Oracle 10g express - post installation

Hi All !
I installed Oracle 10g exp. on my linux system (fedora core 4) yesterday. I am very new to both the linux os and oracle db. So I'm sure I messed up somewhere, though I can't figure out where....if anyone could help me....here is the problem
installation was successful...I configured Oracle db with default http port:8080, listener: 1521 and the password.
after installation I don't see oracle icons on my redhat menu. I tried opening in the browser with this
http://(hostname):8080/htmldb and it does not bring up anything. I may be doing something wrong in looking up the hostname...here is the listener.log file....I'd appreciate if any1 could tell me what is wrong.
Thank you,
-----------------------------listener.log-----------------------------
System parameter file is /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/listener.ora

Trace information written to /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/trace/listener.trc
Trace level is currently 0

TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Linux Error: 99: Cannot assign requested address

I encountered this issue on my laptop and realized it was because I installed Oracle XE when connected via DHCP. I never manually specified a hostname so my install was burned with crazy DHCP hostnames which of course change every time I get onto my work network. So to fix it, I did the following:
1. Hard set a hostname (Fedora Core 6 /etc/sysconfig/network + hostname command)
2. Updated tnslistener.ora and tnsnames.ora to use the new hostname
3. force-reload
All good. JDBC connects, "service oracle-xe status" is good and the home page is back.

Have you checked for any errors in log file....????
Can you connect via SQL*PLUS ... , for example...????

while installing the Oracle 10g Express Edition in windows XP ,
it is showing an error like this ,
the cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error.

I think you should probably download the file again, it might be corrupt.

I am on my last attempt here if there are no other concrete solutions. Guess I will have to wait for 11g to make it to the Windows environment. Any other previous version of 10g that I can try????

but i need how to link this script into the Setup file.
i urgently need ur help bro.................. let me know if u have some idea to fix this problem.
    thz for advance.

It is important to define which OS you are working with.
Making a blind guess I will assume your are working on a windows environment (after this file fragment: "Dir=d:\oraclexe\TEST")
In order to perform a silent install on a windows environment you should:
    - download the appropriate installation executable - eg. OracleXE.exe
         - download one of the silent install response file templates
         - edit the template with appropriate values for the install questions
         - run the Oracle XE installation and specify the location of the edited response file using a command similar to the following: OracleXE.exe /s /f1"<location of edited response file> /f2"<location of silent install log>

  • Oracle 10g Express installation fails

    All,
I've been looking in the forum for a solution to my problem but I can't find one. I'm a complete novice when it comes to databases
    I have a sevrer with windows 2003 sp2, 2 drives 40B+ free space and 2GB ram
No applications are running on this server
I had a previous version of 10g express edition installed on this same server, which I deleted using oracle uninstall doc and windows clean up utlity.
When trying to install Oracle 10g express edition I get past the install location, DB passoword and ports for function. during the 'copying files' part of the installation the installation just dies/exits.
the user account I'm using is local administator (not domain) on the server.
    I've stopped all antivirus services.
The only error in event viewer show the following error

You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service stopped.

I running out of ideas. Can anyone help or shed some light as to what is happening. It can't be storage space or memory as there is nothing running on this box.
    Thanks in adavnce

You might have better luck on the Oracle Express Forum, which is the only support location for the product.
Otherwise check the registry entries to make sure there is nothing that might interfere.

  • Oracle 10g Express Installation

Please help with installing Oracle 10g Express. These are the steps I've done:
    1. Click "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for Microsoft Windows"
    2. Click "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition (Western European)
    OracleXE.exe (165,332,312 bytes)
Single-byte LATIN1 database for Western European language storage, with the Database Homepage user interface in English only."
    3. Log in with my email and password I created
    4. File Download window appears and has the options to "Find" or "Save"
Clicking "Find" opens the following web page:
"Windows has the following information about this MIME type. This page will help you find software needed to open your file.
    MIME Type: application/x-msdownload
    Description: UnKnown
Windows does not recognize this MIME type.
You can search the following Web site for related software and information:
    Windows Live Search
Have questions? See these Frequently Asked Questions."
Clicking "Save" - I save to desktop or documents, it saves and then opens the same web page.
Please help, I'm a college student thats just trying to get more practice with Oracle outside of class.
    Thanks!

