Oracle 10G Browse object feature

Hi there
I am new to oracle, i have used browse Object in oracle 10g as an easy way to create my table instead of scripting.
however, i don't know how to assign two FK to the same table (employee table that contains Managers).
can anyone tell me in steps how i can do it using the browse object feature ?
Many thanks
ok, i found it but still have an issue. how to represent a recursive relation ship and again using the browse object feature in oracle. i tried to designate fk Mgr_id to the table employee which has a pk emp_id.
when i start insert rows to the existence column the following erorr appears:
" error ORA-02291: integrity constraint (SYSTEM.EMPLOYEE_CON) violated - parent key not found "
any idea guys ?

  • Oracle 10g new feature to backup to tape?

    I heard rumours that Oracle 10g has new features to backup to tape directly. I don't know exactly how this is done, and I'd like the experts to comment. What I've discovered so far is that there is this program called Legato Single Server Version (LSSV) which ships with the Oracle 10g Companion CD which makes RMAN use the tape directly as a medium to backup. Is this CD available for download?

    I am truly curious why you actively ask to avoid the "New Features Guide" which provides much of the information you desire.

  • Can we create wallet at User Level to implement TDE in Oracle 10g

    Hi
    I am going to use a Oracle 10g TDE security feature for data security.I have gone through with lots document.Everywhere there is mention to open or close a Wallet at system level.I mean ALTER SYSTEM..that means except DBA no one can see the encrypted column.
    But my requirement is bit different,I want to encrypt the column based on user.
    lets take example- Suppose we have one table TEST with C1,C2,C3,C4,C5,C6 column and there is U1,U2,U3 user.I want to encrypt C1 and C3 for U1 , C2 and C5 for U2 , C4 and C6 for U3 and U1,U2 and U3 can see only all columns except encrypted column.
    My question is Can we apply TDE at User level rather than system level.
    Any ideas or thought would be appreciable.
    Thanks in advance.
    ANwar

    The idea of TDE is to provide data protection on storage media, so when your backup tapes drop from the truck or the hard disk of a stolen laptop is sold online, encrypted data remains encrypted and can't be read by anyone.
    It seems to me as if you try to achieve access control by encryption, which you don't need: If users have sufficient privileges or the business need to see data, then they should be granted access and see the data de-crypted. Otherwise, access control mechanisms (roles, views, VPD, OLS) should kick in and hide the rows from them.
    So, for day-to-day business of your database, the wallet needs to be open, so that the database can de-crypt data for users who have been granted to see credit card numbers etc., but then limit access to credit card numbers they are not allowed to see with other measures. There is a little hands-on for TDE and VPD here:

  • Oracle 10g Lite database - Replacement

    Hi,
    Can u mention some database similar to oracle 10g Lite database features which supports forms10gr2?]
    Note: Thin Database required.
    Regards
    Sreenivas

    Shan,
    In the same way you create user in any other oracle database. I recommned to check following Oracle Lite Sql reference document for creating user from command line.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19188_01/doc/B15917/sqcmd.htm#sthref487
    or
    sql> CREATE USER liteuser IDENTIFIED BY "litepassword"; -- And add required privs to the user.

