Oracle 10g on Mac OSX

Hi
I would like to get Oracle 10g up and running on my Mac Powerbook under OSX 10.4.3 NOT server. is it possible? I last tried an install under 10.3.9 and it all worked until bind time and then failed binding to some library or another. Anyone got any experience of this?
In case you are wondering why I would do this, it is so I can get up to speed on 10g at home and out of the office, I dont plan to run a production server on a laptop.

I'm getting the exact same error. Have you found any additional info?

We just downloaded Oracle 10G release 1 for Mac OSX. However, we would like to know when Oracle will announce an updated version for Mac OSX (10G release 2) on Intel. Any news on this?

Seems to be still not planned.
Maybe see and/or ask into metalink and to your Oracle support.

  • Oracle 10g for Mac OS X

I was just reading the session list for Apple's WWDC this year at:
    http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/descriptions/descriptions-eit.html
Understanding Oracle 10g for Mac OS X
Come to this session to learn about Oracle's latest grid-based relational database solution, Oracle 10g. Grid computing reduces the cost of IT by clustering servers together to function as a single large computer, shifting resources dynamically between applications. Attend this session if you are an in-house developer looking for a highly scalable and reliable database on Mac OS X Server.
Hopefully this means we will see 10g on our favorite platform sooner rather than later.

As I understand it from what I read somewhere here on Technet about month ago, there will be COMMERICIAL release of 10g on MacOSX.
Wouldn't that be just great? Run Oracle on a G5 X-Serve and OSX Panther instead of running it on some Wintel box with geeky Linux! I can hardly wait. This DBA will have his own G4 2x1 GHz ready!
FACT is : it will probably be a few more months but then again 10g has been released for other less mainstream platforms fairly quickly.
    Cheers,

  • How to install oracle 10g in MAC OS X LION

Can some one help me in installing oracle 10g in my mac os xlion.. I also need to know where can i download ORACLE 10g for mac ??

    Hi,
About installing Oracle 10g in OS X Lion, I think you may need to install in other platform such as LINUX. Because Oracle 10g R2 installer packages were removed from OTN site which it may end-of-support.

  • Oracle 10g on Mac OS X

So what do you think about Oracle releasing Oracle 10g on Mac OS X? Overall, I think it's a vote of confidence from Oracle's part on OS X's viability and potential in the enterprise. Especially since Oracle has also released their development tools for OS X as well.
    - What are your thoughts on Oracle on Mac OS X?
    - Has anyone here installed Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Is your current employer considering Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Do you think it's a good idea for Oracle to release 10g on Mac OS X?
I initally learned that Oracle released 10g on Mac OS X when I learned about the following site. It's goal is to get people to switch to Mac.

    can i install 10g on mac os x 10.5.6 ???
i searched on net but it was saying i have to have Mac os X server????
Plz guide me i didnt find any suitable article on net till now...also let me knw where i can find step by step proc to install
    thanks for your help.

MACOSX 10.4 (Tiger OS) PowerPC based systems is certified on Oracle Database release 10gR1 (10.1.0.5).
well, the certification tab doesnt talk about Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard). I don't think it's not certified yet. But if its for learning purpose, you can always give it a try. :)

While there isn't an Oracle database version for the Intel chip set, you can install a VMWare Fusion virtual machine and access the database from the Mac OS natively. The Mac Leopard version of the Oracle Client software was released a few months ago. You can find instructions for configuring the Oracle Client software on my blog:

Snow Leopard and Lion are currently not supported. Others have attempted installs on these two versions, with varying degrees of success.

Use google to find many blog posts such as this one - http://www.nfjsone.com/blog/rick__denatale/2011/07/installing_oracle_on_os_x_snow_leopard
One other option is to install Oracle on a VM - use VirtualBox (free download from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) VM to create a VM where Oracle Linux (free download from https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux) can be installed - then install either 10gR2 or 11gR2 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html) in the OEL VM

  • Oracle Client for Mac OSX

I have an Oracle 9i Database Server on Windows 2000, but I'd like to access it
from my MAC running OSX. I've installed the DBI interface for MacPerl, but cannot
get the DBD::Oracle Driver installed, because I don't have the ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/demo/oracle.mk
    makefile.
Can anyone point me to where I can download the oracle.mk file for Oracle9i? And/or is there an Oracle9i client
    for us Mac users?

