Oracle 10gR2 linux x86 to LoP migration

Dear All,
I have a case about migrating 10gR2 DB from Linux x86 platform to Linux on Power. I've tried exp/imp and DBCA template, but still it doesn't work. LoP can't read the controlfile from x86, and always returned error. Can anyone help me how to solve this case? Much appreciated. Thank you.

There are two options to migrate database crossplatform. Either using export/import or Tranportable Tablespace option.
Either case, you need to have a new Oracle installation on Linux on Power and use DBCA to create a new database as target DB.
What's the error you had?

    Hi,
What is the most appropriate strategy to migrate a database from oracle 9i on windows to another server having Oracle 10gR2 RAC on SUSE Linux 9?
    Thanks
    Satish

If the database size is not very large, then export/import would work. Make sure the data files are copied using binary mode. (or run the export from the 10gR2 installation and connecting to the Windows 9i instance.) Create all the Roles and Tablespaces and Users (and the grants) on 10g prior to the import.

  • Oracle 10GR2 + Linux

I'm planning to install Linux & Oracle 10GR2 into my Dell server at home that I bought so I can learn Oracle. Could anyone recommend what Linux should I install work best with Oracle 10GR2 and where should I download for free.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vu

There are Linux distributions which are certified for Oracle SW (Redhat EL, SuSE ES, Asianux) but I think they are not downloadable for free (in full not just eval. vesion).
But there are distributions which you can download for free and there you can run Oracle.
Centos, WhiteBox Linux - there are distributions completely built from original RH EL packages.
I got good experience with Oracle on mainstrem distributions as Fedora and Suse.
Of course these distributions are not certified for Oracle products but Oracle is running fine on them.
But I think you could use whatever of Linux distribution.

  • Which Linux distributions conform the linux-x86 port?

    Hi,
I want to install an Oracle 10gr2 linux-x86 port to my 32 bit x86. Which linux distributions can i use? Which ones do you suggest?
Besides, Oracle doesn't have a port to use on a Solaris 10-x86 32 bit, does it?
    Thank you, best regards.
    Ogun Heper

http://fedora.redhat.com/ is probably the easiest distro to use for Oracle. There is a lot of documentation for it, and everything seems to work very nicely (on Fedora Core 4 at least -- I've only used XE on FC5).
Another distro that a lot of people have been happy with is SuSE linux (http://en.opensuse.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE.org). This seems to work well also, and has moderate resources in terms of documentation for Oracle.
Yet another common distro is Ubuntu / Kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/). I'm not sure how much tweaking you have to do to get it to work, but it also has a fairly active community and documentation.
In terms of getting things to work the first time without hitches, use Fedora. If you want to have a little bit more control over your systems, use SuSE or Kubuntu. They each have their advantages.
Also, when first using Linux, choose your desktop environment wisely (unless this is a server). I like KDE and I hate using Gnome, but a few of my closest friends would disagree. It all depends on what you like and what you're used to. Tweak it to your liking.

  • Oracle E-Business Suite Certification on Linux x86-64

    Hello all,
I have some questions about certification for Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2 on Linux x86-64.
I have two 64-bit servers and intend to do a split configuration.
From the certification (Certify/View Certifications by Product/E-Business Suite/E-Business Suite 11i and Earlier/Platform Selection: Database Tier Only) I understand the following:
I must have the Application Tier running on Linux-x86 and the Database Tier may be either on Linux-x86 or Linux-x86-64.
    Is this correct?
Should I install RHES4 for 32bit on the Application Server and RHES4 for 64bit on de Database Server?
    or
Should I install RHES4 for 64bit on both servers and install the 32bit Applications software on the Application Server?
How should I ask for the software I need? From the E-Delivery web site I don't have the 64bit option for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10.2.
Is EBS allways for 32bit no matter the OS ?
    Thank you very much.
    Catalina.

I must have the Application Tier running on Linux-x86

Re: Oracle Application 11.5.10.2 installation on Linux AMD 64
How should I ask for the software I need? From the
E-Delivery web site I don't have the 64bit option for
    Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10.2.
Is EBS allways for 32bit no matter the OS ?It is always 32-bit but it could comes in 64-bit for the database part. You would find such a media for Solaris for example "Oracle® Applications 11i Release 10.2 for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit) with Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-bit) Oracle® Database" but not for Linux Intel 64-bit.
Just get the media for Linux x86, install it, then consider having Oracle 10g 64-bit on the database tier.

