Oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003 R2
What is the patchset for Oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003 R2? I have check 'Patches/Updates' tab but the patch p5337014_10203_WINNT.zip is ONLY dowloadable from Microsoft Windows (32 bit)
platform? Is there a separate 10.2.0.3 patch for Microsoft Windows 2003 (x86)
Version 2003 R2? Please advice.
My current Oracle version is 10.2.0.1 and I am trying to upgrade to 10.2.0.3
I don't think that this is the place to ask about downloads external to OTN. See forum description. Questions about the patches from Metalink (after searching/reading existing Notes and still not coming up with a definitive answer) should in general be directed to Metalink (e.g. open a SR).
With that said.. If you are asking on how to retrieve the patch set via Metalink interface, then you should turn to Patches & Updates (one of the main tabs). Use e.g. Simple Search or Quick Links to the Latest... to drill down.
When you have found a patch set, the Patch Set readme documents system requirements and other vital information.
If you are looking for other information regarding patches and patching, the first place to look is again Metalink. Certification and supportability information can be found via Certify tab. There are several "tactical" Notes such as 161549.1 and 316900.1 useful for supporting your own procedures and for finding further information.

JRE Error : while Install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003
Hello,
I am trying to install a Oracle 10gR2 on windows server 2003.
I have unziped the files and when I run the oui.exe it gives the below error:
cannot find any matches for wildcard specification "../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.5.0.0./1/DataFiles/*.jar
Error : JRE missing in Scratch Path
I tried changing the oraparmaini file but it did not allow to make any changes.
Not sure if its looking for any particular java files.
What should i edit ,to specify the java location.
ThanksWhat exactly did you unzip? This error occurs if there are several zip-files extracted to different target locations. But - if I remember correctly - 10gR2 database is only one zip-file, so you should not face this issue. JRE for OUI is part of the downloaded software,so you don't need to specify a location for JRE, OUI knows where to find this.

Slow work Oracle 10gR2 on Windows server 2003 Standart SP2
Hi!
I have a problem when i migrating from my old server to new one..
Old server:
Windows 2003 SP2 + Oracle 10gR2
CPU Pentium 4 2.4
RAM 2 GB
DISK 2 x RAID 1 (one for systen and instance another for data files)
On this system i have disk I/O about 35 - 45 mb per sec.
New server:
Windows 2003 SP2 x86 + Oracle 10gR2 x86
CPU 2 x Xeon Dual Core 1.6
RAM 4 GB
DISK 1 x RAID 1(system and instance) 1 x RAID 10 (4 disks SATA) (data files).
When i create tablespace i have disk I/O (EM) about 35 mb/sec and when i try to load data in my new databae (i am using Data Pump import) i have I/O 1 mb/sec. How can i solve this problem?
When i runing Sisoft Sandra i get a result ~100mb/sec. But the ORION get me a very small result aproximetly the same as in old server.I don't think that this is the place to ask about downloads external to OTN. See forum description. Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit
We are running Oracle 10g on Windows Server 2003 Standard 64bit Edition. I am NOT a DBA, so forgive my ignorance.
We have 16GB of physical memory in this server. I was told by a DBA that Oracle runs on "a single process", and because of that, he said that Windows Server 2003 Standard will only allow 2GB max for a single process.
Can anyone confirm this? Thanks. This sounds more lika a Windows issue. If both Windows and app is "64-bit", I would expect the user virtual address space (per process) to be in the TiB range, if not larger.
(The said 2GiB limit applies to a 32-bit system.)

About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003
Hi, all
When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
But there are 4G memory with my server.
I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.Let me get this straight:
You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment. -
HELP! Oracle 9i on Windows Server 2003
Hi, if I go to download the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows Server 2003 there is only a patch and another small zip file, and not the full 3 Disk zip files? Then if you read the release notes under the zip links it points to the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows 2000/XP? And then talks about applying some patches...
Can someone confirm that I do need to install the 9.0.2.1.0 release 2 of Oracle 9i for Windows 2000/XP on the Windows 2003 Server and then apply these patches?
TIAThis is the release option for the Windows 2003 Server:
Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal/Client Edition
for Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)
but like I mentioned above it only has a patch and another small zip file which is obviously not the complete Oracle9i database:
Here is the link to the release notes:

Symantec antivirus Best practice for oracle database on windows server 2003
Hi all,
I have an oracle database server on windows server 2003 platform of version 10.2.0.4. what would be best practice of running symantec antivirus on that server as well as database file exclusions from scanning them.
My server had rebooted unexpectedly for many times. in event log i have id as 6008. what may be cause of it..?Normally, you don't run a virus scanner on a database server because your database server isn't vulnerable to viruses. It's behind firewalls, people aren't reading mail on it, people aren't plugging thumb drives into it, etc. If you do decide that you need to run a virus scanner on a database server, at least exclude the Oracle data files from the scan. Oracle gets very unhappy if someone else tries to open its data files (or, worse, if someone opens a data file before it gets the chance to acquire exclusive access).

More relevant info can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 ... scroll down to 'Platform Guide' and select the appropriate guide - Windows 32 bit, Windows Itanium, or Windows 64 bit - that is relevant to your environment. I've oracle 11g installed on Windows Server 2003.
I have installed oracle 11g twice, so wasn't sure how to uninstall one version without effecting the other.

Trying to modify the database (using Database Configuration Assistant) results in the error:

If there are forums you would recommend to a completely new oracle sysadmin please let me know.
Many thanks.I recommend you read the '2 Days DBA' manual in order to get a basic understanding. It may be necessary to uninstall the current installation(s), especially the last error message looks like a corrupted environment.

Needed steps for installing oracle 10R2 on windows server 2003
Hi to All,
Can anybody give me steps for how to install oracle 10R2 on windows 2003 server in production environment and what is the preinstallation task and postinstallation task.
Thanks and Regards
Mohd KhajaThere is one pre-requisite that is missing from the documentation - ensuring that the administration team is adequately trained.
Since you are asking this question, I wonder whether your team is properly prepared for, and aware of, the possible nuances or changes from default that might be relevant to your environment.
For example, is your team familiar with the concept of Flashback Recovery Area and how it may fit, or conflict with, your production needs? Use of RMAN? Location of Oracle software Inventory and implications in your OS-level backup? How to configure both the software and the database to meet your Service Level Agreement requirements.
The referenced document is an excellent first step, as it asks some of the questions. If you are serious about production stability, you want to go through that as well as get appropriate level of expertise in your shop. -
External table in Oracle 10g and Windows server 2003 problem
I'm having a problem accessing an external table in an Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 server environment. The disk is remote (mapped) to the server. It's the usual access errors, kup-04001 or kup-04063.
I have the [seemingly] exact same setup in an Oracle 9i and Windows 2000 server environment which works perfectly. Services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
In the Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 environment, services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the mapped disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.
This obviously effects mappings, deployments, etc.
Does anyone know if something changed in either the db or the os?
Thank you,
MichaelThank you for your reply.
Your proposal is the standard solution. As a matter of fact, that's how it is on my "old" system. Server "A" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM. Server "B" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM and is where the flat files reside. SYSTEM has full permissions on a disk local to Server "B". Database directoriies defined on Server "A" point to Server "B" remote disk. External Tables on Server "A" are defined with directories that point to Server "B" remote (mapped) disk. I have no problems with this configuration.
I'm having a problem acheiving the same configuration with Oracle 10g and Windows 2003. I guess I'm baffled over the fact it isn't working the same way as my "old" environment. Why shouldn't it? Oracle (and you) want me to start services as a specific user. It shouldn't have to be that way unless something changed in the way the database makes calls to the os or if Microsoft slipped something in with one of it's numerous security patches. -

Oracle 8i on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2
All the installation process works fine but at the end the database creation process fails. When I see the log file it shows, starterdb unable to run.
There is another problem, the setup does not start from CD. When I copy all the files to hard drive and rund setup it works.Your are working with software desupported so long ago Mastadons and Sabre Toothed Kittycats still roamed the earth.
And also long before Windows 2003 on which it is totally untested and unsupported.
Time to move to software supported during the current millennium: That means 10gR2 or 11g.
