Oracle 10g Certification Upgrade from 9i OCP

Hi All,
I am OCP 9i.. If I give one upgrade paper, I will 10g certified..
Question is:
Is it compulsary to take training from recognised centers to appear for the exam.. As when I did 9i certification, It was compulsary to do atleast one paper training from recognised centers.
Thanxx in Advance.

If you took the exam for 9 you probably need it for 10 too. Have a look at education.oracle.com website for detailed upgrade instructrions for 1z-040 exam.
I have to do the same upgrade process.

  • Password problem in oracle 10g after upgrading from oracle 9i

    Hi to all,
    i'm migrating oracle 9i to oracle 10g. in oracle 9i username/password are same character(eg kareem/kareem)
after upgrading to oracle 10g will it create any problem. Because in oracle 10g the condition is when creating user is username and password should not contain same character (kareem/kareem not allowed).
    Thanks in advance

in oracle 10g document, they have mention below condition to create user. See the second condition.
    • Passwords must be between 4 and 30 characters long.
    • Passwords cannot be the same as the user name.
    • Passwords must be from the database character set and can include the underscore (_), dollar ($), and pound sign (#) characters.
    • Passwords cannot be Oracle reserved words.
    • Don't start the password with a numeral.
    • Don's use change_on_install or manager as passwords, since they are used by Oracle.
As i'm going to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g. if it give problem because username and password are same then i have to request my development team to change the password in their application. Can you please verify and tell me.

  • Oracle 10g Certification

I want to do Oracle 10g certification( 1z0-042 and 1z0-043 ). Do I have to take training course from ORACLE for
that. How much it will cost? Is there any other way like doing Oracle 9i DBA Track without this instructor led
    training programme.

That means I have to attend the course before taking the second exam 1z0-043.The before* bit is not true ... the order can be either way .....
Just to be clear you can take 1z0-043 before taking your hands on line course (which is what I did). The advantage in that is you dont have to fork out the money for the course before you've passed the exam, the disadvantage is it will probably take an extra 5 weeks before your OCP certificate comes in the post .. eg about 12 weeks in total after finishing the hands on course before you get your certificate ... ( in the meanwhile seek out [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Still_Waiting] on iTunes)
I had similar choices to you - I was initiallially for choosing a 2 day 10g advanced pl/sql course (cheap) ... but the one i had seen got cancelled so 1 did a 5 day 11g RAC course instead. (expensive but good). Worth getting aware of the schedule of courses at locations convenient to youself and costs of courses and seek out the one with the best cost/benefit for yourself (that is an acceptable hands on for 10g dba).

  • Oracle 10g XE migrate from 32bit to 64bit becomes slower

Oracle 10g XE migrate from 32bit to 64bit becomes slower
Currently we have a database using Oracle 10g XE R2
(Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0)
    on a linux 32bit server.
And recently we did migrate it to another 64bit linux server.
But found after migration is it running slower at 64bit server (~ 25% slower)
    1. We would wonder any tuning is required on 64bit server?
Besides, as I know Oracle XE only using single core CPU for processing.
    On 32bit linux the CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31235 @ 3.20GHz
    On 64bit linux the CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2470 v2 @ 2.40GHz
    2. Would the CPU clock speed on a single core also made the 64bit Oracle slower?
    Thanks a lot.

32 or 64 bit normally won't cause much performance difference as long as you can't use > 4GB RAM
Please note that XE can use only 1 core and 1GB memory.
According to benchmarks, Single Thread Rating of the 2 CPU really differ by around 25%. Quite consistent with your observation.
Of course, IO (i.e., disk) speed is also an important factor.

  • Need to upgrade from 8i OCP to 11g OCP

I had my 8i DBA OCP a long time ago (2002). Now I'm planning to upgrade it to 11g OCP. I have a couple of questions about my options.
I know one of my options is to upgrade to 10g first and them upgrade from 10g to 11g.
But what about if I would like to take 11g tests, such as 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053? This will be my second option.
    1) In my second option, will my exsiting IZO-001 (Introduction to Oracle SQL and PL/SQL) pass remains valide as an SQL exemption?
    2) Since I already have OCP, will I exempt for oracle hands on training?
BTW, I already have an account in CertView and see all my certification information.
Thanks very much for any help.
    Best Regards
    Cindy

CindyI dont have time to seek out the authorive posts from times past.
But for an 8i DBA OCP with 1z0-001 then passes in 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 will achieve 11g DBA OCP certification with no additional training.
I will often recommend raising an Service Request to confirm this; as it would be a very expensive investment in money/time if it were not to be the case.
Thankou for giving all relevant information which has made the answer easy for me to give.

