Do a system 'find' and locate 'em.ear'. What is the full path name to it? At acommand prompt, enter the following:
cd \
dir /s em.earcopy the entire session -- command and results, and paste back here.
Also, does the path to the installation files contain any spaces? Does the path to the installed ORACLE_HOME contain any spaces?
You have my condolences for having to work with Windows. To paraphrase a line from a popular movie . . "My momma always said Windows was like a box of chocolates."

  • Oracle 11g stop working after installing Patch 1

I'm new to Oracle. I installed Oracle 11g Database this weekend. The installation went well with no problems. However, after installing the base system I then installed Patch1. I had no problems installing the patch. I restarted my system and then started the EM. I received the following message from the EM:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
What does this mean and how do I fix it?
I then did an uninstall of Oracle 11g and then re-installed it. The problem went away. So I'm confidenced that the installation of Patch 1 caused the problem.
    Thanks for your help.
    Lou

I'm very sorry of the over sight on my part. My environment is as follows: Dell PowerEdge 1900 with 16gb of memory, 2 physical Quad processors and 4tb of disk space. I have the installed Oracle 11g on Windows 2008 Datacenter.
I am trying to upgrade as follows: Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6 to Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.7. I will implement the Post Installation instruction to see what happens. It was an oversight on my part.
    Thanks

  • CRS not starting after Oracle 11g Grid was succesuflly installed

    Hi:
Have 2 node RAC. My Shared storage is on openfiler.
Oracle 11g Grid was successfully installed and all the services was working fine. When i restarted the system I found CRS was not coming up. Remaining processes were up and running.
    Let me explain what I did: (O/s RHEL 5.4 & oracle 11g R2 grid)
I have a partition in shared disk /dev/sdc1 (I have other partitions, but thought of using only one for OCR and voting disk). (did not define it as raw partition as I used to do in 10g RAC).
While installing Oracle grid and when it prompted to enter the Diskgroup for OCR and Voting disk I gave a name DGDATA and choose only one (external redundancy) disk “/dev/sdc1″ (it does not ask for one for OCR and one for Voting as it used to do in 10g clusterware installation). As per my assumption both OCR and Voting disk were created within /dev/sdc1 (after installation when I queried I got the same info)
The Oracle grid installation has gone through successfully. when I restart the system I find CRS not starting.
The log says: “Error PROC:26: Error while accessing the physical storage ASM……..
    ORA-01034: oracle not available...
    Could not init OCR, code:26….
    Linux permission denied".
For your information….ASM instance is up (check in both the nodes) and I find the diskgroup mounted.
    Can anyone help on this.
Also let me know how to uninstall Oracle 11g Grid software and configuration. If I have to reinstall the Oracle 11g grid software and config once again is it possible without reinstalling RHEL. Let me know the steps or any link please. don't want to get into a mess again.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle 11g for production

    Hi,
I have download oracle 11g for linux.
We have one to create a new database for one of our production system.
Shall I create the database on 11g or wait for some time.(we have tested the application on 10g)
    Regards
    MMU

Hans and I seem to be giving the same advice here.
The point I was trying to make was to be careful.
There are probably more important things to consider
rather than acting on the urge for the latest and
greatest technology piece.Yes. Perhaps different phrases meaning the same thing help a person understand better,.
After all, the biggest part of an upgrade process is 'understanding risk' and the biggest part of the DBAs job in production is 'mitigating risk'. For Risk Management, the more perspectives, the better.
That is really our job in a nutshell. And that may be why we often have challenges with developer's - their job is to get new capabilities and due to their time pressures they may not be looking at risks the same way. (Just look at how much exception handling the typical developer does.)

Sorry, you are right and it's my fault. Thanks for the tip. I saw the versions listed when I did the install, but I didn't realize I needed to select any because I thought it would install automatically for whichever VS versions you had installed.
    Thanks again! :)

Excellent test case, may by you should raise an SR and hope it ends up as a bug.
What happens if you "ping box01.data.local" what IP Address do you get back? You should be looking to get back the loopback address.
What happens if you do a nslookup 192.168.30.64 and 192.168.1.100?
Have you tred setting ORACLE_HOSTNAME? Not sure if this is just for the installer or not.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 64bit install problem

    Hi all,
    I had a installation problem of 64bit Oracle Linux 6.2 with HP proliant dl380 g7 (build-in P410i array controller),
when i try to install the OS, it will keep in black screen after loading the vmlinuz.
I had try the 5.8 32bit version it can pass the vmlinuz.
So, I guess it may be related to driver.
Does any one can help me fix this problem.
    thanks,
    Kenny

I suggest to try the following:
When the bootloader screen prompts you to press any key to enter the menu... press any key.
Move the cursor to your default Linux kernel, normally Oracle Linux UEK and press the letter 'e'.
Move the cursor down 1 line to the kernel parameter and press the letter 'e' again.
    Add the word "nomodset".
If you want to see more details, remove "rhgb quiet"
Press the Enter key when done
Press the letter 'b' to boot the system
If all works, edit /etc/grub.conf and modify the kernel parameter line for a permanent change.

