Oracle 10g installation guidance
hi every body
i am a newbie and a student.
i have EBS 12R installed over my laptop - win Xp platform.
now i want to install oracle 10 over linux platform ...
for that i am going to install "ORACLE ENTERPRISE LINUX" 1st and then oracle 10g over my laptop.
my questions is :
1-should i perform a fresh installation of my OS (XP) ->it should be clear of EBS 12R. and then linux
because i have read that oracle softwares change some registry settings ???
-if i can go ahead than i have to ask one thing more
ill be installing linux in D: drive of my laptop .now during installation there is a warning
->"the partition table over drive sda in unreadable.to create a new partition it must be initialized causing the loss of all data on the drive "
if i go for yes then is it going to delete all previous data over my hard drive ???
if yes can i avoid this situation ??
thnx for any guidance.

Oracle 10g installation on Windows 7
I am currently using Oracle 10g on my laptop running on Windows Vista. Now i am planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 7. My question here, is can I use the same Oracle 10g installable to install in windows 7 also ??
is it possible ??
thanks,
JJPossible yes? Brilliant no!
Windows 7 is totally uncertified and unsupported with all Oracle products and if you have an issue there is essentially no support or patch available.
Personally I think Vista a cruel joke so my recommendation would be to go to XP SP3 which at least has the attribute of stability or move to Linux which is what I did on one of my laptops. -

SUNWsprox package with solaris 10 for Oracle 10g Installation....
Hi
I am in problem with a Solaris 10 package "SUNWsprox - Sun workshop Bundled 64-bit make library" for Oracle 10g Installation. I checked the CDs (In the /.../products) but did't found this packege. Can any one tell me please can I go without this package or where I found this package...Please Its very URGENT for me....
Thanks
Mohammed TanvirHi...
I had the same issue, but found out that the SUNWsprox was replaced by SUNWsprot. The OUI 10.1 Release 2 will 'pass' as the doco in the Oracle quick install guide is wrong (as well as 10g Application Server).
The only way to lay a 10g Release database on Solaris 10 is to lay the software doen only, then cd in the .../bin directory, step your Rdbms ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and of course the DISPLAY (is X-windowing into the server), and run dbca manually. Oracle 10g is a bit buggy.

However, my first questions is still valid "The questions is if you followed EVERY step outlined in the Application Server Installation Guide? If you did, then there should be no errors."
I have had similar issues when environment variables was still set during installations, ORACLE_HOME etc. You must unset those, as described in the Installation Guide, before starting an installations.
Please check these two Metalink Notes:

Is Oracle AS part of Oracle 10g installation?
I had a query that is Oracle application server a part of Oracle 10g installation? I get this doubt because isqlplus which runs on port 5560 by default has a web interface.
I hope, my question is clear.
Please revert with the reply to my query.

OracleAS 10g Installation Problem on RedHat AS 3.0
Hi
I need to install OracleAS 10g on RedHat AS 3.0 and it seems that I need a patch (Patch 3006854) and the installation is impossible without it.I just started using oracleAS 10g and I dont have any metalink id.
I think something is wrong here.
a free trial version with a commercial patch !!!
can any one please help me out.
regards yashardear fredrik
I tried to install it according to the installation guid on http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleAS10gInstallationOnRedHatAS3.php as you see it asked for installation of a patch.
and yes I tried to install it without installing this patch and I got an error saying that I am missing a file named ld.so in /etc.I thought it might be connected to that patch.
beside when I was looking for the solution to my problem I saw many people having the same problem and asking the exact same question.
please notify about any solution that you think might help me solving this problem. I am in a hurry

Oracle 10G installation problem, and errors on SOLARIS 10 x86
HI.
I installed the last version of oracle 10g on a x86 SOLARIS 10 system.
When the installer arrived at Configuration assistants, the window is stopping, and I can't see forward. But when I look at the installAction.log, the installation is checked as OK (?).
When I launch sqlplus, and startup inside, it is said the ora-00205 error (problem with control files), and in the end, I'm really suprised there's no the database I told the installer to create at the beginning. But should I be surprised? As I didn't see really the end of the installation, and the installer didn't propose me the PATH where to install the DB, well, I guess there's something wrong.
Could anybody tell me how to solve these problems, please?
Thank you :)Two options:
1. Create database using DBCA - execute $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca
2. Create database manually (without DBCA) -

However, the primary network interface on the system should be configured with a static IP address in order for the Oracle Software to function properly. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.

Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.

Oracle 10g installation in an SPARC 64 bit Solaris 10 server
Good morning,
I'm trying to install Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition in a server with Solaris 10 as operating system. When I run the oui, the prerequisites part is passed but the installation gives me an error telling that the installer can't write in the /tmp directory. Nevertheless, I have writing grants and space enough in that directory, in fact the installer writes the installAction.log in this directory. So I don't understand which can be the problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
MabelIt could be you don't have enough free space on the tmp dir.
Check this point from the
Oracle® Database Installation Guide. 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit). Part Number B15690-02
If you determined that the /tmp directory has less than 400 MB of free disk space, then identify a file system with at least 400 MB of free space and set the TMP and TMPDIR environment variables to specify a temporary directory on this file system:
1. Use the df -k command to identify a suitable file system with sufficient free space.
2. If necessary, enter commands similar to the following to create a temporary directory on the file system that you identified, and set the appropriate permissions on the directory:
$ su - root
# mkdir /mount_point/tmp
# chmod a+wr /mount_point/tmp
# exit
3. Enter commands similar to the following to set the TMP and TMPDIR environment variables:
Bourne, Bash, or Korn shell:
$ TMP=/mount_point/tmp
$ TMPDIR=/mount_point/tmp
$ export TMP TMPDIR
C shell:
% setenv TMP /mount_point/tmp
% setenv TMPDIR /mount_point/tmp
