Oracle 10g for gis applications
I would like to know if the free Oracle 10g Express supports the "GIS" extension to handle spatial information. If so, for how many concurrent users is licenced (free, as I believe)
thanks
wll, I will check the links you mention, to see if the datatypes supported are enough.
If not, what would be the "Minimum" version of Oracle 10g supporint all the types of data. I am interested ONLY in using Oracle 10g as a repository for data, no triggers, no stored procedures, no pl/sql, nothing but data and the ability to insert, update, delete, drop, ... commit and rollback
thanks

How to reconfigure Oracle-xe (Oracle 10g for linux)?
Hello!
I found this article (seems useful since I use Mandriva 2010.2):
I installed Oracle 10g from the file "oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm".
Then, when run ./oracle-xe start and then ./oracle-xe status I get:

It does not seem ok to me.
I would love to truy to reconfigure it but if I try the command:
./oracle-xe configure
...I get:

Does any body know how to reset and reconfigure Oracle 10g for Linux?
Best regards
Fredrikit seems to be "PLSExtProc" bu default.Nope, the ORACLE_SID is taken from the environment variable when the database is started on a *nix host, windows its set up in the database service. If you want to change the ORACLE_SID, set it. See the environment setup script in OH/bin appropriate for your shell. (OH short for $ORACLE_HOME)

Oracle 10g for Windows installation - Error 1067
Hello Folks
I am trying to install Oracle 10g for Windows on my WIndows 7 Ultimate OS. Everything went fine until I rebooted and tried to run the *SQL Plus. ALthough the Listener as well as the Oracle Servide shoudl automatically start, but for some reason..they didn't. As a result, I went into the Services and tried to manually run them but to my disappointment getting the folowing error:
Windows could not start the OracleServiceORADB1 service on local computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpetedly.
Any idea what went wrong..and how should I get this right?
ThanksPl identify the exact version of "10g" that was installed.
The only version that is supported is 10.2.0.5 - see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b14264/toc.htm#CIHCFAGA

Unable to download oracle 10g for vista
I'm trying to download Oracle 10g for Windows Vista, but I only get a zero-byte file.
I even tried Oracle 10g XE for Windows, but I get a zero byte file.
Also, when you try to download, it waits about a couple of minutes before saying completed.
Any ideas how to resolve this?.Thanks for the replies.
It seemed to be a problem with either oracle's web site or a hop between oracle and my computer. It works now. I don't think it was my computer because I succussfully downloaded files from several other sites.
I have downloaded Oracle 10g for windows vista and installed it successfully on vista home premium 32-bit.
I did get a warning because I use DHCP. It recommended to install Microsoft Loopback driver as the primary interface - I didn't do that.
Oracle seems to run okay. I downloaded sql developer and it connects okay to oracle.
I have read other messages on here that installing oracle on a windows system using DHCP without a loopback driver can fail once my IP address changes. If I did install the microsoft loopback driver as my primary interface, what else would I need to do? Would installing this driver cause other stuff on my computer to fail?
Also, when I entered the database name for Oracle, it truncated a character.
I wasn't paying attention. So, after I installed, I was unable to connect at first because I kept entering the wrong TNS name. Is there a maximum TNS name length?
Notice the TNS name is TESTDB10 but the service name is TESTDB10G
TESTDB10 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.101)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = testdb10g)

Oracle 10g for Fedora Linux 3 with Kernel 2.6.9
Can any body suggest a link, from where I can download the Oracle database 10g for Fedora Core 3 Linux with Kernel version 2.6.9-1*.
I went through the oracle site site but i was not able to find a one for Fedora 3 instead i found for Fedora 4.
Thanks.......
SuneelYou will not find one exactly as you require.
As I suggested in the duplicate link
Oracle 10g for Fedora Linux 3 with Kernel 2.6.9 you need to take a version of Oracle that seems to close to your Linux and then carefully tinker to make it work., -
Connect from Windows Client to Oracle 10g for Windows 64-bit
Have an environment currently running Oracle 10g 32-bit on Windows 2000 Standard, and need to migrate to Oracle 10g 64-bit for Windows. Users connect to the 10g 32-bit database using the Oracle Client for Windows 10g loaded on remote PC's. If we migrate to the Oracle 10g 64-bit on Windows 2003 Server Enteprise Edition 64-bit, what type of client do I have to install on the PC's to access the Oracle 10g 64-bit database?
Any ehlp/insight will be greatly appreciated.
Eduardo in MichiganIn addition to install 32-bit Oracle client to 32-bit Windows OS, you need to know whether your application is compiled to run in 32-bit or 64-bit.
This is critical because 32-bit application can not see 64-bit Oracle ODBC and OLE DB provider.
For example, MS SQL Server 2005 uses 32-bit DTS, and SSIS, which needs 32-bit Oracle client
If you don't know, get a copy of both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle client, and try one-by-one to know for sure. Please be aware that if regsvr32.exe in the Windows has been overwritten by older software installation, it won't register some DLL properly, and Oracle ODBC, or OLE DB won't show up as well -
Oracle 10g OCI based application talking to an Oracle 9i database
Hi all,
Got a question. I have an OCI C++ application that is written using the Oracle 10g OCI includes, etc ... This of course is running on a 10g client. The client OS is actually a Windows x64 system since 10g is the only native OCI client right now for 64 bit Windows systems. So this all works fine. Now, I am communicating with an Oracle 9i database server. Is there anything wrong or invalid about this configuration ? I didn't think that there was but I was asked to confirm this, that is having an Oracle 10g client communicating with an Oracle 9i database. Our application is making very straight forward OCI calls, and we are not using any of the newer OCI calls that were introduced in 10g, just the ones that are available in 9i OCI.
Thanks in advance,
NickThanks for the reply.
Actually I thought that the OCCI forum was for Object oriented OCI, so while I'm using C++, I'm not using the object oriented side of OCI, just using the normal OCI calls. Guess I should have been a little clearer in my original post.
But my main question really concerned the version of the client and the version of the database which you answered.
Thanks,
Nick -

