Oracle 10g not in sysconfig on Suse Pro 9.1

I installed Oracle 10.1.0.3.0 on Suse Professional 9.1. It installed OK and works fine, but I ran into a problem when I wanted to automatically start the database upon boot. According to the official Suse guide (
http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/10gR1_sles9_install.pdf ), chapter 4, I must change a setting in the sysconfig editor. However, there is no 'Productivity' node in the tree. And the oracle subtree is nowhere to be found.
A second option that I found would be changing a settig in the /etc/sysconfig/oracle file, but this file is not present either.
Now, I'm not afraid of creating a script that automatically starts Oracle at boot time, but I prefer to do it the 'official' way.
Can anybody help me fixing this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Anne van der Bom
Can anybody tell me, why the

I feel kinda silly. I posted the answer to my own question.
It's all in the SuSE pdf file. I only found out about it AFTER I installed Oracle. Since I already installed Oracle successfully, I skipped most of it.
After installing orarun-1.8-109.5.i586.rpm, all worked as advertised.

  • Oracle 10g not releasing space after delting the records

    Hello
We have a tool which uses Oracle 10g as database. We have been deleting records from the tool and the table space does not show any improvements in the free space. When we have taken the dump and recreated the schema all the unused space is visible. Before recreating the schema database was showing 17.5 GB after recreatig it has hardly 1G which is real. Clearly this is not recommended on a production environemt. Please suggest.

By performing DELETE operations you will not get back the used space. Extents are still allocated to the segments. To free unused extents you may have to do one of the following:
    1) move table within the same tablespace
    2) shrink the table
    3) exp/imp

  • Oracle 10g not installing successfully in Windows Vista.

    Dear Gurus,

Please tell me whether Oracle 10g is supported in Windows Vista. If not what is the version of Oracle should I install. I urgently need Oracle Database to be installed in my Laptop, please suggest what can be done.
    Thank you.
    With Kind Regards,

  • Oracle 10g Not able to loging in Window 7

    Hi All
I have Installed the Oracle 10 g in my Laptop , the Operating System is Windows 7 Profisional (ut 64bit) oracle was installed successfully , after that i am not able to loging the oracle
once i entered the Credential not able to login , screen i disappears , but same software installed in Window XP successuly login
could you please provide me any septd need to do in window 7
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards

Since Windows 7 was released after the 10g releases, the Installation Guide does not include Windows 7. In this case, the Certification should be checked before proceeding.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/fusion_certification.html
From here, you will find that 10.1.2 is certified on Windows 7 only in some cases. For example, using iDS, it is certified on Windows 7 32 bit.
You only said Oracle 10g, so perhaps you are on an Oracle Database version. If so, this is not a Forum for the Oracle Database product.

How do I make Oracle 10g appear in Home selector . I had oracle 8i installed previous.

Oracle moved "Home selector" functionality to Oracle Universal Installer.

  • Oracle 10g not starting after upgarde

    Hi,
Oracle not starting after upgrade and this service not starting automatically . This is error giving in the event viewer
    Description:
The OracleDEV102iSQL*Plus service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
    Cheers
    Murali

    Hi,
I cannot explain what went wrong.
The error indicate that the upgrade is not finished or an error happened during the upgrade.
Please, review the alert log and the upgrade logs.
    There are some possibilities:
    - First one is to finish the upgrade to Oracle 10.2 manually. Please,  check the Metalink notes:
Note 316889.1 - Complete checklist for manual upgrades to 10gR2
Note:420146.1 - What is the Best Way to Upgrade to 10g?
    - Second option is to restore the database to a point before the  upgrade. In this case, you have to use the Oracle 9.2 software as  well and need to restart the upgrade from the beginning.

  • Help with Oracle 10g--SYSDBA password

    Hi,
I installed oracle 10g on my machine ( WIN XP Pro, 512 RAM ) . Installation was Ok and then I created a database which was created successfully.
But now I am trying to SQL PLUS to logon to database to run some scripts . I ma trying to login as SYS but it says I can only login in as SYSDBA or SYSOPR .
Problem is that while creating database it never asked for SYSDBA or SYSOPR passwords and I am just thinking may be there is a default password for these?
Please let me know how can I connect to database to run some scripts?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Khushhal Mahajan, Oracle Corporation has upgraded the database creation procedure from version 9i, that if database is created that prompts for a password. At that time we cannot use the default password & more over SYSDBA & SYSOPR are not user logins they are psudeo roles. So you must remember the admin password which will be prompted at the end of the installation. Try the following
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
Before this set the environment variable to your database instance.
If you are connected alter the sys and system user and change the password.

  • Performance tuning oracle 10G on Windows 2003

    Hi,
At present we have 8GB physical RAM on Production server while the parameters sga_max_size = 1 GB and pga_aggregate_target = 629 MB are defined.
When I hit transaction ST02 I observed that values for swaps are showing in red color for program, screen, Export/import, generic key buffers etc. We cannot restart the SAP more than once in a week, and it increases the number of swaps.
We have plan to increase the buffer size by twice for program, screen, Export/import, CUA, Nametab, generic key buffers etc. The addition of current value for all this buffers is defined up to 350MB.
I want to know if I increase this value by twice is it cause any problem to system or I need to increase the size of sga_max_size and pga_aggregate_target also.
Is sga_max_size and pga_aggregate_target parameters are related to program buffer or screen buffer or generic key buffers.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Unable to install apex listener in oracle 10g xe

    Hi,
i have oracle 10g xe in my window xp pro and upgraded it to application express 4 i.e apex...after that i downloaded apex lisntener1.10. and read the documentations and confused about installing and configuring it. Because i think it require jdk6 ...please help me..show me the step by step process do it...thanks

It requires a separate application server that uses jdk16. Free servers/containers would include Tomcat 6 and Glassfish 3.
You can continue to use the included EPG that runs your Apex currently also, without an additional server setup.
