Oracle 10g Rel 2 - Proxy connection authentication with SAP User ID

Dear Experts,
We are currently doing some research and planning to upgrade SAP R/3 4.6C to ECC 6 and upgrading Oracle from version 9.2 to 10.2
In upgrading to Oracle vers. 10g Rel 2, we got advised that Oracle has apparently introduced a new proxy connection authentication, in which the SAP user ID is given limited privileges (create session only) ??
If you have any information on this or known any impact about this issue, please advise us.

I also found the SAP Note 834917 (Oracle Database 10g: New database role SAPCONN and it seems to be on a right direction to cope with that problem.
- For Oracle releases earlier than 10gR2, the CONNECT role includes extensive database authorizations and the more restrictive CONNECT as of 10gR2.
- To overcome this restriction, SAP need to find a way to compensate this, so does it come SAPCONN.
- SAPCONN is the new SAP-specific database role, which is defined to support the normal SAP applications operations (CONNECT, RESOURCE and SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE).

Need ACES attention - connection pooling in oracle 10g rel 1

I am using TOMCAT 5.0.19 Webserver and ORACLE 10g REL 1 as the database server. I have to restart the TOMCAT Webserver in order to establish connection atleast twice or thrice in a weak. Why I am unable to see the connection pooling in oracle 10g rel 1. How to revive or establish the setup. My objective is to have a centralised oracle 10g rel 1 database server and the applications of java are run thru centralised Webserver Tomcat 5.0.19.
Can anyone please help me out optimizing the design setup.

I changed the subject of the thread after not getting any reply for past 10 days. Last two days I have been updating with plea for attention to my problem. Finally I thought pulling attention of ACES, then only I edited the subject.
Now, problem I am facing is not in oracle database but in application server. Actually we are running web applications thru Tomcat accessing Oracle 10g rel 1. I am often losing connection with web server. The users are unable to login in the web application. I was told to check oracle database server. I just checked alert log and found no errors. I just asked them to shutdown and restart the web server Tomcat 5.0. It then worked fine. This is temporary. I need to ensure where the problem is. Could you please guide me in checking various parameters or files to be checked to optimise connection pooling.

Cannot install Oracle 10g rel. 2 on Win Server 2003 SB

I cannot install Oracle 10g rel. 2 on Win Server 2003 SB, because when the the configuration assistant installer try to copy the db files, it stop with the following errors:
ORA-24324 Service Handle not Initialized

You should be connected as a local administrator to perform the install process.
Try to perfom a software only install, then once you make sure the installation was successful, launch the dbca. It is important for you to use a local account to perform the installation and db setup process, otherwise, if you have authentication problems, even if you comment the authentication line at the sqlnet.ora file you will be facing issues that will make fail the assistant, since it is designed to work assuming the user is OS authenticated.

I have server installed in Oracle 10g rel 1 and I have client installed as oracle10grel2. I am unable to export data from client machine. It is giving me a error. Can anyone help me out.

You need exp from 10gR1.
Oracle works in downwards compatibility mode.
This means lower version clients can connect to higher versions server, not necessarily the other way around.
exp is a specific case as exp has sql statements hardcoded in the tool.
Those statements are version specific.
(One would wish Oracle would change exp to bail out immediately when connected to a lower version database)Due to this only, I need the URL for client of version 10g rel 1 for the server 10g rel 1.

Using Connect:Direct with SAP

Folks,
Client is using Connect:Direct to transfer the files from one location to another location.There are two table maintained namely T9AOA and T9AOB with Interface id and Unix scripting w.r.t Processing types respectively.
1.I don't think these are SAP standard tables then why they are not named starting with Z or Y
2.How to use Connect:Direct with SAP.
Searched in SDN and google but didn't get any clear information on the above.From google I came to know this is a Product of Sterling Commerce(AT&T).
Hope someone here who used Connect:Direct with SAP can share the info.

The existing Design,had some tables which were maintained with required Unix Scripts.In the program we are just fetching that script from the table and building a Unix Command to move the files.There is also a URL using which we can check the status of the files.As I was just using the already existing design,don't have much info on how C:D connectivity can be designed from scratch.

