Oracle 11g - Feature Suggestion

Hello,
I really do not know where to place this suggestion. However I think it is still worth to post it.
What maybe would be nice to have is a new column type PL/SQL. Since many pl/sql code is stored in columns (CLOB) and execute dynamically. With this approach is possible to check if the code compiles and also editing would be more simple since you can actually compile.
I am not DB expert nor close. Sorry if this is a dumb suggestions.
best regards,
Ricardo

Not really, it is unfortunately a common mistake, since you are sort of correct that this happens a lot.
Since many pl/sql code is stored in columns (CLOB) and execute dynamically. But it is still a mistake, since data is stored in tables not code. Code is stored in sub programs - procedures, functions, packages, and views.
Data

Data is often distinguished from programs. A program is a sequence of instructions that detail a task for the computer to perform. In this sense, data is thus everything that is not program code.

So you shouldn't mix them up like that.

  • How Oracle 11g leverages the features of Multi-core Architectures

    Hi,
I am investigating on the oracle 11g features which leverages the features of Multi-core architectures. Can you please give me some articals/papers/web-links which at least gives an introoductory aspects of this.
Do you have some ideas about oracle features which oracle has provided for DB performance on multicore architectures.

    Hi,
here is a link describing the various operations that can benefit from parallel execution. The article is about things that can be done in parallel on a rac cluster but of course you can also run them in parallel on a single SMP server. Most of them are Enterprise Edition features and I think the article does not mention the use of more than one channel for rman backups. Also, you can use datapump with a degree of parallelism (data loads are also mentioned in the article)

Khurram1) Possible topic changes between beta and production.
    2) When reviewed for 11gR2 rather than 11gR1 ... it is possible, but unlikely, there could have been minor topic changes.
    3) IMHO It is unlikely this exam will have further topic changes from those currently shown on the exam page.
( Please note one other exam (117) has possibly recently had issues with not display all topics) ).
Suggest you give more reasons for your question before I will spend any time investigating further, i am pressed for time at the moment.Hi bigdelboy,
Thanks for quick reply. I am going to appear in this exam at this weekend. What basically I wanna ask is that the questions of this exam will be same as when one of my friends appeared 2 months ago?? , or the whole paper/questions could be changed this time ?? I know that the questions came randomly from a set of pool. So is there any possibility that the Oracle has been changed the whole set of pool of questions recently?

  • Newbie Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g feature availability question

Newbie question here. I am new to Oracle 11g and new to this forum. I ran a search on this question and came up empty so hopefully there is a kind and knowlegable soul wo can help.
I recall in earlier versions of Oracle Enterprise Manager for earlier versions of Oracle there was something called Oracle Enteprise Manager Reporting accessible from the OEM web.
One of its key features was the ability to make custom "Additional Reports". In our current environment this is installed and works great. I don't know if it was an add on to OEM, or if it was built in. It was built a long time ago and I wasn't arround for that build. All I know is it works and it suits our needs.
Well we are now trying to build a new Oracle dev box to replace the current dev environment. We would prefer to not lose any existing functionality we have... and if possible not have to reinvent the wheel. The new box has Oracle 11g.
**Here comes the dumb newbie questions. **
Does Oracle 11g Enterprise Manager support 9i-style Enterprise Manager Reporting and Custom Reports?
Is it called that in 11g or has it been renamed to something else?
Is it it a simple matter of configuration or is it an add on that needs to be installed?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
Wayward Oracle Newbie looking for an Oracle Home

Oracle 11g does not support 9i-style custom reports. There is a new reporting framework - Information Publisher available in Grid Control 10+ versions. The new reporting framework does support custom reports as well. Click on the Reports tab to access the functionality.

  • Oracle 11g table compression feature

Is anybody using Oracle 11g's compression feature in production? I read a whitepaper on this and also read some forums/threads on this topic and so far I haven't read anything negative yet, that doesn't meant that there isn't anything that could have an adverse affect. I wanted to check with you guys out there to see if anyone is really using is this feature in production and see if there are any affects on the performance or any disadvantages of using this compression feature. I have tested this on one my major tablespace and I did see a big difference in the reduce size on the tablespace but I am still hesitated to put this into production. I would like to hear from you guys to see what you guys think?

I have tested this on one my major tablespace and I did see a big difference in the reduce size on the tablespace but I am still hesitated to put this into production.Nothing better than testing the solution before you can put into real.

  • 1Z0-050  Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators

Which release are the exam 1Z0-050 - Oracle 11g New Features for Administrators, release 1 or release 2?
I need to study Oracle University Material Release 1 or Release 2?

    Hi,
    I have a question too.
I am 10g certified and looking to take the 11g New Features For Administrators course in the new year.
Previously when I certifed from 8i to 9i and then to 10g it was only required to take the exam and the course was optional although my company sends me anyway.
Looking on Oracles website it seems to be that to do the 11g New Features you now have also have to attend another instructor led course. I have posted a link.
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getlppage?page_id=212&path=DBAU
Can someone confirm if this is the case and that Oracle have changed the format of the New Features upgrade path,
    cheers

  • Is practising on Oracle OLAP features free with Oracle 11g EE?

    Hi,
Is practising on Oracle OLAP features free with Oracle 11g EE??
    Information found in Internet:
    - Oracle Corporation markets the Oracle Database OLAP Option as an extra-cost option to supplement the "Enterprise Edition" of its database.
    - Oracle Database OLAP is there pre-installed along with the rest of Oracle Database EE. You just need to license it for use on the DB Machine when you choose to use it.
    - Oracle OLAP is a world class multidimensional analytic engine embedded in Oracle Database 11g.
Please confirm if I can try some OLAP features in my office where I have Oracle 11g EE installed as I have been asked to do an initial POC?
    Regards,

    Hi there,
I believe that the OLAP license falls under the developer license on OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/testcontent/standard-license-088383.html
You should contact your local Oracle sales rep if you are still unsure

  • Oracle 11g express --- Wish list --- Match or beat IBM and Microsoft

Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft have had support for XSLT and XQuery in their express editions for a while. My wish-list for Oracle 11g express is to match it or even beat it. With increasing adoption of XML a lot of innovation is happening. Oracle is a no-show here.
I had to switch to DB2 from Oracle to be able to take advantange of the IBM Db2 express. Along the way, I will end up purchasing their high-end DB2 offering also.
    Later ...
    /rk

I see Oracle in a dilemma here.
Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual costs $5,800 - dillute this over 3 years and you have a VERY GOOD database for a VERY affordable price. For small shops, this is a no-brainer over Standard Edition.
But alas, suppose 11g XE supports 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage!
Let's think about it. A fast, robust, mature, fully-featured database - for FREE. But wait, there's more - APEX is FREE as well.
XE and APEX make a killer combo. XE's hard-coded limits are cumbersome, but creative DBAs/developers manage to create impressive solutions nonetheless. Without Oracle making a single dollar in licenses.
Simply put, I think 11g XE with 2 CPUs, 2GB RAM and 20 GB of storage would take away customers from Oracle - those currently buying Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual. OK, XE comes with no support, but still, $0 is less than $5,800. The difference is even more significant in a scenario of economic downturn.
It will be interesting to see how Oracle handles this.

Hi, Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft, is true.
But Oracle does not seem to care because the niche is selling software. However, when entering the world of the express editions should confront its closest competitors by relaxing the limits on Oracle Database XE, remove certain restrictions to be at the level of competence DB2 Expreess C 9.5 which has no storage limits and uses up 2 processors and 2GB of RAM.
As someone suggested in another thread, it is possible that Oracle Database XE is the leader of the Express editions, but must improve, I think it would be best to enter the world of the MacOS and relax the limits of storage, memory and CPU. We must offer competitive!.

Is this bug oracle 11g needs group by - why? fixed in 11gR2???

Bottom line - you'll be lucky if you never run into a bug in any release.
I'd always be hesitant to go with any x.1 release including 11.2.0.1.
Bear in mind that you're probably not upgrading today but in a few months time.
    11.2.0.2 is available on Linux

    Dear Gurus,
Lately I have tried to upgrade database for SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 from Oracle 9i (9.2.0.7) to Oracle 11g (11.2.0.2). I have tried some of its features including table and index compression.

But when we try to check this created document number, SAP server replied weird message. It said that this SD document number is not on database and may have been archived.
When I check on ST22, it said "ORA-01502: index 'SAPWPR.VBAP~0' or partition of such index is in unusable state".
FYI, this index has been rebuild and compressed before.

    Hi:
    When I tried to install 64-bit Oracle 11g Release 2 on a system running 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.
One of the system pre-requisites failed with the following error message:

    Actual Result: 6.1
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 11g is not certified on the current operating system.
Recommendation: Make sure you are installing the software on the correct platform.
I presume 6.0 is Windows 2008 Server and 6.1 should be Release 2.
Does this mean that this version is not compatible with Server 2008 Release 2?
