  • ORACLE 10g generate reports for audit trail

    HELP ORACLE 10 g
    I am a beginner about the oracle 10g
    anybody can guide me how to start with
    generate reports for audit trail , top ten url
    , no of hits in the portlets ......
    =(
    thank you ....

    In a nutshell:
    1 - You will have to have the portal database schema as your data source.
    2 - You will have to design a target database schema with the target data bjects (tables, dimensions and fact tables - cubes) where the data will be loaded for reporting purposes.
    3 - Then you will have to model the loading process by defining mappings (mappings will translate into generated code for the load process) and process flows to run the mappings in the right order etc.
    4 - You will deploy the sources, targets and processing entities to the target schema.
    5 - You will run the deployed code periodically as needed and maintain the source, target and loading entities which might change with time.
    One observetion - OWB does not produce reports. It creates and maintains the data infrastructure for a reporting/analysis system (a data warehouse, data mart or an operational data store). To produce reports (for example, the top-10 report mentioned by you), you will have to run a reporting tool on top of the data structures created and maintained by OWB.

  • Guide to Oracle 10g - 64 bit version download

    I have the book "Guide to Oracle 10g" for my Oracle class and there are 2 discs in the back. These contains a 32bit version that will not install on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
    I was wondering if someone could please point out the file(s) I need to download so I can install this on my computer to do homework on. The instructor informed us that the version on the disc allowed a computer to act as both the client and server.
    Thanks in advance.

    Your first link points to the page where the second link points to a file. Is that the only file I need?My first link points to all Oracle Database download files (11gR2, 11gR1, 10gR2).
    From the second link you can download 10.2.0.3 -- http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/10203vista-087538.html
    As mentioned in the second link, you will have to "After installing Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3), install the 10.2.0.4 patchset or higher, which can be downloaded from My Oracle Support. Oracle Database 10g Release 2 is supported on Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 with the 10.2.0.4 patchset or higher. If installing on Windows 7, then 10.2.0.5 patchset or higher must be used.". Please note you need to have a valid username/password and CSI number to access the download page from My Oracle Support (MOS) website -- https://support.oracle.com
    If you have access to MOS website, you can find the list of patches (10.2.0.4/10.2.0.5) in (Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List [ID 730365.1]).

  • Archiving Best Practices / How To Guide for Oracle 10g - need urgently

    Hi,
    I apologize if this is a silly question. But i need a step by step archiving guide for Oracle 10g and cannot find any reference document. I am in a rather remote part of S.E. Asia & can't seem to find DBA's with the requisite experience to do the job properly. I have had 1 database lock up this week at a big telecoms provider and another one at a major bank is about to go. I can easily add LUNS & re-structure mirrors etc at the Unix level [ i am a Unix engineer ]
    but i know that is not the long run solution. I am sure the 2 databases i am concerned about have never been archived properly.
    This is the sort of thing DBA's must do all the time. Can someone point me to the proper documentation so i can do a proper job and archive a few years data out of these databases. I do not want to do a hack job. At least i can clone the databases and practise on the clones first before i actually do production.
    -thanks very much

    I'm not so sure this is a general database question, as it would be specific to an application and implementation, and as the technology has changed, the database options to support it has too.
    So for example, if you have bought the partitioning option, there may be some sensible procedure for partitioning off older data.
    Things may depend on whether you are talking about an OLTP, a DW, a DSS, or mixed systems.
    DBA's do it all the time because the requirements are different everywhere. Simply deleting a lot of data after copying the old data to another table (as some older systems do) may just wind up giving you performance problems scanning swiss-cheesed data.
    Some places may not archive at all, if they've separated out OLTP from reporting. If all the OLTP stuff is accessed through indices, all the older stuff just sits there. The reporting DB may only have what is needed to be reported on, or be on a standby db where range scans are sufficient to ignore old data. There there's exadata, which has it's own strengths.
    Best Practices have to be on similar enough systems, otherwise they are a self-contradiction.
    Get yourself someone who understands your requirements and can evaluate the actual problem. No apology needed, it is not a silly question. But what is silly is assuming what the problem is with no evidence.

  • JDeveloper 10G (BPEL Designer): how to create db connection to Oracle Lite

    I want to create a JDeveloper database connection to the Oracle Lite database installed with JDeveloper 10G BPEL Designer, but haven't been able to find any info on the subject.
    Can anyone point me to some info or walk me through it?
    Regards

    To connect JDeveloper 10g to an Oracle Lite database, you will need to follow this setup.
    1. Create an ODBC entry for the Oracle Lite database. If you have installed Oracle Lite 10g Mobile Development Kit, you should have a copy of POLITE.ODB pre-installed. Check your ODBC.ini, or run Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC), and follow the polite entry pattern. If you create a new Oracle Lite database, you must create a matching enrty in the ODBC configuration file.
    2. In JDeveloper, create a new connection for your Oracle Lite database.
    The Connection Name should match your entry in ODBC for ease of reading.
    The Connection Type should be Oracle Lite.
    The Username is system.
    The Password is xxx.
    The Deploy Password box is checked.
    The Datasource Name must match the ODBC entry exactly.
    Leave the rest of the fields as is.
    Test your new connection.
    Enjoy.

  • Oracle 9i to 10g for Developers

    Hi,
    Can anyone point out what are the key features of Oracle 10g which were not available in 9i or were modified from 9i. I am looking from PLSQL Developer's perspective.
    I have found a few here:
    1. Introduction of FLASHBACK VERSION QUERY
    2. Change in QUERY OPTIMIZER -- Now CBO only works with ALL_ROWS by default
    3. DBMS_SCHEDULER is new addition -- can we execute multiple procudures parallely here?
    4. "Group By" does not perform "Order by" internally which was one of the features in Oracle 9i.
    ... Add more.
    I know there are lot of changes i.e. datapump, ADDM, ASM from DBA's perspective but please restrict your discussion to Developer's level.

    Try this:
      OracleDataSource ods = new OracleDataSource();
      ods.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:test/test@localhost:1521:irko");
      Connection con = ods.getConnection();
      // set trace parameters
      String []metrics = new String[OracleConnection.END_TO_END_STATE_INDEX_MAX];
      metrics[OracleConnection.END_TO_END_CLIENTID_INDEX] = "test"; // <== here is a Client ID
      ((OracleConnection)con).setEndToEndMetrics(metrics, (short)0);then on the server side issue this (or maybe ask your DBA to do it because of lack of permissions) :
    EXECUTE DBMS_MONITOR.CLIENT_ID_TRACE_ENABLE(client_id => 'test', -- <=== Client ID
                    waits => TRUE, binds => FALSE);
    EXECUTE DBMS_MONITOR.CLIENT_ID_TRACE_DISABLE(client_id => 'test');
    /then after trace disabling, search a trace file on the server (*.trc) and run tkprof to get readable trace file.
    Each calls from this JDBC client will be stored in a separate trace file (each client must have his own ClientID)
    Works on 10g and 11g
