Cannot install Oracle 10g rel. 2 on Win Server 2003 SB
Hello,
I cannot install Oracle 10g rel. 2 on Win Server 2003 SB, because when the the configuration assistant installer try to copy the db files, it stop with the following errors:
ORA-24324 Service Handle not Initialized
ORA-24323 Value not authorized
ORA-28547 Connection to Server failed probable Oracle NET ADMIN errorRegards
SiyavuşYou should be connected as a local administrator to perform the install process.
Try to perfom a software only install, then once you make sure the installation was successful, launch the dbca. It is important for you to use a local account to perform the installation and db setup process, otherwise, if you have authentication problems, even if you comment the authentication line at the sqlnet.ora file you will be facing issues that will make fail the assistant, since it is designed to work assuming the user is OS authenticated.

Oracle 10g RAC on 2 VMware Windows 2003 images corrupts image
It happened twice on each of the 2 VMware workstation 5 on which I am trying to set up an Oracle 10g R2 RAC. After installing CRS and rebooting machine I lost access to the Network Connections and the Disk Management. Basically I have to create a new image. Before I start a third time I would appreciate advice or feedback from other users.
Also Configuration Assistants failed to install.
ThanksCheck out my articles at http://dbasupport.com on 10g R2 RAC Clusterware setup. I was able to do that on my vmware BUT I hope to have the very irritating ASM scenario done before my 4th Article.
Check it out. -

Added srvctl outputHello,
I monitored the following file when starting the second instance.
- /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/log/shared-rac2/alertshared-rac1.log (on RAC1)
- /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/log/shared-rac2/alertshared-rac2.log (on RAC2)
There was no output generated.
Regarding the article you sent, I did not follow it, however I followed this article: http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/chan-ubl-vmware.html
I did not follow it step by step as I do not want ASM in my testing environment. However, the concepts have been used as described and in the same order. All of the shared disks are Oracle Clusterware Filesystem (OCFS2). -
I have two questions for oracle 10g rac install for turbolinux11
this kernel 2.6.18-53
the first questions about asm
does asm`s disk only install a node (not install two or more nodes?)
the second questions:
does shall install oracle_clustware_10.2.1 or install oracle_10.2.1_datebase
when i install the oracle_clustware now i must be install datebase?????Hi user10203064
the first questions about asm
does asm`s disk only install a node (not install two or more nodes?)
ASM instance shall be installed on both nodes
the second questions:
does shall install oracle_clustware_10.2.1 or install oracle_10.2.1_datebase
when i install the oracle_clustware now i must be install datebase?????´
You have to install first CRS, after that ASM and the database at the end

Solaris 10 and Hitachi LUN mapping with Oracle 10g RAC and ASM?
Hi all,
I am working on an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM installation with Sun E6900 servers attached to a Hitachi SAN for shared storage with Sun Solaris 10 as the server OS. We are using Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) RAC clusterware
for the clustering software and raw devices for shared storage and Veritas VxFs 4.1 filesystem.
My question is this:
How do I map the raw devices and LUNs on the Hitachi SAN to Solaris 10 OS and Oracle 10g RAC ASM?
I am aware that with an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM instance, one needs to configure the ASM instance initialization parameter file to set the asm_diskstring setting to recognize the LUNs that are presented to the host.
I know that Sun Solaris 10 uses /dev/rdsk/CwTxDySz naming convention at the OS level for disks. However, how would I map this to Oracle 10g ASM settings?
I cannot find this critical piece of information ANYWHERE!!!!
Thanks for your help!You don't seem to state categorically that you are using Solaris Cluster, so I'll assume it since this is mainly a forum about Solaris Cluster (and IMHO, Solaris Cluster with Clusterware is better than Clusterware on its own).
Clusterware has to see the same device names from all cluster nodes. This is why Solaris Cluster (SC) is a positive benefit over Clusterware because SC provides an automatically managed, consistent name space. Clusterware on its own forces you to manage either the symbolic links (or worse mknods) to create a consistent namespace!
So, given the SC consistent namespace you simple add the raw devices into the ASM configuration, i.e. /dev/did/rdsk/dXsY. If you are using Solaris Volume Manager, you would use /dev/md/<setname>/rdsk/dXXX and if you were using CVM/VxVM you would use /dev/vx/rdsk/<dg_name>/<dev_name>.
Of course, if you genuinely are using Clusterware on its own, then you have somewhat of a management issue! ... time to think about installing SC?