  • Oracle 10G New Feature........Part 1

    Dear all,
    from last couple of days i was very busy with my oracle 10g box,so i think this is right time to
    share some intresting feature on 10g and some internal stuff with all of you.
    Have a look :-
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oracle 10g Memory and Storage Feature.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1.Automatic Memory Management.
    2.Online Segment Shrink
    3.Redolog Advisor, checkpointing
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    5.Automatic Workload Repository
    6.Active Session History
    7.Misc
    a)Rename Tablespace
    b)Bigfile tablespace
    c)flushing buffer cache
    8.ORACLE INTERNAL
    a)undocumented parameter (_log_blocks_during_backup)
    b)X$ view (x$messages view)
    c)Internal Structure of Controlfile
    1.Automatic memory management
    ================================
    This feature reduce the overhead of oracle DBA.previously mostly time we need to set diff oracle SGA parameter for
    better performance with the help of own experience,advice views and by monitoring the behaviour
    of oracle database.
    this was just time consuming activity.........
    Now this feature makes easy life for oracle DBA.
    Just set SGA_TARGET parameter and it automatically allocate memory to different SGA parameter.
    it focus on DB_CACHE_SIZE
    SHARED_POOL_SIZE
    LARGE_POOL
    JAVA_POOL
    and automatically set it as
    __db_cache_size
    __shared_pool_size
    __large_pool_size
    __java_pool_size
    check it in alert_log
    MMAN(memory manager) process is new in 10g and this is responsible for sga tuning task.
    it automatically increase and decrease the SGA parameters value as per the requirement.
    Benefit:- Maximum utlization of available SGA memory.
    2.Online Segment Shrink.
    ==========================
    hmmmmm again a new feature by oracle to reduce the downtime.Now oracle mainly focus on availablity
    thats why its always try to reduce the downtime by intrducing new feature.
    in previous version ,reducing High water mark of table was possible by
    Exp/imp
    or
    alter table move....cmd. but on these method tables was not available for normal use for long hrs if it has more data.
    but in 10g with just few command we can reduce the HWmark of table.
    this feature is available for ASSM tablespaces.
    1.alter table emp enable row movement.
    2.alter table emp shrink space.
    the second cmd have two phases
    first phase is to compact the segment and in this phase DML operations are allowed.
    second phase(shrink phase)oracle shrink the HWM of table, DML operation will be blocked at that time for short duration.
    So if want to shrink the HWM of table then we should use it with two diff command
    first compact the segment and then shrink it on non-peak hrs.
    alter table emp shrink space compact. (This cmd doesn't block the DML operation.)
    and alter table emp shrink space. (This cmd should be on non-peak hrs.)
    Benefit:- better full table scan.
    3.Redolog Advisor and checkpointing
    ================================================================
    now oracle will suggest the size of redo log file by V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    SELECT OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE
    FROM V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    this value is influence with the value of FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET .
    Checkpointing
    Automatic checkpointing will be enable after setting FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to non-zero value.
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    ==================================
    Now we can manage multiple temp tablespace under one group.
    we can create a tablespace group implicitly when we include the TABLESPACE GROUP clause in the CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE or ALTER TABLESPACE statement and the specified tablespace group does not currently exist.
    For example, if group1 is not exists,then the following statements create this groups with new tablespace
    CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp1 TEMPFILE '/u02/oracle/data/temp01.dbf'
    SIZE 50M
    TABLESPACE GROUP group1;
    --Add Existing temp tablespace into group by
    alter tablespace temp2 tablespace group group1.
    --we can also assign the temp tablespace group on database level as default temp tablespace.
    ALTER DATABASE <db name> DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE group1;
    benefit:- Better I/O
    One sql can use more then one temp tablespace
    5.AWR(Automatic Workload Repository):-
    ================================== AWR is built in Repository and Central point of Oracle 10g.Oracle self managing activities
    is fully dependent on AWR.by default after 1 hr, oracle capure all database uses information and store in AWR with the help of
    MMON process.we called it Memory monitor process.and all these information are kept upto 7 days(default) and after that it automatically purge.
    we can generate a AWR report by
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt
    Just like statspack report but its a advance and diff version of statspack,it provide more information of Database as well as OS.
    it show report in Html and Text format.
    we can also take manually snapshot for AWR by
    BEGIN
    DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY.CREATE_SNAPSHOT ();
    END;
    **The STATISTICS_LEVEL initialization parameter must be set to the TYPICAL or ALL to enable the Automatic Workload Repository.

