Oracle 10g intelligent agent
Hi,
I can see the agenctl and dbsnmp in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin for 9i installations but I can't see any of that for the 10g install. Can someone please point me to where the agent executables and control scripts reside on a 10g install?
Or the agent does not come with the 10g database software?
Thanks
wait,
there is no Intelligent Agent in 10g.
There is new kind of agent, the Enterprise Manager 10g agent. You deploy only one 10g agent per host, and it will monitor not only all your databases, but also your file systems and operating system.
You can have both agents running, the Intelligent Agent (8i/9i) and the Grid Control Agent (10g).
There is no way, as far as I know, to upgrade your 9i agent to 10g. You have to configure your Grid. The agents are not at all compatible, they do not use the same port and they do not use the same protocol (the 10g agent use HTTP).

Oracle 8i Intelligent Agent Service problem
Hi!
We successfully installed Oracle 8i (8.1.7 ee) on Intel P-IV (Xeon) server running Windows 2000 Advanced server (Service Pack 2). It was working properly until now. There was no problem in implementing the tricks useful in installation. After that, database service "OracleService<DBName>" presented problem by not automatically starting on computer startup but it was tamed by "Oradim" command added to startup folder.
All was going smoothly for about a month now but when I rebooted the server PC yesterday, the service "Oracle<HomeName>Agent" failed to start. Along with it the DataGatherer and TNSListener services also failed (Only db service OracleService<DBName> starts but very very slowly). The Windows Event Viewer descriped the problme for Agent service as ,"The Oracle<HomeName>Agent service terminated with the following error: %%3221356551 ". The Event ID is always 7023 for this error. The rest of services just don't give any error codes. It is also stated that nothing has been installed/Uninstalled on this PC in the last several days and no configration changes, in tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, listener.ora, win registry has been made. The TCP/IP configration are intact and NTFS folder and file rights are properly defined.
Starting the service using "Net Start <service_name>" also failed with the message,"System error 7 has occured, Storage control blocks will be destroyed".
Searching online, I also performed some steps in correcting the problem like backup and delete all *.q, snmp_ro.ora, snmp_rw.ora, services.ora files. But to no help. The log files in Oracle_Home\network\logs also dont record the problem even after setting the trace level to Admin or 16. The Agent service simply refuses to start...
Reinstalling Oracle (over existing one, not first removing it altogether. We simply cann't do this now for data loss!!!) or just the Intelligent Agent itsself using univeral installer also fails at the end when it tries to start the intellegent Agent Service Oracle<HomeName>Agent. This time the error described is "O/S error in starting service".
Is this something to do with Xeon server coz the same Oracle 8i is installed much before than this on another P-IV server (not xeon) running the same Op system and it never presented us this problem todate. Its also worth mentioning that this problem occured before as well, on the second day we installed Oracle 8i the first time on Xeon. Since there was no data then, we simply removed oracle, cleared registry and started all over again BUT now it cann't be done.
Any help shall be highly appreciated.
With Regards, Rashid.
SeaBird505 at yahoo.comThanks for stopping by this thread. Problem has been resolved from another forum. Actually c:\oracle folder was accessable to administrator only, when I added 'Everyone' to the permission list as well, everything started fine. Allowing 'Everyone' to this folder is dangerous but its working for now :)

OEM 9i Supporting 10g Intelligent Agents
Hello.
We currently use OEM 9.2.0.1 for monitoring and tracking of our 9i database instances. I want to add in our application server when we go live with iAS 9.0.4.1. We're currently running 1.0.2.2, which of course is well behind the times. Will the 10g iAS Intelligent Agent communicate with a 9i EM? If so, are there any limitations, or special considerations I need to take into account? Thanks.Nope. Totally different architectures.

Oracle 9i Intelligent Agent Failure on startup in Windows XP

I have uninstaled the 10g, i still have the same problem.

10g grid agent installation and configuration on oracle RAC
Hi All,
I have one two node RAC setup on HP-UX itanium platform and I want to install oracle 10g grid agent on both the RAC nodes to monitor the RAC instances and databases and OMS repository server is ready and running. Only I have installed agents on both the nodes, but tns entry and hosts files on OMS server and both the nodes modified.
But, nodes are not getting automatically discovered by OMS server. And what is the command to configure the grid agent on RAC instances.
I have to install grid agent on both the nodes individually or it can be installed on single node and can be integrated with other node.
Please help me out in this regard.......
Thanks in Advance,
Sukanta Paul.
Edited by: sukanta paul on Aug 18, 2009 10:16 PMSimilar problem and installation does not detect the rac nodes and installation is done locally which does not help the situation..By the way we all consult documentation and the whole point of having a forum is so we have a potential fix or work around and not link from here to documentation. Just to mention :)

Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g in same machine
I have Oracle 9i in a machine. I wanted to install Oracle 10g in the same machine.
I tried installed, and Oracle 10g worked ok.
I have the following problems:
1. Oracle 9i is not starting up. {Oracle 9i Intelligent Agent Failure on startup}
2. I need to use Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g simultaneously.
If any one have experianced this please help to resolve the issue.
Thanks in advance.
SriniYou must use 2 different homes, and later you have to take care of your environment variables, and you must use only one listener in this case the highest version that is 10g.
Tell us: did you install in the same ORACLE_HOME?
Give us details.

