Oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5
what are the packages needed for oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5?
what do you mean by yum way of installation?
Check on the release notes for your platform
This is for x86-64 Linux.. read it all, then you'll find the "6 Documentation Corrections and Additions" section you'll find the RPMs that you need
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15666/toc.htm
then go to the official doc installation of 10gR2 on x86-64 Linux
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm
Yum is a package management tool. This is what you'll be using to install the RPMs. But first you'll have to setup the Yum repository, usually what I do is stage the DVD media on the server then make it as a repository. If ever there's a specific (higher) version that I need then I just pull it on the RedHat Network.
There are a lot of HOWTOs about Yum. You may read on this link http://docs.fedoraproject.org/yum/en/

Installing Oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux
Hi,
I am new with Linux Os and have to install oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux Os for a customer. So before proceeding, I need some guidelines.
1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?
2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?
3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases?
4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setup
Regards
Edited by: user640001 on Feb 25, 2011 5:44 AM1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?Ordinarily, I'd recommend getting Oracle Linux (http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux) because the default install includes all the prerequisite RPM packages you will need. And failing that, also offers another RPM package "oracle-validated" which will cause the installation of the necessary prerequisites.
But... you mentioned customer: if this is a revenue-producing situation and customer money is at stake, I strongly recommend they obtain commercial O/S support with either Oracle, Red Hat, or maybe SuSE/Novell. Compared to the cost of a downed business, an O/S support arrangement is cheap, cheap, cheap.
2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?Sure. You can run Oracle VirtualBox on most Linux, Windows, or Solaris boxes. http://VirtualBox.org for info.
3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases? No real differences in either environment.
4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setupWhat, you didn't try http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux yet? -

Problem Oracle 10g database Installation on Windows 2003 Server
Hi All,
I am trying to face some problem to install oracle 10g database on windows 2003 server with service pack 2. Once I start to installation it give me an error "Error in writing to directory 'c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\orainstall2004xxx'. Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 45MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue"
I double-insured that there is enough disk-space and I am also in the Administrators-Group.
Please guide me for the above problem although I have done oracle 9i database installation with the same configuration.

Oracle 10g database installation
Hi
I installed 10g database on my Win2K OS. I had accepted defaults and could even open up the EM from the browser. Later I installed Oracle 9iDS on the same machine but different home. Now when I invoke EM console, it says database is unavailable. Tried the 'Startup' from the console but in vain. I found that there was no tnsnames.ora file in the Oracle 9iDS home directory (c:/oracle/product/9iDS/network/admin). So copied the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files from 10g HOME directory. But couldn't get to work.
Later I added a registry key TNS_ADMIN under the HOME0 for ALL_HOMES. I entered the key value to point to tnsnames.ora file in 10g HOME directory. No luck.
At the command prompt I can connect to SQLPLUS as dummy. At SQL prompt conn / as sysdba gives me the error:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Could one of you resolve this issue?
ThanksNow I tried to ping orcl
c:\tnsping orcl
Output I got was
Used Parameter files:
c:\oracle\product\9iDS\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
c:\oracle\product\9iDS\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
Attempting to contact ...... (SERVICE_NAME=orcl))))
OK (4120 msec)
This means that it actually looks at the tnsnames and sqlnet files in my 9iDS home directory. But my 10g database is in c:\oracle\product\10.1.0\db_1
I have installed Oracle 9iDS in a different HOME (c:\oracle\product\9iDS). Does this mean that these files should not be in mt 9iDS dir but only in 10g dir?
Could anybody explain what I need to do? -

Oracle 10g Database installation error
I have come up with the message below when I click on setup.exe to launch OUI.

However, when the checking requirements process is done,
there's pop up window titled "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" saying "Could not find the main class. Program will exit".
I have tried to change the location of JRE in oraparam.ini file for searching the main class. But it does not work. Please help. Is this because my oraparam.ini does not indicate the location of the main class required for the JVM launcher?
Thank you very muchThanks for the help. However, I am not sure what you meant in your answer.
Let me show my oraparam.ini file below. Please let me know if there's anything to be changed in the file. Thanks a lot.