    Benefit:- Now DBA have more free time to play games.....................:-)
    Advance version of statspack
    more DB and OS information with self managing capabilty
    New Automatic alert and database advisor with the help of AWR.
    6.Active Session History:-
    ==========================
    V$active_session_history is view that contain the recent session history.
    the memory for ASH is comes from SGA and it can't more then 5% of Shared pool.
    So we can get latest and active session report from v$active_session_history view and also get histortical data of
    of session from DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY.
    v$active_session_history include some imp column like:-
    ~SQL identifier of SQL statement
    ~Object number, file number, and block number
    ~Wait event identifier and parameters
    ~Session identifier and session serial number
    ~Module and action name
    ~Client identifier of the session
    7.Misc:-
    ========
    Rename Tablespace:-
    =================
    in 10g,we can even rename a tablespace by
    alter tablespace <tb_name> rename to <tb_name_new>;
    This command will update the controlfile,data dictionary and datafile header,but dbf filename will be same.
    **we can't rename system and sysaux tablespace.
    Bigfile tablespace:-
    ====================
    Bigfile tablespace contain only one datafile.
    A bigfile tablespace with 8K blocks can contain a 32 terabyte datafile.
    Bigfile tablespaces are supported only for locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment-space management.
    we can take the advantage of bigfile tablespace when we are using ASM or other logical volume with RAID.
    without ASM or RAID ,it gives poor response.
    syntax:-
    CREATE BIGFILE TABLESPACE bigtbs
    Flushing Buffer Cache:-
    ======================
    This option is same as flushing the shared pool,but only available with 10g.
    but i don't know, whats the use of this command in prod database......
    anyway we can check and try it on test server for tuning n testing some query etc....
    SQL> alter system flush buffer_cache;
    System altered.
    ++++++++++++++++++
    8.Oracle Internal
    ++++++++++++++++++
    Here is some stuff that is not related with 10g but have some intresting things.
    a)undocumented parameter "_log_blocks_during_backup"
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    as we know that oracle has generate more redo logs during hotbackup mode because
    oracle has to maintain the a complete copy of block into redolog due to split block.
    we can also change this behaviour by setting this parameter to False.
    If Oracle block size equals the operating system block size.thus reducing the amount of redo generated
    during a hot backup.
    WITHOUT ORACLE SUPPORT DON'T SET IT ON PROD DATABASE.THIS DOCUMENT IS JUST FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSE.
    b)some X$ views (X$messages)
    ++++++++++++++++
    if you are intresting in oracle internal architecture then x$ view is right place for getting some intresting things.
    X$messages :-it show all the actions that a background process do.
    select * from x$messages;
    like:-
    lock memory at startup MMAN
    Memory Management MMAN
    Handle sga_target resize MMAN
    Reset advisory pool when advisory turned ON MMAN
    Complete deferred initialization of components MMAN
    lock memory timeout action MMAN
    tune undo retention MMNL
    MMNL Periodic MQL Selector MMNL
    ASH Sampler (KEWA) MMNL
    MMON SWRF Raw Metrics Capture MMNL
    reload failed KSPD callbacks MMON
    SGA memory tuning MMON
    background recovery area alert action MMON
    Flashback Marker MMON
    tablespace alert monitor MMON
    Open/close flashback thread RVWR
    RVWR IO's RVWR
    kfcl instance recovery SMON
    c)Internal Structure of Controlfile
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    The contents of the current controlfile can be dumped in text form.
    Dump Level Dump Contains
    1 only the file header
    2 just the file header, the database info record, and checkpoint progress records
    3 all record types, but just the earliest and latest records for circular reuse record types
    4 as above, but includes the 4 most recent records for circular reuse record types
    5+ as above, but the number of circular reuse records included doubles with each level
    the session must be connected AS SYSDBA
    alter session set events 'immediate trace name controlf level 5';
    This dump show lots of intresting information.
    it also show rman recordes if we used this controlfile in rman backup.

  • New features in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    is someone able to say what new features will be included in Oracle 10g from Workspace Manager point of view? I've looked on http://otn.oracle.com/oramag/webcolumns/2003/techarticles/new_features_preview.pdf but there is nothing about OWM. Particularly I'm interested in:
    1. Possibility of historical data archiving and reloading - see topic Historic data in version enabled tables
    2. More sophisticated support for database export/import (there is possible to export/import full database only)
    3. Java API for OWM - see topic Java API for OWM?
    Thanks
    Ondrej

    1. Possibility of historical data archiving
    This is not available in 10G
    2. More sophisticated support for database export/import (there is possible to export/import full database only)
    Table level import//export is supported in 10G
    3. Java API for OWM
    No Java API support in 10G

  • Oracle 10g express edition browser login problem

    Hi
    I installed oracle 10g express edition and after installing successfully logged in browser , unlocked hr login and also created one form then I shutdown the database and rebooted my pc and since then when I try to login to "go to Database Home page" after starting database , I get a cookie 127.0.0.1 with username and password, First of all I am not sure what username/password it is expecting, I believe it requires my Windows XP username and password , I tried to enter couple of times my pc login username which has administrator privileges, I also checked it has ora_dba group but after entering pc username , password browser opens saying "unauthorized". I created another os user and tried with that still same. I tried entering oracle password "SYSTEM" and password for it but still could not login, I tried HR username password still nothing.
    I tried disabling firewall but still same issue. I tried to re-install two time but still same .
    Start database dos prompt does show all the process are started successfully .
    I also did ping for 127.0.0.1 and it does ping.
    I tried everything what I knew.
    Can anyone please help me ..to resolve this issue .

    Hi
    This is how I resolved the browser login problem .
    I checked the listener log
    C:\OracleXE\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\log
    And found the error
    TNS-12542: TNS:address already in use
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00512: Address already in use
    I have another version for oracle installed on my pc .
    I ended both the oracle process (Oracle.exe) through the Task Manager
    Then manually started “OracleServiceXe” service through Component Services
    Control Panel – Performance & Maintenance – Administrative – Component Services
    Then did following
    Programs – Oracle Database10g ExpressEdition – Start Database
    Programs – Oracle Databse10g ExpressEdition – Go to Database Homepage –
    Enter username SYSTEM
    Enter password xxxxxx … whatever given at the time of installing.
    And I did successfully login to the browser .
    Hope this will help to those of you who have run into similar problem which I faced
    Good Luck .

