the client doesn't know the code point '<char code>' you get the inverted question mark.
Are you running the WE (Western European) charset or did you install the Universal one? A quick way to check that is to do a control file trace backup and check the create controlfile SQL generated ...
$ sqlplus /nolog;
show parameter user_dump;
... --- s.b. ...admin/XE/udump
alter database backup controlfile to trace;
And check the ...udump directory, view the latest .trc file- CREATE CONTROLFILE ... ; if its universal should be:
CHARACTER SET AL32UTF8

Oracle 10g Companion Product installation
while installing Oracle 10g companion product HTTP server. Does one have to delete the oracle_home variable from the registry ? (as seems like in the instructions.)
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B13693_02/install.htm#BABJGGJH
3.3 Installing Oracle Database 10g Products
You must install Oracle Database 10g Products in an existing Oracle Database 10g release 1 (10.1) Oracle home.
See Also:
"Products Available in the Oracle Database 10g Products Installation Type"
To install Oracle Database 10g Products, follow these steps:
Log on as a member of the Administrators group to the computer on which to install Oracle components.
If you are installing on a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) or a Backup Domain Controller (BDC), log on as a member of the Domain Administrators group.
Delete the ORACLE_HOME environment variable if it exists.
Refer to your Microsoft online help for more information about deleting environment variables.
Note:
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable is automatically set in the registry. Manually setting this variable prevents installation.
"I have nothing under system variable but there is oracle_home Key in the registry under oracle. Deleting that key would interfere with the oracle database processes?. The HTTP Installation does let me execute mod_plsql process even after setting up DAD in DAD.Conf, as i was able to do in Oracle 9I.