Oracle 10g Enerprise Manager on Red Hat Enterprise 3.0
I am installing Enterprise manager with a new database and using all defaults. I get an error when the HTTP Server is being installed stating that it can not connect to http://atla-oms-db1:1830/em/main. Can anyone tell what could be wrong? Thanks!!!
Since you used default install, If you are going into Grid Control just enter
http://atla-oms-db1/em
If you are going into Application Server just enter
http://atla-oms-db1:1830
You do not need the em/main -

Installation of Oracle 10g Database on Windows Vista Home Basic
Hi All,
I'm confused about the possibility of installing Oracle 10g Database Server in Windows Home Basic Operating System with Service Pack 1. Please help me out with a confirmation.
Thanks in advance
PrasanthHi Prasanth
Yes that should be possible but is it a production database or just a test database.
you can always control that in metalink if it is supported, I don't believe it is.
Read that documentation to perform the installation.

Win32 Oracle 10g Database Server Installation problems
Hello,
I have recently installed the Oracle 10g Database Server for Win32. The installation seemed to be successful. I used the Enterprise option and all the suggested defaults. Ihave the following services installed and started after the installation:
o OracleDBConsoleORCL [started]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus [started]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerEncapsulator [manual]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerMasterAgent [manual]
o OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener [started]
o OracleServiceORCL [started]
I have created the following files:

I go to the DOS console and type:
c:> sqlplus scott/tiger@ORCL
and I get:
ERROR: ORA-28000: the account is locked
I did this right after I restarted my computer.
When I use the Enterprise Manager at:
http://localhost:5500/em/
I get for ORCL:
Status: Status Pending
Status Pending Since: Unavailable
Seems that I can never get the database started properly?! When I press the Startup/Shutdown button I get:
Current Status: open
This is the correct current database status, although it doesnot match the current status in the sitemap page
What does this mean? Do you think this may contain the clue to the answer to this problem?
When I restart the Database I get the same status: unavailable.
I need your help to resolve this problem. The alternative is to revert back to Oracle 9i DB Server. Thank you in advance.
gkkI can help you with the SCOTT account being locked. Try:
sqlplus /nolog
connect / as sysdba
alter user scott identified by tiger account unlock; -

i started creating database control repository, when i saw emca running i had seen repository created successfully , but sysman user is not created at this point of time. Then i looked into emca_repos_create_2008-04-10_11-57-03-AM.log file but the file is unable to open because it's looking for file emreposcre.sql which creates sysman user in this location /opt/db/oracle/product/10.2.0/sysman/admin/emdrep/sql/
i feel while installing the database these files are not created....? or i need to run any scripts before running emca ....?
give me some inputs to this thread.
Thanks,
nil

Oracle 9i installation on Red Hat Linux 9 URGENT
hi,
I live in london, I have tried a lot to install Oracle 9i Enterprise edition on Red Hat Linux 9, but couldn't do it, can any one help me to install it, I am ready to pay and visit any place in london for that purpose in the evening, if any one can help my mobiel number 07832 077672
best regards
asifIf you are only trying to learn, I would recommend either Fedora FC4 or OpenSuSE 10, and I would recommend installing ORacle Express Edition if you do not need advanced Oracle stuff (or you are not learning for OCP).
Again, use Werner's excellent site - http://www.puschitz.com or Ivan Kartik's site - http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html to get good instruciton on installation.
If you want a free version that is as close to a supported Linux as legally possible, consider using WhiteBoxLinux.org, TaoLinux.org or CentOS.org linux. These are clones of RedHat Enterprise (the one that is supported). Or you could contact Novell.com and ask for an evaluation kit for SLES9. -
