Oracle 10g book 'A Beginners Guide'

I am trying to work through this book from Oracle Press/McGraw-Hill/Osbourne ISBN 0-07-223078-9 but it does not come with the sample data. I have spoken to Oracle in Australia and they say it is not actually an Oracle book, just their name all over it. Does anyone have any idea on where I can get the sample data?
TIA Regarsd Peter

Hi Jens, what McGraw Hill could have put in their book somewhere (preferably at the start) was that the sample data they were using is from the 10g sample data base that you can chose to install at setup time. The next problem was that some of the tables are public synonyms so I was not necessarily able to see them as tables depending on whop I was logged on as. (as opposed to using desc) The download URL you pointed to is actually the sqls etc but anyway I have it figured and going like a rocket. Thanks again for your input and I hope it helps some others.
Regards Peter.

  • ORACLE 10g BOOKS

    Hi Gurus,
Kindly suggest me few oracle 10g books.
    Regards,
    Umair

It depends on your level of oracle knowledge, oracle documentation is getting better release by release. With Oracle by Example series it is getting much easier then past to learn new things about oracle. I suggest first oracle documentation and then:
    For general
Oracle 10g complete reference much much better then last 2 editions.
and for specific many are out. Tell specific topic, technology or tool then it will be easy to suggest.

  • How to archive and Purge in Oracle 10g based on data

    Hi,
Our requirement is that based on some rules stored in static tables we want to perform Archiving, purging and compression of data in Oracle 10g.
Can anyone guide me to proper information material for how to go about this?
    Thanks!
    Avinash.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the information.
But this traditional way of doing is archiving is for maintenance and backup operations.
We want to have this process online, without taking db offline. In this case will this approach work?
In our case, the rules can be like -
    1. For table 'A', if rows exceed 10Million, then start archiving of the data for that table.
    2. For table 'B', if data is older than 6 motnhs start archiving of the data for that table.
    3. Archiving should be on for 15 minutes only after that should pause, and should resume whenever user wants to resume.
    4. Archiving should start on specified days only... ETC...

  • Oracle 10g XE in tomcat 5.5 through JSP or Servlet

Hello iam very new user of tomcat, oracle 10g .Will you please guide how to set environment variables and any other modifications to be done to run a JSP or Servlet including JDBC(oracle 10gXE) connection in tomcat5.5 for windows Xp.
    Please tell me in detail........................................

I am sure that one can set up SELinux 'properly'.
Everyone I talk to about SELinux tells me that it has become more detailed and much more 'secure' in that past years, and that probably explains why Oracle worked easily in FC3 and not so easily now. The added power also requires added configuration, which some have described to me as 'somewhat more involved than sendmail.cf'
The documentation is at http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/ for those who wish to learn about the configuration capabilities. I'm sure that Google will also provide tutorials.

  • Guide to Oracle 10g - 64 bit version download

I have the book "Guide to Oracle 10g" for my Oracle class and there are 2 discs in the back. These contains a 32bit version that will not install on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I was wondering if someone could please point out the file(s) I need to download so I can install this on my computer to do homework on. The instructor informed us that the version on the disc allowed a computer to act as both the client and server.
    Thanks in advance.

Your first link points to the page where the second link points to a file. Is that the only file I need?My first link points to all Oracle Database download files (11gR2, 11gR1, 10gR2).
From the second link you can download 10.2.0.3 -- http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/10203vista-087538.html
As mentioned in the second link, you will have to "After installing Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3), install the 10.2.0.4 patchset or higher, which can be downloaded from My Oracle Support. Oracle Database 10g Release 2 is supported on Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 with the 10.2.0.4 patchset or higher. If installing on Windows 7, then 10.2.0.5 patchset or higher must be used.". Please note you need to have a valid username/password and CSI number to access the download page from My Oracle Support (MOS) website -- https://support.oracle.com
If you have access to MOS website, you can find the list of patches (10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5) in (Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List [ID 730365.1]).
    Thanks,

  • Beginners Guide Oracle Sample Database

    Hi!
In the "Oracle Database 10g: A Beginer's Guide" in Chapter 2 a sample database is discussed with the tables customers, products, sales and costs. You need have it to try it the examples. How can I obtain it?
I have Oracle10gRelease2(10_2_0_1_0) installed on Windows XP Pro SP2.
    Thanks,
    Hans

    Hi
    What is the link of:
    "Oracle Database 10g: A Beginer's Guide"?
Maybe this is only a sample schema in a database, not a sample database.
Create a new one and you will have this sample schema and tables.

  • Recommended books for Oracle 10g

I'm new to this group, so my apologies in advance if this is not the appropriate group for this question. If it is not, please steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
Here's my situation: I'm currently a Microsoft SQL Server developer and have been for about 6 years, so I'm fairly conversant with SQL. Our company is in the process of purchasing an application that runs under Oracle 10g, and I need to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can about 1) being the Oracle DBA for our (small) company, and 2) developing in Oracle SQL.
Are there any specific books some of you would recommend for my particular situation (beginning level Oracle user, intermediate/advanced in SQL)? Any and all advice/suggestions/help will be gratefully accepted.
    Thanks in advance --
    Carl

First thing I would recommend is going in the OTN and download the 2 day dba article
and the top 20 Oracle 10g features
    Top 20:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/10gdba/index.html
    2 day dba:
