Oracle 11.2 failsafe
Dear Experts,
I am looking for Ora 11g fail safe. In SAP Market place I found DVDs for Oralce 11 G and for Oracle client 11.2 but Oracle failsafe was not there.
Can anyone tell me where can I find DVD for Ora 11 g failsafe.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Hi,
Look for the information below
Oracle RDBMS 11.2 Windows DVD (#51038964) (X86_64) including Oracle Failsafe Version 3.4.2. The DVD is also available at http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain -> Oracle -> Oracle Software 11.2 64 Bit (in the right frame) -> Installation -> Windows Server -> Oracle
Have a look into SAP note 1478060 - Oracle 11g Support on Windows: SAP NW 7.<x>-Based Systems
Hope this helps.

Oracle on windows cluster, with failsafe installed. Can it be switched live
Hi all
We have a oracle database, 10.2.0.4, installed on a 2 node Windows cluster (2003 R2 64 bit). Only one node is the active node. On top of this Failsafe is installed.
Oracle is used for SAP.
Normally when I need to switch the Oracle database from node1 to node2 I follow this procedure:
1 bring down SAP
2 set the database offline
3 switch the Oracle database using failsafe
4 set the database online
5 start sap
Being a hospital we just want to have SAP up all the time, this procedure only takes 20 min but I wondered if the switch could be done live
So just go into the failsafe manager and switch, (won't do it in prime time of course)
Can this live switch result in a corrupt database?
Thanks for replyingHi,
to do it really life you need another technology than a "failover cluster". You can use RAC for this.
A failover cluster itself needs to be sure that the stack is down, before bringing it up on the other side. If not this can leed to corruptions... (though Oracle will try to prevent them in most cases)...

Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g
Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
Hope this help. :) -

Oracle 8i Failsafe, Windows 2000, AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY key
Issue: Upgrading the Physical memory on the Windows 2000 Advanced server running Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 to 8GB.
With ref. to metalink Doc ID: Note:225349.1
I understand, it is required to tweak the OS and Oracle 8i to an extent, in order to take advantage of the additional memory.
The following are the changes I am planning in order to have a successful transition.
- Adding the /PAE switch to the boot.ini file.
- Adding USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS=TRUE parameter to the init.ora file.
- Setting DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS = 512000 in the init.ora file.
- Setting DB_BLOCK_LRU_LATCHES = 64 in the init.ora file.
- Setting SHARED_POOL_SIZE = 300M in the init.ora file.
- Adding the registry key AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY with a value equal to 4Gb. (HKLM\Software\Oracle\Homex)
Since this is a failsafe setup, we have multiple homes that showup in the registery (HKLM\Software\Oracle\Homex). I have HOME0 thro HOME3 on both the nodes fo the cluster.
My question is, to which home do i add the AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY key ?
Thanks
ShashiDear alanm.
Thanks for your reply.
Is your machine 32-bit based windows or 64-bit based?
You have set "4GT" with /3GB option.
Is it possible to set AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY over 3Giba bytes on 32-bit windows?
Best Regards.

Oracle FAILSAFE and CVE-2012-1675
Folks,
I'm running Oracle 10.2.0.3 {PATCH 29} on Windows32 with Oracle Failsafe 3.4.4.1. I've tried implementing the IPC fix and the dynamic_registration=OFF fix as prescribed and get the listener.log error listed below with either attempt. It doesn't look like either fix works for FAILSAFE.
+07-MAY-2012 15:00:07 * service_register_NSGR * 1194+
TNS-01194: The listener command did not arrive in a secure transport
How do I implement this fix on my environment?
Any and all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!Hello;
Did you do this ? :
Plus for each database
alter system set local_listener='(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=REGISTER)))' scope = both;
"With COST enabled for TCP attempts to register with the listener from anything other than the local system using TCP is rejected and an event is logged"
TNS-01194
Might look at these as an option :
How to Add New Listeners in a Fail Safe Environment [ID 217096.1]
How to protect a listener with a password in Oracle Fail Safe? [ID 333239.1]

HELP! Oracle FailSafe - Listener fails when adding standalone database
Well, I have a cluster of two nodes with the following specs:
(1) an Oracle 10g database each
(2) Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)
(3) Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition
(4) Intel Itanium Processor
(5) Oracle Failsafe 3.3.3 for Windows 2003 64-bit
The 64-bit Oracle Failsafe doesn't come with Oracle Failsafe Manager, so I used a Failsafe Manager remotely from another clustered servers. The version is also 3.3.3, but it's running on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Well, after connecting to the 64-bit cluster, I added the standalone database to a Cluster Group. There are two cluster groups on the Server:
(1)"Cluster Group" (the default cluster group created by MSCS); containing an IP address, a network name, Oracle Cluster Services, and the Quorum hard drive.
(1)"ORACLE DB" A cluster gropu I created for the database; containing another IP address, a network name for the IP address, and every hard drive volumes of the database files.
The database currently resides on the Node 2 (because I created it there). I have successfully verified the database (using "Verify Standalone Database" option). BUT when I added the database into the cluster group ORACLE DB, it failed with the following message:
23 20:48:48 ** ERROR : FS-10066: Failed to start Windows service OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener for the Oracle Net listener
When I opened the Windows Event Viewer, apparently the Listener Service had started, but it soon "terminated unexpectedly":
At first, the Listener Service appeared to be started:
But this is what happened next; it seemed the Listener Service terminated abruptly after entering the running state for a very short time:
What happened? What should I do? What is the problem? Many thanks!
PS: the following are the messages from both Verifying Standalone Database and Adding Standalone Database. The verification was successfull, but I just failed to add the database:

Is possible Oracle Database on Windows Cluster without FailSafe ???
Hi Guys,
I have one doubt that can we have Active/Passive Oracle Database on Windows (2k3/2k8) Cluster without installing FailSafe Software ???
Can we have the .bat Scripts for resource moving from Active Node to Passive Node in case of failure, like the way we have in Unix environments...
yours feedback would be appreciated...

Oracle FailSafe on Windows Cluster - Oracle Service Question
I'm running DB10G R2 on a 2 node Windows 2003 Server cluster.
I have configured Oracle FailSafe and the failover 'appears' to be working correctly but I'm confused as to what/how the DB service works.
When I switch between nodes the OracleService<SID> remains at Started on the node I'm switching from, the service on the newly 'active' node never starts. Is this expected behaviour?
The database is accessible from the clients but I'm guessing (am unable to test/prove) that if I power down node1 it won't be.Why can't you test/prove what happens when you power down node1? A critical part of every cluster implementation should be to perform failure testing.
It's been a while since I've worked with Failsafe, but I do remember that all management is performed through the cluster manager application (can't remember what it is called exactly--the MSCS cluster admin tool). You shouldn't have to worry about the services. You should be able to relocate the database, it's storage (drives) and its associated IP address to the other cluster node and verify via the MSCS app that all services are running on that other node. At that point, the original node (node1 in this case) can be powered off, rolled out of the building, whatever you want--database should remain available on node2.