DB2 Connect version 8.2 is no longer supported by IBM (support ended April 30, 2009, see http://www.ibm.com/software/data/support/lifecycle/). As far as I know, DB2 Connect is communicating through DRDA, which is a platform-independent protocol supported by all DB2 platforms, so any DB2 Connect client should be able to talk to any DB2 database. However, there may be limitations on the supported release combinations.

Running Oracle 10g Express without Web connection.

Hello Oracle Users/Friends
I previously used Oracle 8i on an older machine running Windows 98. No web connections required to run database. Have just installed Oracle 10g Express Edition on newer machine running XP Pro. Suddenly Web connections required for database Homepage etc. All cool. But, I just want to start database without requiring Web connections to practise plsql stuff.
It is probably an easy configuration somewhere, but could someone just explain how to start/run database without Web connection?
I also want to run the database from laptop while travelling on train and hence want to navigate through all features of Oracle 10g without web connection.
I guess a further question is simply what is the advantage of the database connecting to Web for someone like myself who is just wanting to run all queries etc locally on the base PC?
Would appreciate advice on this matter.

Well, when installing XE out of the box, all remote connections from other machines are disallowed by default.
Thus only you can access the management user interface of XE. The GUI is run in a web browser, thus you will need the web connection for yourself on your local machine. This is a very good reason to have the web connection enabled ;).
In order to disallow any web connections (even from your local machine) you can use dbms_xdb.sethttpport('0'); ( http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/01/xe-changing-default-http-port.html ) .

I am using Oracle 10g Release 1002000100 on HP-Unix,
When i am trying to login the Enterprise manager it is Throwing the ERROR
java.lang.Exception: UnknownHostException sending request :: testdisc And Enter prise manager page is being Opened
But
when i am clicking the Performance or Administration tabs it is comming to Login page with the Follows Error message
Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

I need some help for the following alert file erros, that I get periodically on every database instance.
ORA-02097: parameter cannot be modified because specified value is invalid
ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Database resource manager
I red in another newsforum, that this ist a bug, cause Oracle Standard Edition uses functionality of the Enterprise Edition(=DB Resource manager). Is there any workaround for this? I don't have access to the Oracle metalink section.
Database Resource Manager isn't installed in my environment.
Environment:
Windows 2003 SP1
Oracle Database 10g Rel 2 (10.2.0.1) Standard Edition

and That's exactly my problem. I haven't installed the resource manager. And I don't know which process, session, jobs or what ever tries to use the resource manager.
I only created round about 50 Tables and views in the database, no stored procedures or anything special, no jobs.... only simple SQL Statements.
and I'll get this message nearly every 6 hours. so what is going on there.

Oracle 10g Diff in execution plan query with binding var Vs without

We recently did 10g upgrade. In 10g, execution plan differs for query with binding var(thru jdbc etc) Vs without it as given below. For query with binding var,
it chooses poor execution plan(no index is used, full scan is done etc). everything worked fine in 9i. To rectify the problem, we have to hint query with right index,join etc. but i dont like this solution.
I would rather prefer to correct database to choose right execution path instead of eacy query level. but not sure what causes the issue.
Does anybody came across this issue? if so, Please share your experiences. Thanks for the help. Do let me know if you need more info.

I am not an expert but in my humble opinion it is the developer's responsability to ensure the correct explain plan is used before deploying code to production, if the explain plan returned by the DB is bad, then the use of a hint is perfectly acceptable.

Oracle 10g XE - unable to connect to the database home page

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10g XE on my computer. When I try to open the Database home page at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex, I get a Page not found error.
I have followed the steps outlined in the forums-
a) did "netstat -a"
Output : found that port 8080 isn't being used.
b) did "lsnrctl status"
Output: under Services summary - instance "CLRExtProc" is unknown
- instance "PLSExtProc" is unknown
- instance "xe" is ready
- instance "xe_xpt" is ready
c) did "sqlplus / as sysdba"
Output : Connected to Oracle 10g Express Edition
d) did "select status from v$instance "
Output : Mounted
e) did "select open_mode from v$database"
Output : Mounted
f) did "startup"
Output : started the database
Not sure why the database home page still wouldn't open. Any help is appreciated.
