Oracle 10g to oracle 11g

Hi,
OS:windows 2002 Db:oracle 10g
Os:Red hat 5 Db:Oracle 11g.
I would like to move the data from 10g to 11g for oracle real application testing.
can i use export and import for that?
If it's what about system tablespace and sysaux tablespace.

Just take full export as SYSTEM user and do the full import with IGNORE=N. dictionary objects will not be exported/imported, and avoid taking full export as sysdba, its usually invoked after consulting with oracle support, as it got additional functionality.
What you have to do is, create all tablespaces in 11g new db with same name & size as in your 10g database, and dont worry about existing or new users, full import will take care of it.
As always read oracle migration/upgrade docs, i hope you are doing this in test environment.

Vineeth

  • Oracle 10g vs Oracle 11g query performance

    Hi everyone,
    We are moving from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g database.
    I have a query which in Oracle 1g takes 85 seconds to run, but when I run the same query in Oracle 11g database, it takes 635 seconds.
    I have confirmed that all indexes on tables involved are enabled.
    Does anyone have any pointers, what should I look into. I have compared explain plans and clearly they are different. Oracle 11g is taking a different approach than Oracle 1g.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade steps needed - Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g in RHEL 4

    Hello,
    Am in the process of upgrading oracle 10g with 10.1.4.3 IDM,10.1.0.5 DB and 10.1.4.2 portal version to Oracle 11g. Now I see that there are some compatibilities in the OS. I have RHEL 4 and when I check the compatibility guide I see that it is possible to install/upgrade the oracle to 11g. But am worried on the kernel and packages which is needed for Oracle 11g. If there is any step by step assistance on this please guide me. Also I have an another query can I upgrade the OS RHEL 4 to RHEL 5 and then Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. Will I be seeing any issue after the OS upgrade with product upgrade. Kindly advise me.
    R/Ganesh

    This is all about libraries, some libraries between RHEL 4 and 5 had change and this may lead to malfunction of some products, cause they have been copiled using old libraries that doesn't exist now, even I think in the upgradres there are compatibility modes where let you keep old libraries, anyway seems a difficult thing to do. If you plan to move RHEL 4 to 5, I think this is your first step and then install again the Portal in the old version, and then make the upgrade, If you make this step by step, as firts install RHEL 5, install db, install portal, upgrade DB and finaly upgrade portal, would be easier. You may want to read the Master note for this upgrades in oracle Support 873751.1

  • SQL performance slow -- oracle 10g to oracle 11g

    Hi,
    We are have two development server, here we can call server10 and server11.
    Server’s having same hardware and OS, but different oracle version, server 10 and server 11 having oracle 10g and oracle 11g respectively.
    Problem, when you run sql query in oracle 11g it’s very slow compare to oracle 10g server.
    Here I have checked
    1)     sga size – comparatively 11g size is big
    2)     no full table scan
    OS – SUN
    DB: 11.1.0.7.0, 10.2.0.4.0

  • Will Oracle 10g and Oracle XE happily co-exist on same machine?

    I can't seem to find anything specifically saying that Oracle 10g and Oracle XE can be installed on the same Windows machine. The only reason I'd want to do this is that I originally had the free version on my Windows machine. The uninstaller nevers seems to run a complete job and always leaves bits over. So I'd like to install Oracle 10g alongside Oracle XE.
    Wondered if anybody had done this already?

    to uninstall Oracle, do the following:
    1. Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
    2. Run regedit.exe and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key. This contains registry entires for all Oracle products.
    Delete any references to Oracle services left behind in the following part of the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*
    It should be pretty obvious which ones relate to Oracle.
    4. Reboot your machine.
    5. Delete the "C:\Oracle" directory, or whatever directory is your ORACLE_BASE.
    6. Delete the "C:\Program Files\Oracle" directory.
    7. Empty the contents of your "c:\temp" directory.
    8. Empty your recycle bin.
    At this point your machine will be as clean of Oracle components as it can be.
    Remember, manually editing your registry can be very destructive and force an OS reinstall so only do it as a last resort.

  • Oracle 10g OLAP to 11g OLAP upgrade ?

    We currently are planning on a upgrade from 10g OLAP => 11g OLAP. We currently have 12 AWM's in 10g OLAP which we need to move over with associated DML programs and additional SQL reporting views.
    Questions:
    1. Is there any documentation available on necessary steps for 10g OLAP => 11g OLAP upgrade?
    2. What would happen to existing AWM's prepared in 10g, would they be migrated to 11g transparently or have to be re-created?
    3. Is there any specific documentation related to changes in way cube builds are done programatically?
    4. Any changes in the way limit maps work in 11g?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Sudip

    Migrating a 10g cube to 11g depends on whether you are talking about 11gR1 or 11gR2. 10g cubes continue to operate in the "10g way" even after a database upgrade. They will not become "11g cubes" until they are rebuilt after the database upgrade. In 11gR2, there is a supported way to migrate 10g cubes to 11g cubes, both with AWM and with PL/SQL. Sorry to say... this functionality doesn't exist in 11gR1: you'll have to rebuild your cubes from the ground up.
    The SQL relational views built using the AWM plugin in 10g are no longer applicable in 11g. That's because OLAP cubes in 11g are registered in the oracle data dictionary (just like other Oracle objects), and the SQL relational views are managed in the database and a recognized part of the product. The SQL relational views are quite different in 11g, so you will likely have to rewrite queries against them.
    LIMIT map syntax is the same, but performance is much better.