It seems the file is download without extension .exe. Because of this Windows does not know how to open it. Rename the downloaded file to OracleXE.exe and try again.

  • Installing and Running Oracle 10g Express Edition on Microsoft Vista

My computer is running on Microsoft Vista.
I downloaded Oracle 10g Express Edition for Vista.
I ran the setup.exe. Everything went well there.
But, when I open the SQLPlus program, a window prompts me to enter my username, password and host string.
Can someone please tell me what it is expecting for these fields? I am using the same username and password I used to create my Oracle account.
But what is the host string?
    Appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • An issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on Ubuntu 10.04-64bit

    Hi,
I'm running into an issue while installing oracle 10g express edition on my Ubuntu 10.04-64 bit installed machine using oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb package. The issue actually came up when I was trying to reinstall the package after uninstalling it due to some problem I had with my login credentials. To elaborate further on it, the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script does not get created when I execute the debian package and thus i'm unable to configure the required credentials and stuff after the installation. I doubt whether this has something to do with the procedure I followed when uninstalling the previous package it. But what I did was just what's mentioned in the following [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm] user guide published by oracle.
Another important clue would be, the platform of my machine is amd64bit although I'm dealing with an installation package preferred for i386. But I believe it's the only thing available in the oracle software download section. Hence I had to use the --force-architecture option to install it. But after reading some post published on this forum, I've figured out that it does not affect the usual execution of the software. Anyway,  I would greatly appreciate some help on this matter.

    Hi,
Finally I've managed to find a solution for this issue. Thanks a lot for all the replies.
Here's how I got rid of it.
Addressing all the facts one by one,
1.The problem of not getting the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe script generated was avoided
by removing all the configuration files that were previously created while installing
the product. The following command can be used to accomplish that task.
    *$ dpkg --purge oracle-xe*
2.Next, Initially the password I used during the configuration process was "admin".
Although I tried a couple of times installing the product providing the aforementioned
password, the web UI kept prompting "Invalid Credentials" message not allowing me
to login. But, this particular issue could be avoided by giving some other simple
    password.
Finally, got it working and once again thanks a bunch for taking the burden of
    replying this thread.
    Cheers,
    Prabath

  • (again) oracle 10g client and oracle 10g express in one computer

hi again, sorry if this question looks like a double post to you.
Well this is quite embarassing yet still make some headache for me. I have my office PC installed with Oracle 10g client using admin component option, for connecting some application with database on remote server. Now, after I have developed some basic map using Oracle 10g Express on my home PC, I want to test it in my office network. But everytime I tried to install Oracle Express, it web interface will working normally while all other aplication can no longer connected with remote server from the client. If I remove Oracle Express, all client connection will working again as if nothing happened. I already created Microsoft LoopBack connection using IP 10.10.10.10, edit TNSNAMES.ORA, etc that could possibly helpful but nothing fixed. Strangely, if I install Oracle 10g Database version, all connection to remote server working again, and map application also working. But this kind of installation takes up all my PC resources (grrrr!). Any more suggestion?
    best regards
    net2surfin

I'm sorry if the information not accurate, but the client connection made by application which try to connect is simply "not resolved" and show no error code/number at all. I'll try to connect from sqlplus though, maybe the error number will be known from this way.
About 10.10.10.10 tcp loopback, I got this work around from here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/reqs.htm#BABGCEAI
in the Ora Database Preinstallation requirement, where it states like this:
+16.In the Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address and do the following:+
a.IP Address: Enter a non-routable IP for the loopback adapter. Oracle recommends the following non-routable addresses:
    +■192.168.x.x (x is any value between 0 and 255)+
+■10.10.10.10+ <---- this is the value suggested that I've been used in my home PC
    b.Subnet mask: Enter 255.255.255.0.
c.Record the values you entered, which you will need later in this procedure.
    d.Leave all other fields empty.
    e.Click OK.
I'll try to remove the loopback later and see the ORA environment, to see the result. In the mean time, all suggestions is highly appreciated.
    thank you n best regards
