Oracle 10gR2 on Mac OS/x 10.5.6 - dbconsole not working after installation

Hi All,
Anyone able to get dbconsole up and running after the installaton using DHCP?
I followed the Quick Install guide linked on the OTN Mac Page:
http://www.pythian.com/news/1937/quick-install-guide-for-oracle-10g-release-2-on-mac-os-x-leopard-intel
I'm setup with DHCP (as they are in the quick install guide).
Config Assistant ran setup for Enterprise Manager successfully, but it looks like it did not create the repository or directories.
When I go to create manually with emca I get errors.
Curious if anyone has got this going out of the box or if there is a standard set of steps I missed out there post install to get it running.
Don't see anything in the official installation guide or Metalink either (except that DHCP is not really recommended).
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Anthony,
Unfortunately, the releases note for 10gR2 on OS X indicate that Enterprise Manager database control is unsupported for this release, so I don't think you'll see anything from Oracle about how to get dbconsole to work. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, of course, just unsupported. :-) A quick Google search isn't turning up anything so far, but maybe someone out there in Internet-land has managed to get dbconsole to work...
Regards,
John P.

I'm seeing this exact same problem. After upgrading to Snow Leopard JavaFX simply fails with a segmentation fault. Any suggests?

  • Oracle 10gR2 on Mac OS X 10.6

    Good evening everyone
Please help me to solve a problem I had after installing Oracle 10gR2 on mac os x snow leopard.
After installation, everything worked fine, but once I rebooted the system, I could not use Oracle and I received the following error message:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Mac OS X Error: 2: No such file or directory
Thank you for helping me solve this problem

Is this a follow up on Use SQLDeveloper ?
Regarding the older thread at Installation on MAC OS X: ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist Perhaps there is an easy solution, but in that case the problem was not found. It might be that some update release of Snow leopard 10.6 is causing the trouble. Oracle does not support Snow Leopard. The whole installation of Oracle as such including the setup of kernel parameters and other system settings is un-apple like and therefore doomed to fail in later releases, depending what changes Apple makes on the underlying Unix support. Apple MacOSX is not just another Unix box and it's setup and maintenance is proprietary.

Hmmmm... would appear that you need to be actually logged in to enable the additional menu features.
Have you tried deletting the plists for MAS?

  • Mac Menu not working after updated to 10.6.2

Strange behavior after I updated my Macbook 13" to Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Whenever Apple own software crash (not responding), e.g. Finder, iTunes, iPhoto etc, all the functions under the Apple icon (top right) in menu bar no longer work. As such I can't shutdown or restart my mac. Pressing the power button will not work as well. I either have to force shutdown (press the power button for few seconds) or use terminal to fire "sudo halt" command to shutdown, which takes longer than usual to shutdown, few minutes. In fact after I updated to 10.6.2, Apple software is prone to crash. Running disk utility repair disk permission and repair disk does not fix any of the above problem. I am reluctant to do a fresh install. Anyone facing the same problem? Any solution? Or should I wait for the next update release?
    Please help.

    HI,
*"repair disk does not fix any of the above problem"*
If Disk Utility reported errors, did you repair them?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
Might be a good idea to run the Apple Hardware Test just in case, go here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2684
Try downloading and installing the 10.6.2 combo update here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Deleting the com.apple.systemiuserver.plist file should fix the Status Menu Bar issue as "donv (The Ghost)" suggests.
One last thing... please click My Settings on the right side of this window and update your forum profile. Thanks!
    Carolyn

The mail in my MAC  OS X 10.8.3  is not working, so I deleted it. Now, how to re-instal it?  Where find it?  TIA.

The mail was not working, so I try to delete it, and I though I did it, and I tried to re-start the MAC, but got the message "Mail don't permit to re-start, close mail and try again" or some like this. And I closed mail but still could not re-start, so I just took the plug from the electricity and re-plug again. And voilá!!!  Everything in place, mail working again! Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS5 - colour settings in Print menu not working after update Mac OSX maverick

After upgrading to Maverick OSX on the iMac printing from CS5 via Epson R3880 is not working correctly. In Print Settings menu the drop downs for Colour and Colour Settings are greyed out. I already re-installed PS and installed the new drivers from epson. Any ideas?

but after choosing PS manages color, the options in the print menu for choosing color (color or b&W) and color settings are not available anymore. They used to be the last three years I printed with photoshop/epson 3880.
Instead they are greyed out now.

If Photoshop managed color, then the controls in the printer driver are supposed to be grayed out - that's how Apple specifies drivers to work (because only one party should be managing the print color).
So what you're describing is perfectly normal.

Well I didn't enter a hostname from my ISP, but I did need to enter as a Host Domain the sub-domain (CNAME) that we use for our server. Don't know all the proper terminology, but I hope that's clear enough to someone to help. As soon as I did that, it worked again.

Mac Pro will not restart after installation of Lion.  Help

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

I have a 2010 mac book pro and track pad is not working well, is there a problem with that year. I heard that the 2011's had track pad trouble.

All recent versions of Mac OS X use bash, so avoiding Mavericks won't help you with that problem (which isn't a problem for most users).
iWeb is another matter. My advise: migrate your website to Wordpress first and start thinking about upgrades later.

  • Oracle 10gR2 and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

    Hello.
A question to any Oracle employees who are reading this forum: can we expect Oracle 10gR2 to be supported on Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger")?
    Regards,
    Janus Christensen

Don't forget the role of Apple in this and the fact that there still are not that many sites using a mac for oracle production - yet. For a stable dedicated oracle production environment you don't need all the updates that bring new features to the desktop ... What you want is an installation that is good and stable. We have to wait a little longer for an update but get the first patches included in the base release. This could also be an advantage.
A famous dutch football player once said: 'Every advantage has it's dis-advantages'.
What I would like to know is what Apple is going to do with the xserve line. When/if they will be changed to intell. This will have some impact on oracle/mac development. Things could get a little easier. It could also give us an interesting upgrade path since the oracle datafiles are cpu dependent.

  • Oracle 10gr2 locally is not working after  installing Oracle 11g

    hi ,
Does anyone has any idea after installing oracle 11g in system, Oracle 10g locally is not working. I am getting below error.
Forms session <2> failed during startup: no response from runtime process

Generally this is because the software you install last updates the system environment variables with its information, thereby break products that use files with similar names. Specifically, look at PATH and ORACLE_HOME. Likely you will see that entries for your 11g installation will be displayed first. In order to use v10, you would need to change this or use script files to start executibles. For Forms runtime, be sure to properly set default.env to point to the desired PATH
