Oracle 10g won't start
Every time when I needed to reboot the server, Oracle 10g wouldn't start itself. 10g DB should start itself automatically, shouldn't it? If so, how can I fix this problem?
You mean oracle alert.log? if so, here's some content from last startup ---

Hi Everyone,
I am not able to start Oracle 10g home on windows...recently i installed oracle 6i forms. so when i try to set ORACLE_SID=nwc and then sqlplus sys/dba@nwc as sysdba, nothing happens...it takes me back to command prompt.
C:\Documents and Settings\admin>set ORACLE_SID=NWC
C:\Documents and Settings\admin>SQLPLUS SYS/DBA@PRIMARY AS SYSDBA
C:\Documents and Settings\admin>
but when i only type SQLPLUS, a new cmd prompt window opens & it says SQL*PLUS : Release 8.0.6.0.0 - Production on Sat Jul 17 09:39:31 2010

Edited by: katheri on Jul 16, 2010 11:56 PMHi Katheri,
Run sqlplus available under 10G oracle home. Your env is set to forms 6i and its using sql 8i version.
Make sure that your database has been started. Refer the link below to administer database on windows.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13831_01/admin.htm
To configure forms6i refer,

Hope this helps.

Reconfig of Oracle 10g, Programs in Start Menu.
Hi
1. My window on C: drive was corrupted, and my Oracle 10g was o D: drive.
2. I installed new window, reconfig my Oracle 10g Database.
3 But i have lost all utilites/program listing of 10g, appeared in Start Menu.
Plz, tell me the way how we can reconfig this thing in our window.
Thanks.

<The above Question was posted on Database Installation Forum two-3days ago, I thing no can answer this>If you reinstalled the oracle product this is enough to have your menu 'rebuilt'. It actually doesn't rebuilds the menu, it rather creates new entries.
I suggest you to take a look at the installation forum where you posted this same thread. At the installation forum I initially understood you didn't reinstall the Oracle Home, but you 'reconfigured your database'.

We have an issue with a very old Oracle version. It's installed on a ~2000 Windows NT4 (SP5) PC we can't upgrade for now. The database is set up to start on the system startup, but currently it won't. The log files show two ORA-00600 issues:
ORA-00600 [4500] [10] [] [] [] []
ORA-00600 [4510] [10] [] [] [] []
I hope anyone knows a solution for this problem!
Thanks in advance!

Is there a possibility to attach files? I'd like to attach a screenshot of the log file giving me the errors.Unfortunately not.
The database won't start when trying manually (cmd prompt and Start menu entry). What does "no files mounted" mean? Will be helpful if you can copy and paste error and message text. Can only guess what that means - that the files are either not found and cannot be mounted (i.e. opened), or that a startup option prevented the file from being mounted.
The basic startup sequence is:
- read the pfile (applies the parameter settings as specified and find the control file name(s))
- open the control file(s) - these contain a list of data files that the database exists of
- open the data files one at a time (doing various checks using the file header and so on)
If the control file is a problem, there would be a control file related message.
The control file lists the data files to open (order is important). If one or more data files are missing. there would be error messages to that effect. If the files are inconsistent (header versions differ for example), there would be error messages to that effect.
What do you mean with "instance"?A database instance can also be called the database engine. It conists of a shared memory area and a number of processes. On the Windows kernel, that would be an oracle.exe process with multiple threads.
When a database is mounted, the control files are opened, but the actual data files (comprising the database) is not. When a database is opened, the data files are opened for reading and writing. This is all done by the instance's processes.
Any more things to check? I'll go there and check anything you say I should check. One step at a time I would say. Can the database be mounted? This means that the instance needs to start (allocate the shared memory successfully, fire up all threads successfully) and then read the control file(s). -
How to stop Oracle 10g DB automatically start up when Windows boots/reboots
With Oracle 9i, I could set Oracle DB manually start so it would not start when Windows OS was booted/rebooted. This was done through setting Control Panel -> Admin tools -> Services -> Oracle9iMyDB's Startup type to "Manual".
Now I have 10g installed, same setting does not prevent 10g DB start up at Windows boots.
I have Windows 2000 now for 10g and past for 9i.
Could anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
DCDo you have a registry entry that looks like
ORA_<SID>_AUTOSTART that is set to the value 'TRUE'? -
Oracle database won't start/connect
I apologize in advance if I've missed something in another forum/thread, or leave out necessary information towards solving this. I tried to be as comprehensive in my research as possible prior to posting.
Here's the story - I have a 10g 10.2.0.1.0 database on Windows XP. It was running fine, until I tried to add DBWS_UTL/10.2.0.3.0 Client... I think?, components to it in order to enable it for Web Services. I followed the tutorial at the following link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_single/develop/java/java_otn.htm
... and got down to Instruction #8, just before "Calling the Web Service". It says "Note that there are no errors." Unfortunately, I did have errors... and more unfortunately, I don't still have them handy.
After some testing I realized that not only do database web services not work, but my database was no longer functioning at all. Consultation with coworkers revealed the problem to likely be tied to now having improper version matching (10.2.0.1 versus 10.2.0.3...)
So, I tried upgrading my 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3... and believe I have successfully done that. Every service started up in Windows Services except for "OracleDBConsoleSID", which reported "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" right after the little green timer blocks slowly and steadily filled up to the end.
Some more experimentation with a coworker, the OracleDBConsoleSID service no longer exists in my services list, and the database still doesn't start up.
Things I've tried:
1. Checking my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files - the proper hostnames and Oracle home are listed.
2. Rebuilding the OracleDBConsole via "emca" commands from command prompt. EMCA responds but the actual commands to reconfigure or rebuild the repository fail out because the database is not responsive.
3. Connecting via my installed applications, Enterprise Manager, SQL Plus, and Command Line - all fail the same way, Error 1034.
4. Reconfiguring/rebuilding my Listener with Net Configuration Assistant - values seem to check out, no positive results.
5. Many many other small/random things mentioned in forums here and elsewhere on the net.
I guess that's it for now, there's plenty more details I could include but I don't want to muddle the post with irrelevant information. Any ideas/help are greatly appreciated, I would just reinstall/start over but I have important data in the database that I don't want to lose.
Thanks,
Greg