Problem with Oracle 10g RAC VIP network setting at Solaris 9
Dear All,
I have tried to set up a Oracle 10g RAC Release 2.
With OS solaris 9, and 2 nodes.
The nodes setting as the following:
nodes 1:
Public address: 172.16.0.121
Private address: 192.168.0.121, 192.168.1.121 (dual path for heart beat)
nodes 2:
Public address: 172.16.0.122
Private address: 192.168.0.122, 192.168.1.122
And i have assigned two IP adress 172.16.0.131, 172.16.0.132 as the VIP address for the
RAC.
And the following is the /etc/hosts file:
root@shk01 # cat /etc/hosts
# Internet host table
127.0.0.1 localhost
# public address
172.16.0.121 shk01 loghost
172.16.0.122 shk02
# heart beat
192.168.0.121 shk01-priv1
192.168.1.121 shk01-priv2
192.168.0.122 shk02-priv1
192.168.1.122 shk02-priv2
# VIP address
172.16.1.131 vip-shk01
172.16.1.132 vip-shk02
But when i run the command "$ ./runcluvfy.sh comp nodecon -n shk01,shk02 -verbose"
it shows the error:
ERROR:
Could not find a suitable set of interfaces for VIPs.
Result: Node connectivity check failed.
I did try to add the VIP address on bge0:1, as i using bge0 for the public address.
Both nodes i did using the same interface name for it.
Anyone have idea for me to check out the error?
Also, I have other question about the raw device.
As there is option for setting for ASM or raw device. If choosing raw device, does it mean that it just need to
format the storage disk but without newfs it? And then the Oracle program will able to handle it?
Thanks,
XentarYou don't seem to state categorically that you are using Solaris Cluster, so I'll assume it since this is mainly a forum about Solaris Cluster (and IMHO, Solaris Cluster with Clusterware is better than Clusterware on its own).

Oracle-10g RAC on VMware installed on Windows-7(Host)
Hi,
My host OS is Windows-7. Docs. posted on this forum for RAC on VMware says: your Host OS should be Centos OS and in which you will install VMware and Client tools also. In this way u can clone another RAC2 machine.
But I have Oracle VM Virtual Box installed on Windows-7. Another is VMware Player installed on Windows-7.
I want to install Oracle-10g RAC on my Laptop. Please any suggestions or Docs. related to this.
ShakeelHi,
while this is a documentation of 11gR2 it gives enough information on how to setup a RAC in a VBox environment:

Is Oracle 10g RAC supported in a production VMware environment yet? If not, what is the hold up? VMware is the standard in the industry now and not being able to virtulize is both costly and not practical.
As the previous responder points out, whilst Oracle does not actively certify its products in VMWare environments, it will provide support provided the issue is already known on the guest OS, or it can be reproduced outside a VMWare environment.
I know of many organisations running VMWare with RAC, including my own although we tend NOT to use it in Production environments. Oracle has many resource management capabilities built in to the RDBMS and the Grid Infrastructure which only work well if Oracle has control of all of the resources on a server.
I guess if you're not satisfied with our responses, you should direct your question to Oracle Support rather than this forum. Certification of VMWare is probably as much (or may be mostly) a business decision by Oracle and us Forum members can't generally explain those decisions. -
Using Clob with TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC
I am trying to store an XML file in a Clob type field of a DB table using TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC and need some guidance about how to do it. I got some directions to start it with the Tip "How-To: Map Large Objects (LOBs) to Oracle Databases with OracleAS TopLink" but still need some more helps.
When using the Oracle JDBC OCI driver, the tip gives the code block for a Clob field:
DirectToField scriptMapping = new DirectToField();
scriptMapping.setAttributeName("script");
scriptMapping.setFieldName("IMAGE.SCRIPT");
descriptor.addMapping(scriptMapping);
As I understand, TopLink creates instances of the Descriptor class at run time for each of the descriptor files and stores them in a database session, where is the proper place (in SessionEvent of TopLinkSessionEventHandler?) for me to get a reference to such an instance of my Descriptor class in Java code so that I can add the above mentioned additional Mapping? Are the above String values of "script" and "IMAGE.SCRIPT" predefined in TopLink API? Can I accomplish the same thing just using the TopLink Workbench tool instead? If yes, please advise the detailed steps to do so.
The tip also states to call the following code in case of using Clob:
DatabaseLogin login = session.getLogin();
login.useStringBinding();
Should the above 2 lines of code be called after the following lines of code?
SessionManager sessionManager = SessionManager.getManager();
Server serverSession = (Server)sessionManager.getSession("MY_SESSION_NAME");
Besides the above extra coding for the Session and Descriptor Mapping, is there any special handling in between Data model and DB table mapping? Can I map a Java String type to a DB Clob field using the Direct-to-field mapping?
Appreciate any help.Never mind ....... I had already figured it out .....