As of now Oracle ODBC driver is not supported on MacOS platform. That's why ODBC Instant Client Package is missing in that page.

  • Create mount point on Mac OS for Oracle 10g

I am trying to install Oracle 10g on Mac OS. The current mount point is "/". But I want to create a mount point like "/u01" so that the Oracle home path will be /u03/app/oracle. The question is how to create this mount point /u01 on MAC OS? Please advise.
    Thanks
    S.

Mount points are traditionally simple (and empty) directories.
A directory becomes a mount point when it is used in the mount command. Typical *nix sequence is
    mkdir /u01
    mount <type information> <source disk> /u01 -o <options>
What the docs are referring to is the Oracle (or Optimal) Flexible Architecture and the assumption is that you have additional drive partitions available. In that case
    mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb1 /u01
    would do the trick.
In your case, assuming you have enough disk space on the root file system, and assuming this is not for a production environment, just stop at the 'mkdir /u01' and you;ll be fine. Then 'mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle' and 'chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01' so that you can use '/u01/app/oracle' as your ORACLE_BASE in the install, and '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1' as the ORACLE_HOME (which will become the defaults if you set ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle before you start the installer)
For a production system, it is generally insane to use one disk and put Oracle database & s/w on the root disk - 'eggs in one basket' kind-a thing.

did you get a satisfactory response on your question re oracle 10g on os x snow leopard?  I am curious as I have been 'struggling' with it for a few days now.  To my experience thusfar, the oracle files provided are not up to date with current java versions or os x leopard and require some tweaking.  my own answer to your question is that it does appear that you can install and run oracle 10g on mac os x snow leopard, but it seems to be a little hacky to get through it all.  Some information here, other information there, haven't yet found a single source that has all the play by play and gotcha fixes documented.  I am rsisting nuking my debian install on amd64 just to put fedoracore which does appear to be a supported env for oracle 10 on linux.

  • Oracle 9i Client Install on Mac OSX

Is there a way to just install the Oracle client on Mac OSX 10.2.7 (not OS X Server)?
I downloaded the 9.2 Mac installer, but everything I've seen/read shows this installation will install the DB server and set up a database.
If anyone knows, please let me know... I'm just looking to connect (through PHP CLI) to a Oracle DB within our corporation. Thanks.

  • Attempt to Obfuscate password failed 10G on MAC

    Hi,
I am trying to install oracle 10g on MAC OS 10.4.8.
I am getting usual linker errors for which there is some information in this forum But I am not able to get solution for Attempt to obfuscate password failed error.
I am consistantly getting this error while installation.
Can somebody please help me out to get ride of this error....!!
    Thanks in advance...

I'm not sure whether this will help on MAC, but on some Linux platforms there's a similar problem, which is related to the JAVA environment. The given solution is:
    1. Log in as the user who is going to install the Oracle software
    2. export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
    3. Remove any references to JAVA from your environment settings. For example, if your PATH
contains, /usr/bin/java, remove it. Make sure there is no reference to any Java environment.
    4. In oraparam.ini from Disk1/install/ change to:
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx400m"
    from
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx300m"
    5. If OUI asks for JDK_HOME, manually specify the same. If required, ask your system administrator
for the location of JAVA installation.

  • Round trip export/import from Mac OSX iCal

Since there isn't an iSync plug-in for Oracle Calendar (yet?) I thought I'd try a round-trip import/export between Oracle Calendar and Mac OSX iCal. Inconvenient, but it should would because the UIDs in the .ics file would be the same and an import would overlay over the existing entries.
Wrong -- if I export an event from iCal, import it into Oracle Calendar, then export it again and look at the .ics file, the UID is different. Consequently, I get duplicate entries at the end of the round trip.
What good is the "U"-Unique of UID if it isn't kept consistently? From the standard: "Implementations MUST be able to receive and persist values of at least 255 characters for this property."

I've ran into an issue when exporting/importing a .csv file from OSX.And this "issue" is...?
    Exporting from? Importing to?
    APEX version?
    Database version?
    Database character set?
    Database host OS and version?
EPG, OHS or OAS (and version)?
    DAD character set (if any)?
    OS X version?
Some, none or all of the above may or not be relevant, but without more information to go on, all you are going to get are random guesses.