    Hi Nirav,
Many thanks for your response. I verified the same, but the same query was executed successfully after removing the INSERT INTO part(executed the SELECT part only). What might be the cause for this error?
    For your kind information :
    I have 2 schema in my DB( ceas_mk_app and ceas_mk_rpt ).
All the source tables are present in ceas_mk_app schema - These tables are used by ceas_mk_rpt schema(using synonym) to generate the report.
I'm executing the above said query from ceas_mk_rpt to insert the necessary data in to report temp. table.
    Thanks,
    Sengol S

  • How to Reorganize CSM200 Shared Storage in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10gR2

I could use some guidance from those who are more experienced in RAC administration in a Solaris environment with ASM. I have a three-node RAC with Oracle 10gR2 instances on top of Solaris 10 x86 where the shared storage is a Sun CSM200 disk array which looks like a single disk to the rest of the world. I'm not very familiar with the CSM200 Common Array Manager but I do have access to use it.
During initial setup, I followed the Oracle cookbook and defined a storage slice for each of the following: OCR, OCR mirror, three voting disks, and +DATA, for a total of six slices. I brought up the RAC and we've used it for a couple of weeks.
This is a Dev and QA environment, so it changes pretty fast. The new requirement is to add a +FRA and to add a mount point for a file system on the shared storage, so that all three Oracle instances can refer to the same external table(s).
However, I've already used all the available slices in the VTOC on the shared logical drive. I'm not sure how to proceed.
    1) Is it necessary to use the CAM to create two logical disks out of the single existing logical disk?
    2) If so, how destructive is that? I don't need to keep the contents of the database, but I do not want to reinstall CRS or ASM or the DB instances.
    3) Is it possible to combine the OCR and its mirror on the same slice, thus freeing a slice for reuse?
    4) Is it possible to combine all three voting disks on the same slice, thus freeing two slices for reuse?
    Edited by: user12006221 on Mar 29, 2011 3:30 PM
Another question: Under 10.2.0.4, is it possible for the OCR and voting disks to be managed by ASM? I know it would be possible under 11g, but that's not an option as I am trying to match a customer's environment and they aren't going to 11g any time real soon.

What you see is what happens when the Java runtime running on Solaris 10 x86 tries to load a library which is compiled for SPARC.
Because of the native parts in SAP GUI for Java, compilations and installers are required for each OS - HW combination.
The supported platforms can be seen in SAP note 954572. For Solaris only SPARC is currently supported.
Because of the effort needed for compiling, testing, support etc. it is required to focus on OS - HW combinations widely used on desktop machines and Solaris 10 on x86 currently does not seem to be one of those.

From what I can gather form your post, the ORA-27125: Unable to create shared memory segment is probably the result of:
    a) not enough physical memory available.
    b) /dev/shm not configured properly.
    c) kernel parameters are not set according to Oracle requirements.
Since this is happening during the installation of Oracle I suggest to check the SHMMAX kernel parameter. This is all mentioned in the pre-installation steps. Oracle 11g will actually check these kernel parameters prior to installing. Not sure about 10g now, which you are trying to install.
The most common, easiest way to prepare the system for Oracle RDBMS is to install the "oracle-validated" package. If you don't have access to ULN, you can setup public yum.
http://public-yum.oracle.com/ Then you can simply type as the root user: yum install oracle-validated

Trust me I verified installtion guide and release notes atleast 20 times. I never had luck witht any thing. I was wondering how come edelivery.oracle.com packages (both Linux 64 bit Linux with upgrade to Unbreakable and Oracle 10g db version) is not workign for me. Finally below trick to the installed file could make my installation work(Ref link http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gInstallationOnFedora2.php) . In this I am setting DISABLE_HUGETLBFS to value 1. My only doubt is, does this have any impact on performance? Can some one relay on such tweeking for prod installtions? Ofcourse I am yet to go for commercial. At present I dont have ULN or metalink authorised access.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    mv oracle oracle.bin
    cat >oracle <<"EOF"
    #!/bin/bash
    export DISABLE_HUGETLBFS=1
    exec $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.bin $@
    EOF
    chmod +x oracle