  • Oracle 9i feature not available in Oracle 10g

    Does anybody know, when this feature is available in Oracle 10, too ? Already in 10.1.0.4 ? Or in Oracle 10g Release 2 ?
    Thanks,
    Ulf

    I assume you have Windows on the client. The "Drivers" page of the ODBC_DSA should list all installed drivers. You require:
    name= Oracle ODBC Driver
    version= 8.01.07.00 (or something similar)
    company= Oracle Corporation DO NOT USE the Microsoft one.
    If this does not show, then either it was not included in the Oracle Client installation or you have not rebooted after the Oracle Client installation; the ODBC driver is not visible until rebooted.

  • Oracle 10g editions features

    for oracle 10g different editions, regarding Maximum CPUs feature, it is mentioned that for
    Standard Edition One - Maximum CPUs - 2
    Standard Edition - Maximum CPUs - 4
    Enterprise Edition - Maximum cPUs - Unlimited.
    does this means that Server on which database is to be installed has 8 CPUs then in case of Standard Edition One- it will use only 2 CPUs out of 8
    In case of Standard Edition - it will use 4 CPUs out of 8
    In case of Enterprise Edition - it will use all the 8 CPUs.
    Regards

    does this means that Server on which database is to
    be installed has 8 CPUs ...To license Oracle for a server with the capacity of more than 4 cpus or sockets, you have the choice of Enterprise Edition. Note the multi-core aspect.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABGIECI
    However, you (or someone in your company) need to get in touch with your Oracle account rep to discuss these licensing and contractual matters. (It is not as straightforward as your second or third impression may let you believe)

  • Backing up all data and objects of Oracle 10g Express Edition...

    Hi,
    I have tables, packages, views, procedures, etc. in Oracle 10g Express Edition, running on Windows XP. I would like to create a backup of the complete database (objects, relationships, all data, etc) into a file that I can restore in case the database crashes.
    What do I do?
    Thanks.

    markk2 wrote:
    I am actually using it for Production. Yes, I would need objects and data.I would suggest to look at the Standard Edition as well if you are using it for production.
    Is there a way to backup everything without data and then backup everything with data? Also, is there a way to restore everything without data and then restore everything with data?What's the meaning of "backup everything withiut data" and "then backup everything with data" ? The data is in the tables alone. The rest of the objects are not containing data but are using it, be it views, procedures etc. There is no such restore like without data. Without data, all what you would be getting would be structures of the tables which is going to be of no use. The export/import tool, is a simple tool which can put the tables (and other objects as well) along with their data in your dumpfile . In the situation of loss of a table, you can do an import from that dump file and you can restore the table back(with or without data, depends on the choice of yours while running Import command) . But this is just going to be a logical recovery of the object(s). For a complete database, it's better to use RMAN which would copy the datafiles and keep it with itself. Later, when you have a crash, you can restore those files to get teh database recovered. But if you want complete security, its better to put your db in the archive log and then do the backup along with the archive log files.

    Aman....
    How to do this exactly? Thanks!

  • Oracle 10g R2 on Windows - Invalidation of Objects

    Hi All
    I am facing a very funny problem.
    I have installed 64 Bit Oracle 10g R2 on a Windows Enterprise Edition 64 Bit system. The Application we are using is Saba Enterprise with Websphere.
    We are migrating data from old user system to this server. The loading is very slow. We ran the Access Advisor for any recommendations and it recommended creation of some indexes.
    The problem arises here when we implement the indexes and start our application the whole server just hangs and we see a lot of Library Cache lock in the EM. The second thing which we see is that all the objects ( procedures,triggers and views ) owned by the connecting user for the application become invalid.
    We have not put any patches on the server yet.
    Can anyone please help on this . Is there anything that we need to implement. We have used the General Purpose template to create the database using DBCA.
    We have tested the same indexes on other copies of the database in our office but the result is the same.
    This is urgent.
    Thanks

    Sounds like you need an Oracle DBA.
    Or you could try a more relevant forum like [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=61]Database - General than a forum that is dedicated to the SQL and PL/SQL languages.

    Hi,
    Just check below link..would be helpful..
    http://www.oracle.com/global/ap/openworld/ppt_download/database_manageability%2011g%20overview_230.pdf
    and
    Each release of Oracle has many differences, and Oracle 10g is a major re-write of the Oracle kernel from Oracle 9i. While there are several hundred new features and other differences between 9i and 10g, here are the major differences between Oracle9i and Oracle10g:
    Major changes to SQL optimizer internals
    Oracle Grid computing
    AWR and ASH tables incorporated into Oracle Performance Pack and Diagnostic Pack options
    Automated Session History (ASH) materializes the Oracle Wait Interface over time
    Data Pump replaces imp utility with impdp
    Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    SQLTuning Advisor
    SQLAccess Advisor
    Rolling database upgrades (using Oracle10g RAC)
    dbms_scheduler package replaces dbms_job for scheduling
    and you need to refer oracle documentation for sql, plsql references where you will know particular enhancements made...
    thanks
