Oracle 10g Express / RMAN
I just installed Oracle 10g database express edition. I want to know whether RMAN is available with the express edition. I want to schedule backups of my database using RMAN. Where I can find more help?
Database backup and recovery for XE is based upon RMAN. Oracle Database XE includes backup and restore scripts that you access using menu choices on your desktop. These scripts perform a full backup and restore of the entire database, and store backup files in the flash recovery area. You can check Scheduling Automatic Backups.

Oracle 10g Express Edition for OCP 10g Upgrade Certification
Hi
Can I use Oracle 10g Express edition to prepare for Oracle 10g Release 2 new features exam.
Thanks,
JamesFor exam/certification disscussions, I suggest the [Certification forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459].
By preparation I assume you refer to the topics of the [1Z0-040 exam|http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_040#3].
For "strictly self-educational purposes", take a look at the OTN downloads license and consider using EE (or PE perhaps) install, supposed you need full features for the managebility stuff, tuning advisors, partitioning, RMAN functionality, etc.

Oracle 10g express edition recovery catalog
whether oracle 10g express edition spoort recovery catalog?
Yes you can; the answer is in the manual.
>
In general, the rules of RMAN compatibility are as follows:
<li>You can create 8.X or 9.X RMAN catalog schema in any Oracle database release 8.1.X (or higher) and Release 10g RMAN catalog schema in any Oracle database release 9.0.1 (or higher).</li>
<li>The recovery catalog schema version must be greater than or equal to the RMAN client version.</li>
<li>Ideally, the versions of the RMAN client and the target database should be the same (although there are other legal combinations, listed in Table B-1).</li>
<li>While backing up a Release 10g database using the 9.X RMAN client, you cannot include a controlfile that was created using compatible=10.0.0 in a datafile backupset. The workaround is to turn controlfile autobackup ON.</li>

Oracle 10g express Edition Database
We are using oracle 10g express edition with a temporary storage space for a class using SQL. When creating and using the database, the data is being deleted after 1 or 2 days and students are having to start over, creating tables and inserting data. Any suggestions?
suggestions?Backups?
Or, as long as the DDLs and DMLs don't take long, rerunning table create and insert SQLs would probably be much faster than setting up the database(s) in archivelog mode and copying datafile/archivelog files or rman backup files someplace that won't get reimaged every other day. -
Backing up all data and objects of Oracle 10g Express Edition...
Hi,
I have tables, packages, views, procedures, etc. in Oracle 10g Express Edition, running on Windows XP. I would like to create a backup of the complete database (objects, relationships, all data, etc) into a file that I can restore in case the database crashes.
What do I do?
Thanks.markk2 wrote:
I am actually using it for Production. Yes, I would need objects and data.I would suggest to look at the Standard Edition as well if you are using it for production.
Is there a way to backup everything without data and then backup everything with data? Also, is there a way to restore everything without data and then restore everything with data? What's the meaning of "backup everything withiut data" and "then backup everything with data" ? The data is in the tables alone. The rest of the objects are not containing data but are using it, be it views, procedures etc. There is no such restore like without data. Without data, all what you would be getting would be structures of the tables which is going to be of no use. The export/import tool, is a simple tool which can put the tables (and other objects as well) along with their data in your dumpfile . In the situation of loss of a table, you can do an import from that dump file and you can restore the table back(with or without data, depends on the choice of yours while running Import command) . But this is just going to be a logical recovery of the object(s). For a complete database, it's better to use RMAN which would copy the datafiles and keep it with itself. Later, when you have a crash, you can restore those files to get teh database recovered. But if you want complete security, its better to put your db in the archive log and then do the backup along with the archive log files.

yaa i'm sure about that .
i want one more instance of database. Can you perhaps explain why? I have a fair share of production and development servers - and not a single one of them needs to run more than one database instance.
So I'm interested in what requirement you are trying to satisfy by using two database instances on a single platform.
Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.) -

- Security
- Performance
I'm very new in the Oracle world, can anyone help me or suggest sites where I can retrieve the information I need.
ThanksSi offende qualcuno o semplicemente capisce meno gente? Penso più la seconda, ma mi sembra più "educato" usare l'inglese, in modo che tutti capiscano.

Hi All,
A newbie quesion. I have Oracle 8i in my laptop, I want to install Oracle 10g Express edition, can i have both together ?
Regards
Ravi KumarYes, you can have as many Oracle homes as you require and as the host can hold, as long as you are careful and disciplined with the way you manage your ORACLE_HOME and PATH environment variables.
