Oracle 10G instant client..

Hi,
we are upgrading Bw 3.1c to NW04s BI 7. Apart from this we need to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g.As far as oracle 10g client is concerned, Is it mandatory to use the oracle instant client? Otherwise we can still use the old oracle client?
Please let me if anybody has any idea about it.
Thank you in advance.
SS

Hello SS,
From NW04S kernel 7.00 onwards oracle instant client is mandatory.Instant Client is a smaller version of the oracle client software which is being shipped with SAP kernels 700 onwards. The basic philosophy that the version of the client software depends on the version of the SAP kernel. The SAP kernel 700 and upwards are all linked against Oracle 10g. Hence the Oracle 10g client software needs to be installed on all 700 kernel based application servers.
Please refer to snotes: 819829 and 180430.

  • Oracle 10g instant client installation

    hi,
im trying to install the instant client needed on our sparc solaris server and i have a little background on solaris and java (took a few classes in college) and now i'm being asked to install the instantclient to our server.
according to the instructions on the link:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/solaris/instantclient/111060/basic-11.1.0.6.0-solaris-sparc64.zip
however, im not really used to the open source environment and i have already followed up to the step 3, i extracted the files to a to the directory /oracle/app/instantclient and typed the command "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/oracle/app/instantclient" and now i have no idea what to do next. i tried running all of the other files in the zip file but i only encounter errors.
    pls help me T_T

    Hi,
I have an application that uses Oracle 11gr2. For the Oracle client installation, I first install InstantClient and then run the setup again, choose Custom, and choose "Oracle Database Utilities" since the InstantClient doesn't have exp/imp with it.
My question is, instead of doing 2 steps for installation, how can I just do it once? What corresponding option(s) do I have to select in Custom mode to install InstantClient? Here's a link to a pic for the complete list of items available: http://i.stack.imgur.com/gUT7g.jpg
    Thanks.
    "choose?"
    "Custom"?
    an installation GUI?
That doesn't sound like Instant client.
That sounds like the normal fat client.
What is the name of the file you downloaded?

  • ORACLE 10 INSTANT CLIENT:The procedure entry point OCILobRead2 could not...

    The problem still remain:
I've installed oracle 10g instant client
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production on Wed Jan 10 12:43:40 20
    PHP VERSION: php-5.2.0 for Win32
    APACHE VERSION: apache_2.0.59 for WIN32
But I've the same old error when I try to restart Apache:
The procedure entry point OCILobRead2 could not be located in the dinamic link library OCI.dll
Is there anyone who can help me to solve this kind of problem?
    Thanks in advance.

The solution is that you need to have Oracle 10g client side libraries
installed (or you have to recompile PHP yourself). The oci8 extension
has some version dependent code and the person who builds Windows PHP
builds it with the latest version of Oracle. I was discussing the
impact of this just this week.
Luckily Oracle Instant Client can be downloaded and used for free from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html

  • Compiling against the 10g Instant Client in Linux

Does anyone know if it's possible to compile and successfully link C++ programs that use the occi header against the 4 shared occi libraries that come with the 10g instant client.
I dug out the 30 or so header files that come with the full 10g Linux version and stuck them in the /usr/include directory. This allows compilation to get done. And it appears that I am able to link against the shared libraries. At least, after the link there is an executable. This executable seg faults immediately upon a run, so there is obviously something wrong.
The system administrator is trying to do a full install of 10g so we can compile against an Oracle home, but he's been at it for about a week with no results. He was able to get the Instant Client set up, so I'm looking for a workaround that uses only the IC and the headers.

    Thanks for the feedback.
    We aren't using a 3.xx version of gcc; it's some 2.9x version.
Are you saying that it should be possible to link up with the shared libs without a full client install? If it is, I'll keep plugging away; but I haven't found anyone anywhere who has at any time gotten it to work.

  • Cx_Oracle & Oracle's Instant Client

Hello there, first time here :) , im having many issues trying to set up cx_Oracle module on my Ubuntu OS. My question is if the Oracle's Instant Client version it must be the same as my Oracle's Server Version ??

There is no Oracle requirement for the client & database libraries to be exact. For example, Instant Client 11g will connect to 10g databases.
If you have a database on the same machine as Instant Client then you need to be careful about which tools pick up which of the two sets of Oracle libraries. This is a common problem for Windows users.
Also on Windows you do need to match the Oracle libraries to those that whatever tool (e.g. cx_Oracle) was built with.

  • 10G Instant client and import command

    Hi all,
Am using the 10G instant client and need to use the import command through this client but cannot find it anywhere. Does the 10G instant client provide this functionality or anyone know of a workaround for this.
    All replies much appreciated,
    Tom

Thats a pity. I thought I read someplace that you dont lose any client functionality by using the instant client as opposed to using the client cd install. Is it just that the instant client replicates the connection functionality of a normal 300mb client install?

