Hi
I wanted to install oracle 10g for production server. But when i going to download oracle there is 3 different downloads are exists.
* Enterprise Edition
* Standard Edition
* Standard Edition One
Which one is most suitable for production ? buying license is not an issue.

LukeAll 3 are suitable for production. Since you have to ask, you want to discuss the feature differences with your sales rep.

I have nothing under system variable but there is oracle_home Key in the registry under oracle. Deleting that key would interfere with the oracle database processes?. The HTTP Installation does let me execute mod_plsql process even after setting up DAD in DAD.Conf, as i was able to do in Oracle 9I.

Oracle 10g Lite Product Information

Hi all !
I just need a help regarding the Oracle 10g Lite product from Oracle.
I need to work on a Java/J2EE project that requires an Oracle DB as backend. I recently came to know about Oracle Lite and want some suggesstions.
My requirements:
1. I need a local Database in my "laptop". Can this software be used for that purpose.
2. I should be able to create a new schema with some tables and procedures (I thnk this is possible in Oracle Lite).
3. I have a Windows XP Home Edition. I read in many threads that Oracle Products do not work on Windows XP Home Edition. How true is this ?
4. Is Oracle Lite appropriate for my requirement.
I am reading the Oracle Lite white pages to find out more info. Please share your thoughts on this.

I do see many products under
Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.3) for Mac OS X Server New! (22-Dec-04)
prod-1. Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.3)
Enterprise/Standard Edition for Mac OS X Server
Question:
a. The doc. says, "This software is supported only on Mac OS X Server.",
Is that means,I can't install it on
"ProductName: Mac OS X, ProductVersion: 10.3.9"
prod.-2. Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 1 (10.1.0.3) for Apple Mac OS X

a. What is the difference between the product-1 and product-2.

Oracle 10g OUI Product List

I am preparing to install Oracle EE 10g R1 on a Linux box that is being set up as I type. My customer does not want a TYPICAL install but the option to limit products. Trying to be proactive, I'm trying to find the list of products you get when you choose CUSTOM install (waiting to get the list by running OUI would be a problem) but can't seem to find such a list on OTN or Metalink.
If anyone has this list, I'd really appreciate a copy. In the meantime, I'll keep looking.

Have you checked your Platform? The Installer is available for x86 and sparc platforms.
Its possible that you have downloaded the installer for x86 platform and trying to install it on the sparc platform

Sorry, I've been through all of those links without success. It actually seemed to work - except that I never got a database! There is a small problem with the "preinst" step because I'm using LVM drive partitions and the check for sufficient space on a partition doesn't work with such long names.
As for working on Ubuntu, I have searched the forums, and I don't see anything beyond "I've done it"

Blank space updatation to Collection field in Oracle 10g

we have the Oracle 9i database in the dev environment and Oracle 10g in Production environment.
In Oracle 9i, the below scenario works find, but in Oracle 10g it won'nt, The scenerio is ,
Update table1
set test_collection = ' '; -- works fine in Oracle 9i , but it wont works in Oracle 10g,
Update tabel1
set test_collection = null; -- works in both the versions.
Please suggest,.

a) Can I access the oracle database XE from a remote system without installing it on the calling system? I mean accessing it from a .NET Application installed on a client?
b) How many rows, table, views and other stuffs can it handle. Just to know how strong it is.

Please note that Oracle Lite is no longer being actively developed, and no further releases are planned. The recommended small footprint database from Oracle is Berkeley DB.

How many products/types/branches/categories/levels/editions/versions in ORACLE 10g? It is only one product like Oracle8/8i/9i or many products like Oracle 10g database, Oracle 10g Finance, Oracle 10g ....... etc. I want to learn Oracle Database and want to be a DBA. What I should do? Please Help me, I want to start.

Oracle 10g is available in Express, Standard, and Enterprise editions.

Unable to uninstall Oracle 10g products

I am on Solaris 10.5 SPARC 64 and just installed Oracle 10g successfully, but can deinstall.
I am trying to uninstall oracle products I just installed. But each time I run the Oracle Universal Installer to perform deinstall, I see "There are no installed products" on the welcome screen.
Any idea?
Here is what I am doing:
Start Oracle Universal Installer as follows:
$ $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/runInstaller
In the Welcome window, click Deinstall Products

Standard disclaimer: We don't represent Oracle. Your situation may be different because of specific wording in your particular Oracle contract, because of differences in licensing regimes over the years, because of laws in your particular country, etc. If you have a serious licensing question, you really need to address it to Oracle Sales. Explaining that some guy on the internet told you it was OK is going to be cold comfort if you're ever audited by Oracle and they disagree with my interpretation...
In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

As Anurag said, we don't even know that what version you are on at the moment and what's the need of your business. So it wouldn't be possible for us to tell what you should put in your db regarding 10g. Interestingly, you mentioned that you are running 10g so what features you saw in 10g that raised eyebrows of yours, none is it? Since you have asked , I would give a try to the new EM given by 10g but that's just one of the may new features and only you would decide what fits for you and with your application.

Does Oracle 10G XE collide with other installed Oracle products?

I have IDS 9i (Forms and Reports 9i) installed on my laptop for use with our remote database. Does Oracle 10G XE do anything with my Oracle home settings?
I have Windows XP SP1 on my laptop.

If you have Instant Client (or something that bundles the Instant Client, such as ZendCore for Oracle), in your path on Windows, then you will get problems, such as
1) The install spinning
2) SQLPlus crashing when launched
The offending DLL is called oraociei10.dll
Check to see if you have this in your environment. Search will do this for you. If you do, check to make sure that the corresponding directory is not in your path. if it is, then the fix is to remove the offending directory from your path.