  • Pls hlp: Oracle 8.16/Forms 6i Install Problems

I am currently running Oracle 8.16 on WIN2K w/o any problems. I want to install Forms and Reports 6i on same machine. Pls tell me how to correctly install Forms and Reports 6i and allow me to use current database in Oracle 8.16.. Thanks

First of all, I wouldn't recommend it. We have many years of experience with Oracle versions 7 through 8i Release 2 and the various incantations of Developer from 2.1 through 6i and the simple fact is that if you try to run them on the same NT system, you will have nothing but headaches. In fact, I would not even run Forms Server and Reports Server on the same machine and definitely NOT either on an 8.1.6 server.
That having been said, begin by reading the 8i Administrator's Guide for Release 2 (8.1.6) for Windows NT. Chapter 3 explains the Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA, which is a solution to the problem you describe but which cannot easily be retrofit onto even the most current versions of Developer, which use older versions of Net8. This chapter should discourage you even more, but if it doesn't....
Remember that you will need to create your 8.1.6 ORACLE_HOME, FIRST! Install your server there.
Next, install your Forms and Reports Servers:
    1. You MUST create a separate ORACLE_HOME for each of these.
    2. Don't install these on the same machine as each other or 8.1.6 if you are going to use OEM to start them. In other words, install them as NT services.
    3. Ideally (and I mean STRONGLY recommended). Create two adminstrator-level accounts, one for each of Reports Server and Forms Server and do the install as someone in this account. Make sure that you have a default printer set up for the Oracle Reports Server account.
    4. Make sure that your DEFAULT ORACLE_HOME is the home of the Forms Server for the Forms Server operation (and the DEFAULT ORACLE_HOME for the REPORTS_SERVER is the Reports Server ORACLE_HOME). This is why you do not want to install these as Administrator. If you do, you'll run into loads of problems with networking.
    5. You will need to make note of your NT Registry AFTER the 8.1.6 install but BEFORE the Forms/Reports server install and AFTER the Forms/Reports server install. The registry entries for Oracle products changed with OFA so you will end up with a hybrid of the pre-OFA (Forms/Reports registry) and the OFA registry. Since software using the former will not look for keys created by the latter, make sure that you enter your configuration details (such as REPORTS60_REPORTS_SERVER) in the right branch or things won't work and you won't know why.
Again, I would strongly recommend that you don't do this, but rather, you get a couple of dedicated machines to run the Forms and Reports Server.
Also, if you are going to make either of these accessible via the Web, you will need to consider your WebDb (or alternative) setup as well.
FYI, after trying NUMEROUS configurations with these, we now run 8.1.6, Forms Server and Reports Server on three different machines and run the Web CGI's for Forms and Reports on a fourth machine. That is what I would recommend that you do.

  • Oracle VM Server 2.2 Install Problems (Management Info Screen Skipped)?

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle VM Server and I basically following the install guide to install the server on a spare machine we have in the office (a relatively new Dell with an i7 processor and 8gb memory) so we can evaluate it and play with it a bit.
When running the install from a bootable CD everything goes as expected and documented in the install guide up to point number "11. The Oracle VM Management Interface screen is displayed." - when we install it skips these screens and jumps directly to step "15. TimeZone Selection."
We continued with the install but when the VM Server comes up we have no network enabled?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bren

    Hi BOF,
if the network screen is not displayed during installation, the network card could not correctly be identified, and it may be that the network drivers are not installed.
If you are lucky, the network is still detected and working, but not with the correct drivers.
Did you use OVM Server 2.2. or the latest 2.2.1 (which includes some more network card detections?).
Otherwise I recommended getting the correct network drivers for the card and installing them after the server is running.
Keep in mind, that OVM Server 2.2 is based on OEL 5.3 (respectivly RHEL 5.3) if you are looking for the correct drivers.
Maybe this thread on realtek network cards can give you some more information:
