Oracle 10g logon to database

Today was my first introduction to Oracle ever. I've installed Oracle Enterprise but my problem is that I do not know how to change the database I'm working on. I'm using OEM http://carlo003.xyz.local:5500/em/ to administer the databases but when I logon it default to the same one every time, the one I create during setup. I've created another database using the Database Configuration Assistant , so I know it's there, I just cannot find options to change it.Where in that console do I select other databases? Regards

Each individual database has it its own database console (EM). If you have multiple databases you will have multiple EM and associated URLs.
Try the following and see if connects to your second dbconsole.
http://carlo003.xyz.local:5501/em/
There are multiple ways to find the URL for the dbconsole, one way is to set the oracle sid and issue emctl status dbconsole.

  • Oracle 10g express Edition Database

We are using oracle 10g express edition with a temporary storage space for a class using SQL. When creating and using the database, the data is being deleted after 1 or 2 days and students are having to start over, creating tables and inserting data. Any suggestions?

    suggestions?Backups?
Or, as long as the DDLs and DMLs don't take long, rerunning table create and insert SQLs would probably be much faster than setting up the database(s) in archivelog mode and copying datafile/archivelog files or rman backup files someplace that won't get reimaged every other day.

  • Installation of Oracle 10g und 9i Database on one Windows 2003 Srv System

    Hello,
I would like to install Oracle 9i and 10g database on the same server.
OS is Windows 2003 Server default.
I already read that i must do some adjustments (regarding ORACLE_HOME / SIDs ..)
anyone here who knows something about this ?
    Thank you
    Philip

    Yep.
Install 9i and when it asks for a port to install the listener pick something other than 1521. (1522 should work).
Then the Oracle 10g installation should go without a hitch.

  • Error in Oracle 10g "Go To Database Home Page"

I just downloaded the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and successfully installed it. But when I click on the "Go to Database Home Page" from the start menu, a new browser window opens up but nothing actually loads on the page. The browser seems to be trying to load the page forever. The URL that is being tried to load seems to be correct: http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex. I am using IE version 6.0 on Windows XP. Can somebody help me what I am doing wrong?

Before you proceed with this troubleshooting tecnique, verify the contents of the alertXE.log file, if some issues are reported there, to make you think it is a lack of temporary tablespaces, then proceed as follows:
This alter tablespace command is issued from a sqlplus prompt.
Once you have installed your OracleXE it starts your database and listner processes. Before accessing sqlpus, ensure you have properly defined environment variables:
    ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID
    PATH
Once you have ensured your environment is properly configured, connect as sysdba
    sqlplus / as sysdba
This will open your SQL prompt, from there you can issue the commands.

  • Removing Oracle 10g Databases

Hi, I'm currently running Oracle 10g with multiple databases in it. Two are old and useless to us.
I'm having trouble removing the two databases because I do not know the login/password.
Any easy way to remove them?

Well, you need to delete the following files.
    Key Files
    - Datafiles
    - Control Files
    - Redo log files
    Non-Key Files
    - Archive log (if exists)
    - Pfile (or spfile)
    - password file
    and
    - files from bdump
    - files from cdump
    - files from udump
Having said you must login to database to find out the correct key-files since you mentioned you are running multiple databases.
Try to create a new password file and login into the database before you try to to it the hard way.
    Thanks,
    Ankit.

  • OWB on Oracle 10G Release 2

    Dear all,
I planned to use an Oracle 10G Release 2 database for a new OWB project. Research on the web just told me that this new version of the database does not support OWB, because of a check for DBA privileges.
The website advises to either use an earlier version of the database (10g R1) or wait for the release of the 10.1.0.4 patch for OWB.
Is this patch available at this moment? If so, can anyone tell me where I can download it? If not, does anyone know when this patch will be released?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul Versluis

    Hi,
    I have installed 10.1.0.4 OWB on Suse 9.3 and Suse 10 x86.
I sent correction notes to Oracle Documentation team as there were a few errors for the Linux Install.
More importantly i found in 10.1.0.4 one of the key install shell scripts will never work as the coders forgot to export a JAVAPATH variable meaning the script could never find the JRE
Good to see ORACLE test the installation of their releases
When i get back from Bew Year holiday i will send you my notes if you like

  • Connect from Windows Client to Oracle 10g for Windows 64-bit

Have an environment currently running Oracle 10g 32-bit on Windows 2000 Standard, and need to migrate to Oracle 10g 64-bit for Windows. Users connect to the 10g 32-bit database using the Oracle Client for Windows 10g loaded on remote PC's. If we migrate to the Oracle 10g 64-bit on Windows 2003 Server Enteprise Edition 64-bit, what type of client do I have to install on the PC's to access the Oracle 10g 64-bit database?
Any ehlp/insight will be greatly appreciated.
    Eduardo in Michigan

In addition to install 32-bit Oracle client to 32-bit Windows OS, you need to know whether your application is compiled to run in 32-bit or 64-bit.
This is critical because 32-bit application can not see 64-bit Oracle ODBC and OLE DB provider.
For example, MS SQL Server 2005 uses 32-bit DTS, and SSIS, which needs 32-bit Oracle client
If you don't know, get a copy of both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle client, and try one-by-one to know for sure. Please be aware that if regsvr32.exe in the Windows has been overwritten by older software installation, it won't register some DLL properly, and Oracle ODBC, or OLE DB won't show up as well

  • Oracle 10g/11g to Sql Server 2005 Migration

    Dear All,
I am a beginner to this migration Activities..
We have designed one Application which is havin Database as Oracle 10g.
and We had another small Application which is having Sql Server 2005 has Database.
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..
Pls help me how to convert Database in Oracle 10g/11g to Database in sqlserver 2005..

    Hello,
this is an Oracle forum and we are handling here migrations from foreign databases to an Oracle database.
For migrations in the other direction, in your case from Oracle to MS SQL Server, you need to read the Microsoft pages, e.g.:
    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration.aspx
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..Normally a migration is not a daily process, so I guess that you just want to transfer data from Oracle to SQL Server on a daily basis. If that is the case, you should consider to use our Gateways. Please start reading here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/gateways/index-100140.html
Using the Database Gateway for MS SQL Server (DG4MSQL) or the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) you can copy your data from your Oracle database to your SQL Server database, using a database link in the Oracle database.
Please let me know whether this answer helped you.
    Regards
    Wolfgang