Upgrading to Oracle 10g for R/3 4.5B
Hello All,
One of the businesses we support is running SAP R/3 4.5B on Oracle 9.2.0.6. The kernel details are:
SAP R/3 Kernel information:
SAP R/3 Kernel 45B
Database version OCI_80500_SHARED
created in SunOS 5.5.1 Generic_103640-19 sun4u
Patch level 972
Is there a path to upgrade the database to 10g with this R/3 release without SAP upgrade?
All information will be useful.
Many Thanks,
NischNisch,
also, please note the excerpt below taken from note 819655 (please check it for an updated version):
Oracle Version
For general information regarding the support of Oracle version 10.2, see Note 720886 .
Even though Oracle 10 will not be generally certified for SAP systems with Releases 3.1I up to 4.6B, it is fully supported to upgrade these systems to Oracle 10.2 prior to the SAP upgrade or prior to the PREPARE phase of the upgrade.
The system can run with this setup for weeks with full support. This procedure was tested in the SAP-internal upgrade validation phase. However, you will encounter limitations in the field of database monitors and you cannot copy such a system to a target system running on Oracle 10g. From a business application perspective, you can use the system without any limitations.
Double Stack systems: When you upgrade the SAP J2EE Engine from NW ´04 to NW2004s, you must apply at least Support Package 12 of the SAP J2EE Engine before the upgrade to Oracle 10.
Also, note 868681 confirms the above, i.e..:
"SAP Systems 31I - 45B
The transports included within this note are not relevant for SAP releases 31I - 45B. These systems (31I - 45B) have to be upgraded to Oracle 10.x during preparations for the SAP Upgrade (release 700).
The monitoring transactions such as DB02 may not work correctly in these systems after upgrade to Oracle 10.x. However there is NO IMPACT on any of the business transactions."
Meaning, that if you upgrade your 4.5b system to Oracle 10g outside of a SAP upgrade project, you may find yourself running an unsupported installation.

Creating a connection pool using Oracle 10g, Sun ONE Application Serve 8.1
Has any one succesfully configured Oracle 10g to work with Sun ONE Application Server 8.1 on Windows 2000 server service pack 4? I am embarking on a new J2EE project and I need to configure it as soon as possible.
I haven't done it myself on that particular service pack, but I don't see why it should be any different than configuring a connection pool on other vanilla win2k/other OSes.
Would you please try and let this forum know?

Cannot get ODBC data source to talk to Oracle 10g for Windows
Problem description
I recently installed Oracle 10g on my laptop computer, which is running Windows 7. Everything went smoothly except for one crucial item: The ODBC data source I added keeps returning this error when I click the "Test Connection" button:
Testing Connection
Unable to connect
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed.
I was using the following ODBC driver
Oracle in OraDb10g_home1 (TNS Service Name = ORCL and User ID = scott)
This type of error happened, in one form or another for the three other Oracle drivers I have on my machine
Microsoft ODBC for Oracle
WinSQL Oracle
WinSQL Oracle Wire Protocol
These services are currently running (status = Started)
OractDBConsoleorcl
OracleMTSRecoveryService
OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus
OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener
OracleServiceORCL
(NOTE: I entered the foregoing information by hand, since I was not able to copy-and-paste it. So be aware that there is a small possibility of a minor typo in case you plan to cut-and-paste it.)
If requested, I can provide the contents of these files
tnsnames.ora
sqlnet.ora
listener.ora
Other installations on the same computer
ODAC (ADO data provider for Oracle)
SQL Server 2009 Express
.NET 4
Visual Studio 2010
Any help would be greatly appreciated!OK, I went ahead and upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and I STILL get the same error messages when trying to get the Oracle ODBC driver to talk to Oracle 10g. Here are some screen shots that show what happened:
1) Select ODBC driver: http://yfrog.com/f3driverselectionp
2) Configure driver: http://yfrog.com/ccoracleodbcfororaclep
3) Test connection: http://yfrog.com/1goracleodbcfororacletestp
I also get the following error when I try to run SQL*Plus from the line command, even with no parameters:
C:\Users\Bruce>sqlplus
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
Any suggestions as to how I might to go about diagnosing (and fixing) this problem?
Thanks,

Thanks in advance,
LoukasHi Elmar,
I have checked the packages and the XFree86-libs-4.3.99 is not installed. I guess I will have to install it.
Now your question about oracle user. I am not sure if you have performed any SAP MDM installation with ORACLE RDBMS but the installation guide is totally different than the normal SAP inst guides. Indeed someone needs to install separately SAP MDM and ORACLE and in my installation I do not install NetWeaver since it is not mandatory for the testing phase of the project. You can have a look at the guide (it is very poor -no reference to ORACLE details):
https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000271882007E
So the official ORACLE inst gudie says to install the ORACLE software with the oracle user.
Rgds,
Louka