  • Cannot install oracle 10g R1 client on redhat as 4

I've got an oracle 10g r2 XE rdbms installed on a redhat as 4 system.
I am trying to install the pro*c precompiler on this system because it is not included in the 10g r2 installation. It's not included in the 10g r2 client either. Is oracle planning to drop support for this or what's going on with that?
I am now trying to install the oracle 10g r1 client for linux since it has the pro*c compiler included (or so I've read).
When I try to run the installer, it responds with:
Checking operating system version: must be readhat-2.1, readhat-3, SuSE-9, or UnitedLinux-1.0
    Failed <<<<
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)
    Kernel version 2.6.9-42.ELsmp i686
    Werner

Does the logfile of the installer show more detailled error messages?
Try starting the installer with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.

  • How to connect oracle 10g XE client to XEserver on win XP

    Hi ,
i am using oracle 10g express edition. i installed oracle 10 xe server it is working fine but how can i connect oracle 10g xe client to this server becouse there is no net configuaration nad Migration tools and also net configuation Assistant . can you explain
    Regards,

The computer running XE server does not need a client installed.
If you are trying to connect from another computer, install the XE client and create file C:\XEClient\NETWORK\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA with the following contents (replace ip_address as appropriate):
    XE =
        (DESCRIPTION =
           (ADDRESS_LIST =
              (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ip_address)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =

    {code:java}
    sqlplus SYSTEM/password@XE
    {code}

  • Where can I download the Oracle 10g R2 clients for Windows 7?

Where can I download the Oracle 10g R2 clients for Windows 7?

    Welcome to the forums !
Pl identify exact versions of "10gR2" and Windows 7. The only certified combination is 10.2.0.5 on Win 7 Professional or higher. Home version of Windows is not supported. Using uncertifed combinations will result in the software not working as advertised.
See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b14264/toc.htm#CIHCFAGA (see Step 4 - the 10.2.0.5 patch can only be downloaded by paying support customers at https://support.oracle.com)

  • Oracle 11g INSTANT CLIENT for Mac OS 10.8 with SQLLDR and WRAP

To Oracle please upgrade INSTANT Client 11g and/or 12c (future) and include two additional utilities I always use SQLLDR and WRAP. Currently I have to open a Linux VM to wrap and use SQL*Loader. I would prefer to do it all in the terminal window.
Actually I would like to see sqlldr and wrap utilities included with all instant clients (Linux, Windows, Mac OS, etc)

Can you see the difference? (btw i am sure, genezi -v as sidadm worked with 11.2.0.1)

Read the documentation (I have given following links assuming you are running a 32 bit architecture)
    Server installations:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=install.102%2Fb14316%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Books%29
    Client installations:

  • Unable to install 64-bit Oracle ODBC Instant Client on Windows 2008 R2 machine.

I am trying to upgrade the Oracle ODBC driver from the 32-bit version currently installed (ODBC Instant Client Release 10.1.0.5.0, April 2006) to a newer 64-bit version but have not been successful.  I have had success at uninstalling and reinstalling the existing 32-bit version package (release 10.1.0.5.0) however when I've tried to install the 64-bit ODBC Instant Client (Release 12.1, December 2012), I run the odbc_install.exe application inside the package.  it appears to run without issue/compliant, but then I do not see the 64-bit Oracle ODBC driver anywhere, either if I go via the traditional Administrator Tools --> ODBC Data Sources or if I go to the c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe route.  Further investigation into the ReadMe file (ODBC_IC_Readme_Win.html) reveals that you need the 3 DLLs oci.dll, oraociei11.dll and orannzsbb11.dll which the package does not come with. Where could I obtain the correct version of these DLLs or else where can I get an installation package which already contains them?
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.  Thank you

  • Windows 7, Oracle DB, Instant Client and VBScript

I'm trying to to connect to a Oracle database via vbs on a Windows 7 machine using the instant client.  I get an error [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]Ora-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error Code 80004005.  Script still works fine in XP using the Microsoft ODBC for oracle.  I've setup the system dsn, and added tns_admin option to the system environmental path.  Here's the connection line
    psconn.Open "DRIVER={Oracle in instantclient_11_2};SERVERNAME=192.168.50.1:1521/PSPRODDB;User Id=user;Password=pass;"
I've tried 32 bit instant client and the 64 bit and get the same messages with both.  Any suggestions?

12560 means you didnt supply a tnsnames alias, and a database was not found in that home.
    Try this:
       "DRIVER={Oracle in instantclient_11_2};DBQ=192.168.50.1:1521/PSPRODDB;uid=user;pwd=pass;"
    Using Oracle ODBC Driver
    Hope it helps,