  • Can not connect Oracle 10g express edition from report builder.

I have newly installed report builder . Different home was selected for Report builder and oracle. Oracle database server is also in the same machine. But i am not able to connect my oracle 10g express edition database. It throws error ORA-12154 : TNS could not resolve service name.( same error displayed while trying to connect from SQL Plus). But from toad i am able to access the database. May be because here I am able to select the proper home.
Here i am adding my tns entry
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 1ECA66A679AB494)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
can any one suggest what the actual problem is?
    Thanks ..........

    Hello,
Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
    But be careful:
Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.

  • Oracle 10g Universe Connectivity From 64bit Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
Have an existing BO XI 3.1 environment built on a 64 bit Windows 2003 server and
I'm having problems getting it to communicate with Oracle 10g universes.  Works fine
with its SQL Server 2005 repository and SQL Server 2005 relational/olap universes, but
cant seem to get it to work with Oracle.
Universes work fine on the 32 bit development environment talking to the same Oracle
database, but when move them to 64 bit testing environment they all fail with
    Oracle ora-12154 errors.
32 bit Oracle client is installed and can communicate fine with other products using ODBC
connections from the server - but BO refuses to communicate.
Any ideas other than reinstalling BO under 'Program Files' rather than 'Program Files (x86)'
as I've seen some references on the web about this possibly being a problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Oracle 32 bit and 64 bit connectivity work fine from the server.  The problem seems to
relate to bug 3807408 in Oracle 10g that cant handle parentheses in directory names.
So BO being installed in u2018C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objectsu2019 causes it to get
    rather annoyed.
SAP Note 1202730 does cover this, but our DBA's aren't too keen on installing the
suggested patch.  I'm also not very keen on reinstalling BO in a different directory as
we've got working production sites that would have to be rebuilt.
So now investigating whether using the Oracle 11g client will resolve this.
MSDN forum topic http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/ab662d63-6385-4f73-b27f-d526048f601f/  gives a pretty good overview of what people have been trying to resolve this.

  • Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

    Hello Oracle Experts,
This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.
    Thanks.

    RaviShankar.

    Hi Rajesh,
Actually I will not be touching the Oracle instance SAN box directly. I will only access the database from another machine. I my case it is Linux box.
So, my question is how do you make the Oracle Client in Linux box to connect to Oracle instance running in another non ip based machine SAN storage.Install Oracle client on this Linux machine ..
Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

  • Differences between Oracle 10G Client ODBC from 10.1.x to 10.2.x (datatype)

What differences where implemented to Oracle 10G Clients ODBC connectivity drivers between 10G Release 1 and Release 2 concerning datatypes?
I have an application that performs a qualified read returning a group of records (this is successful) and then performs a delete on each record read. No errors occur on completion of the application. When using release 1, the records are physically removed. Using release 2 a portion of the same group of records are not removed. The key for the table is a numeric field with six decimal places (not my design). My applications C code defines the field as a DOUBLE.

I certainly agree that something changed. The question is whether it was a change in function or not. With a lot of these sorts of errors, tracking down the "source" of the error involves finding a change in a piece of code that allowed what was always possible to actually occur. That is, you may have two pieces of code that are functionally identical but that end up allowing the sorts of "round off" errors that are always possible when using doubles. The driver might, for example, now be going down a code path where it shifts a number to the right or left rather than dividing or multiplying by 2, which may make this sort of thing more likely. Functionally, given that doubles don't guarantee infinite precision, these operations are identical, but one may be significantly more likely to cause problems.
Is your application using the ODBC API directly? Or is it going through a higher-level API? If you are going through ODBC directly, you might look to see whether the data types that are being returned by the driver to your code are the same across driver versions.