Oracle intelligent agent executable has encountered a problem and needs to
Hi All,
I am getting the following message after commence of OS (windows XP) on my LAPTOP.
"Oracle Intelligent Agent Executable has Encountered a Problem and needs to close."
due to the above problem it takes time to be fit to start working. that is; when i start my laptop then it gets ready very shortly but just later on it is seen that my laptop gets to be hanged. it seems that some background process runs and during this time nothing can be done on my laptop (even REFRESH - F5 doesn't respond). then after some time the above message comes. this process seems to be very much annoying.
there is a small Oracle database (9i) in my laptop along with Oracle developer (10g).
Thanks in advance.Hi Tapash,
You probably don't want/need that service to run anyway. So go to your control panel/Adminstrative Tools/Services
and set Start Type to Manual for Oracle<ORACLE_HOME_NAME>Agent service

Oracle Intelligent Agent Exe encountered a problem and needed to close
Whenever the server is rebooted I get the error "Oracle Intelligent Agent Executable encountered a problem and needed to close". The agent won't start, and I found a work around that included deleting files from the network/agent and admin folders, then restarting the agent. This works, however the next time the server reboots I have to go through all of this again. Any ideas why this keeps occurring?
Also, what does this agent do? I've read through some documentation and can't quite tell if I actually need it started. Do you use this agent to only remotely monitor/administer through OEM? I'm really confused and could use some insight. All my process appear to be working fine.Because of the error message I guess you are on Windows and database version is lower than 10g (by the way it's always a good idea to tell the environment, because Oracle runs on different platforms in different versions).
... 'encountered a problem and needed to close' is generic Windows error message with millions of possible reasons. So it's not possible to find remotely a solution. You are right, Intelligent Agent is a counterpart of OEM, but outside production environments rarely needed. I recommend you change the service properties from 'automatic' to 'manual' in control panel. So it does not start at reboot time.

Intelligent Agent in 10g?
Hi,
we are currently setting up a DB 10g. On the old 9i system we used to start the intelligent agent among other oracle services. Now the Suse orarun script fails to start the agent because neither agentctl is in $ORACLE_HOME/bin nor is "lsnrctl dbsnmp_start" a valid statement anymore.
Is just the orarun script outdated or do we have to install the agent on our own? Or is it even completely obsolete since 10g?
Thanks for your help. Can any one help me please ?

Oracle Intelligent Agent Executable
Hi there, Has anyone experienced this before.
When I tried to boot up my P4 1.8GHz laptop, it takes ages and eventually comes up with a dialogue box with Oracle Intelligent Agent Executable.
I have increased my virtual memory but still no improvement.
When I click on sent report, it takes me to Microsoft where I am directed on to contact Oracle.
I remembered when I instalIed Oracle Enterprise 9i, everything seemed fine until I downloaded Developer Suite 10g, and installed it in a different directory, then it started.
Any ideas
Many thanks in advance

Oracle 10g - Vista Business - Agent unreachable in EM
Hi,
I can't seem to get the agent to be seen from EM.
Here is my config:
Windows Vista Business - Oracle 10g R2
I have done the following:
- secured the dbconsole
- made sure that the OS user has admin rights & can log on as a batch job
- env. vars ORACLE_SID and EMHOSTNAME are set
The agent log shows no errors (start and shutdown successfully).
The emoms.log shows:
2009-11-24 09:32:54,545 [HttpRequestHandler-15512561] ERROR eml.OMSHandshake processFailure.619 -
OMSHandshake failed.(AGENT URL = https://DBServer:3938/emd/main)(ERROR = KEY_MISMATCH)
I have seen some threads where people advise to unsecure the dbconsole but I don't know how to do it.
Can anyone help ? I have done many changes, but nothing seems to make it work and I am a bit lost.
Thanks !

Oracle 10g agent installation problem -- please advice. Thanks.
I am trying to push an agent from a 32-bit CentOS 4.5 machine (where I successfully installed EM Grid Control with Database & that's working fine) to a 2-node Oracle 10g Clusterware/RAC, each machine has 64-bit CentOS 4.5. The questions I have are:
1. Is this mixture of 32-bit/64-bit possible?
2. When I am performing agent install, everything seemed to work (with manual root.sh execution provision) but at the end it's giving a message
"Failure Preinstall Script Not Executed, Install Is Failed. Run root.sh Is Not Executed, PostInstall Script Is Not Executed. Collection Logs Is Success."
And I don't see any agent* directory anywhere in any of the intended RAC Cluster nodes -- also, no error message log!
Clusterware/RAC versin: 10.2.0.3
EM Grid Control: 10.2.0.1
I have no clue what are the meaning of these!
Can somebody please tell me how to fix it (no upgrade suggestion please)?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
I noticed that you'd like to install OEM Agent for 32bit on 64-bit machine.
Please look at the link below.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html#101x
Because OEM Agent on different platform are released separately.
eg.
For x86linux is Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip
For Linux x86-64 is Linux_x86_64_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip
So could you please install OEM agent version for linx x86-64 ?
but I can not find OEM agent 10.2.0.1 version on link above. Do you have this version for 64-bit ?

Jason