Oracle 10G - can't start TNSListener
The TNSListener no longer automatically starts on my 10g Database. It has been set up to work automatically, and was fine until recently. It is still listed as being an automatic service, but even when started manually it still fails. The error message I get is "Could not start XXXXX TNSListener service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." Any suggestions as to how I go about fixing this will be greatly appreciated
Did anyone change anything in the listener.ora? Check to see if there are any extra/missing spaces/parenthesis and check the format.

Hello.
A windows 2000 server (SP4) went down after a power-cut. Now none of the oracle services will start (auto or manual). Can't even run sqlplus - get "The application failed to initialize properly (0cx0000006)" error.
Seems that things go wrong so early that not enough core processes start to give even a log file for clues. Any ideas how I can find out where the problem is?
Big thanks for any help here!Hello nbellam,
No virus scanning software running. Everything worked fine until last weekend. I've now tried, instead of starting the service via windows administration, runnning it from DOS using the command "oracle dbname" it hesitates for a little while then I get a message box with: "The application failed to iniyialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application"
From what I've found on the net this is "EXCEPTION_IN_PAGE_ERROR" which they explain as "The thread tried to access a page that was not present, and the system was unable to load the page. -ie. the program or memory mapped file
couldn't be paged in because it isn't accessable any more." I've rebooted twice now and all other apps "appear" to be OK.
Since the Server is in a different location I'm really looking for a way to fix this via remote desktop. I'm looking for a solution in various windows forums too, but so far nothing. If I get the answer elswhere I'll post it here too.
Thanks for your help! -
I'm using Windows 2000 Professional and when I go to services, I can't start any of the ORACLE services. I get an error 5 message from Windows.
Hi
The best way for you is that you first format your harddisk and then install Windows 2000 again, and finally install a fresh Oracle.

Oracle 10g (10.1.0.2) - Oracle CS Service and Database won't start up
Hello!
As I installed Oracle 10g (Version 10.1.0.2) I had to start "OracleCSService" which I tried, but it never finishes starting and "stays in the state of starting".
I'm working on the operation System Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, 10.1.0.2
I don't know if it coheres, but I as well can't access my Database. Since I installed Oracle I haven't once been able to access.
Did anyone have the same problem and got a solution?

Note:276801.1
OracleCSService is only needed for RAC and ASM configurations, the simplest workaround is to set the service to MANUAL startup, what prevents the service from starting after a reboot.
As long as you use neither RAC nor ASM database creation is independent of this service and should work. To analyze the problem more details are needed, 'it does not work' is not enough.

Oracle 10g DBCONSOLE won't start up
Hello...
I'm running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on RHEL4. My listener, database and Oracle HTTP Server are up and running. The sole purpose of this database is to run Oracle Application Express applications. The oracle apex applications are all running fine.
However, I cannot for the life of me get Oracle EM (dbconsole) running. I've tried everything but obviously not the right thing. I can't console to my running database? It keeps failing everytime I start it. I've looked at some logs but I don't know what I'm looking for. Oracle EM was running just fine on Friday, but wouldn't come up Monday morning.
My url for EM is http://172.23.183.169:1158/em
At the terminal session prompt I type >emctl start dbconsole
It comes back after a 5 minute timeout saying it failed. It appears that the agent (3938) does not want to start.
Here is some log info further below...
Please let me know what direction I should go on to resolve this. Thx!
Regards,
Ken

Oracle 10g Express Service not starting Database
I have a fresh download and install or Oracle 10gExpress and am having issues when I manually start the OracleXE service. The OracleXE Service starts, but the database does not. The error I see is ora-12560.
The database and service stops correctly if I manually stopthe OracleXE service. The start of the service just won't start the database.
The oradim.log contains
Thu Oct 15 11:51:30 2009
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin\oradim.exe -startup -sid xe -usrpwd * -log oradim.log -nocheck 0
Thu Oct 15 11:51:31 2009
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
New Information:
What I just found out was that it all works fine if the install of Oracle 10g Express is done prior to joining the Server to a domain. If the install is done after the server is part of a domain, the service will not start the database. If the install is done prior to putting the Server in a domain, the service will start the database.
Any help why this must be installed prior to adding the server to the domain?
Edited by: user10279386 on Oct 15, 2009 9:24 AMHi!
I think that installation must be done with Domain user who is Administrator on this machine also. Check ORA_DBA group that consist of at least two users: SYSTEM (who by default brings up the service, but you can change it) and your domain user (local Administrator on that server) who is making installation of XE on that server.
Hope this helps,
Damir

How to create an unofficial repo [solved]
I know this must have been asked and answered 10 or 20 times over but I'll be damned if I can find it either here or in the wiki. Is there a forum post or wiki article that describes how to setup an unofficial repo on a web server? Last edited by gr