  • Oracle 10g RAC to 11g RAC Upgrade on Solaris

    Hi,
    We are planning to do a migration of a 4 Node Oracle 10g RAC on Solaris 9 to 11g with Solaris 10. We'd like know what would be the best path to take. We cannot afford any downtime!
    Options: Are these feasible? Which option is best? Any documents links?
    a) Do a rolling upgrade of Oracle from 10g to 11g. Then take down individual nodes and upgrade the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 and bring them up back into the cluster. Is there any known issues taking this path? Is a rolling upgrade like this possible?
    b) Do an upgrade of the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 on each node and then bring them back up? Is this practical? Does Oracle allow different versions of OS running on different nodes?
    c) Use Dataguard with 2 different RAC environments (2 nodes each). How would this work? Is it the only possible way? Any steps please?
    Thanks

    first of all i would not change several components (OS, database version) at a time. My recommendation is to make small steps and start with the operating system first. Seconds recommendation is to test and test everything in your dev or test environment prior doing the upgrades in the productive environment. Trust me: You will face problems :-) So you better try it beforehand!

  • Xpath difference between Oracle 10g and Oracle 11g

    All,
    I'm working on moving our existing stored functions from Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) to Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) and so far, everything has worked just fine on Oracle 11g...execpt for one xpath statement.
    The statement below works fine in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0):
    extractValue(inv_dtl_img, '/service//ground/sortKeyCode') AS "srt_key_cd",
    Please note: I need to use the double slash "//" in order to ignore the two different elements in the schema.
    However, in Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0), when this statement is executed in the stored function, I get this:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got -
    The extractValue command is pulling data out of an XMLType column, and the corresponding XML schema looks like:
    <service>
    <trans>
    <ground>
    <sortKeyCode>
    </sortKeyCode>
    </ground>
    </trans>
    <nontrans>
    <ground minOccurs=0>
    <sortKeyCode>
    </sortKeyCode>
    </ground>
    </nontrans>
    </service>
    Please note: In the XML message, the "trans" and "nontrans" elements are exclusive, so both will never be populated at the same time. A typical XML message would look like this:
    <service><trans><ground><sortKeyCode>3</sortKeyCode></ground></trans></service>
    or this:
    <service><nontrans><ground><sortKeyCode>5</sortKeyCode></ground></nontrans></service>
    In the schema, the sortKeyCode has been defined in both places as "string maxlen=3", so the datatype of that element is exactly the same in both the "trans" and "nontrans" sections of the schema. The only difference in the schema (outside of the trans and nontrans tags) is the fact that the second "ground" tag is defined with a "minOccurs=0". Could Oracle 11g be treating the schema differently than Oracle 10g, resulting in the error?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    The only way to get an quick answer to that one is to file a service request with Oracle support. It could be a bug or a correct change regarding W3C behavior. Despite this, you moving to 11.2, the extract/extractvalue etc propriety Oracle solutions are deprecated from 11.2 and onwards. The more sensible way to move forward, although, I know more work intensive, is to apply the XQuery alternatives like xmlexist, xquery or xmltable functions.
    Moving to EXTRACT is a bad idea, because this alway will be treated as an XML fragment. If you unlucky then Oracle will deal with this in memory via DOM (the standard solution regarding XML parsing if every smart thing within Oracle can not be applied) and this will result in a performance downgrade due to high CPU and Memory consumption/overhead...
    Your pick...

  • Difference between Oracle 10g and Oracle 11g when using Distinct in SQL

    Hi All,
    When I use Distinct in Oracle 10g, the result would be sorted in ascending order automatically, while there is no sorting in the result set in Oracle 11g.
    I was using plsql developer to run my sql.
    May I know if anyone have the same experience before?
    Is there any kind of setting in 11g that I can make the result in order? Thanks!
    Edited by: user5810051 on 2011/4/6 下午 8:47

    As acadet says, if you want your result ordered you must specify an ORDER BY clause in your query. Just because previous versions of oracle included some ordering as part of the processing of a query, that was not a guaranteed ordering, but just a side-effect. Now that Oracle have improved the internal workings, they've removed the side-effect, and that's why you're not getting the ordering you want, because you were relying on that side-effect rather than explicitly stating the order you wanted.

    You'll find all the details on the Installation Guides for your platform:

    how it is possible without using import/export/datapump utilities?If you don't want to use Export/Import, you may use DBUA (the Database Upgrade Assistant) or Manual method. You'll have more informations on the links below:
