Oracle 11g FREE download installation issues

I am installing this database on an HP Pavilion Desktop
I essentially have TWO (2) issues.
1st ISSUE
I was able to successfully run the setup.exe and my Oracle 11g is now installed.
When I go to start, programs, Oracle, Application Development, SQL Plus
it opens a windown for SQL plus, however, I am not able to do anything.
I followed the install instructions about setting up the ODBC drivers, however I still
can not get this to work. Would also like to know how to set access to this up as a desktop icon.
2nd ISSUE
Acording to the README..for the Oracle Enterprise Edition, I was only required to download
V20610-01 Part 1 of 2
V20610-01 Part 2 of 2
V20609-01
V20606-01
V19145-01
The Oracle Fusion Middleware download V18762-01 they said was OPTIONAL (O)
Because I was having problems with the install where it was coming up with errors about
not finding files, I downloaded ALL the ones from the list which were for 64bit INCLUDING Orcale Fusion Middleware.
Only then did my install work properly.
What I need to know is, on a desktop where I will be the only user,
IS THE ORACLE FUSION MIDDLEWARE REQIRED?
If NOT, and I completed the install, what will happen if I delete that folder (size is 11G)?
Please advise!

  • Oracle 11g R2 Windows Installation issue

    Hey everybody,
i was trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit machine. During the installation i am getting an error message multiple times (about 20 times) where it says it cannot find certain files like C:\app\ora11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear and some other files too. If i click move on in the dialog box each time an error occurs the installation will succeed and finish successfully.
What am I doing wrong, do I have to change anything before installation starts?
I am using the correct 64-bit installation files i downloaded from the Oracle homepage...

    Hi Hans,
know I found where it contains the information about the downloads. It only shows up when you click on the "See All", but it won´t show up if you directly download via the Disk 1 or Disk 2 link on the download page. Good point. I never would have believed noobs would stop at that page and not be curious about what other stuff might be available under 'See All'. Stuff like the 'De-install' package.
Since you didn't do it, I posted a comment/suggestion in the Download forum to put an additional note on the top 11gR2 download page.
What brings up more confusion is when you click on the "See All" button next to the download for the 32-bit Version of 11g R2 for Windows an error comes up. Worked for me.
You reported your error ... where?
So I think Oracle needs to improve its homepage a lot...If you have ideas there is a forum "Forum Home » Technology Network Community » Community Feedback and Suggestions" in which you you are welcome to submit comments.

  • Deinstall Failed Oracle 11g 32-bit installation

I haven't been able to de-install a failed/incomplete Oracle 11g 32-bit installation from Windows 7. I downloaded the deinstall utility for this configuration, but when I ran the bat file (the only executable file I found), it flashed an error and quit, before I could even read why it failed. What am I missing, please?

ur problem is that u install latest version and now u trying to installing old version.
now u need to uninstall 10g and delete oracle from services, if the probleme presist then u should
    install fresh windows 7.

SaqibNo need to install a fresh OS. That's like tearing your house down just because you wired a lamp wrong and blew a circuit breaker.
There are MeaLink notes on how to eradicate an Oracle install from Windows, but it boils down to this:
    Stop all Oracle services
    In the registery:
    - Delete all oracle services from the register (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
    - Delete the entire Oralce folder from HKLM\Software
    reboot
Delete the ORACLE_HOME directory and any other Oracle related directories/files. Offhand, it seems like there is an Oracle directory under Program Files.
    reboot

    Hy Guys,
Please can someone help me with: Oracle 11g R1 Automatic Installation shell scripts. A guide, how to or a link will be wellcome

    Hi Easyman,
sure, just have a look in $INSTALL_CONF directory. Files starting with swInst* are referencing a response file from $INSTALL_CONF/response directory. Either use a sample configuration file or add your own response file to install Oracle.

  • No rootpre.sh file found in Oracle 11g r1 download for AIX

I downloaded the 11.1.0.6.0 version of Oracle 11g from the website and unzipped it with the unzip_aix on a Power7 system. The files were unzipped into a directory called database. I could not find the rootpre.sh script anywhere. What am I missing?
The download site mentions a rootpre_aix.zip file for downloads prior to January 2008... confused and unexperienced. Wouldn't any download be after 2008?
    Edited by: user8962451 on Apr 2, 2010 7:34 AM

Same here. The installation instructions for Oracle in AIX is asking to run the preRoot.sh. Where can I get it this file, since I do not have Oracle CD.

  • Oracle 11G javaw Universal Installer error

    Hey all,
I'm trying to install Oracle 11G on XP Pro and I'm having all sorts of problems. I downloaded the complete installer:
    <b>Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0)</b>
and I receive the following error when I attempt to install:
<b>The Java RunTime Enviroment was not found at bin/javaw.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run. Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.</b>
I installed JRE 1.4.2.18 rebooted the computer and tried to install again and still recieved the same error.
I checked the path to javaw.exe in the Java Control Panel and the path is there. I even disabled the one that was created with the install and still no luck.
I saw something in the fourms about the need to disable your firewall because the Oracle Installer writes to the registry. I am running Macafee and have disabled my firewall and still no luck.
Finally, back to the Java Control Panel. Under the "Java tab" --> then clicking the "view" button under the "Java Application Runtime Settings" there are two tabs, "User" and "System" that show paths for the Java software location on the system. Under the "user" tab there are two entries for the JRE 1.4 and 1.6 platforms, but only one entry (1.6) under the "system" tab, with no way for me to add a path to that tab. Please note I am using an Administrator account
    Thanks for any assistance

Hmmm...you downloaded the entire .zip file and checked the length?
You unzipped the file with directory structures intact?
You ran the setup file at the top of the unzipped directory strucure?
You read the installation manual and made sure all prerequisites for installation are met?

We had a similar issue when our organization upgraded to 11gR2.
It looks like it boils down to a change Oracle made in regards to how it works with correlated subqueries within an insert statement.
Anyway, this thread has a little more information:
Merge Command in 10g vs 11g
And it says to look at Metalink note 1109983.1 (which I can't seem to find).
Anyway, a workaround in thread is suggests (which worked for us) to wrap the insert subquery around a dummy decode clause, and oddly it will work.
    eg:
    INSERT (COL1, COL2) VALUES (1, (decode(1,1,(SELECT x.COL4 FROM TMP_TABLE3 x WHERE x.COL4 = DDD.P_ID)) ) ) ;
Quite a kludge, but at least it is an immediate fix to the problem, without having to rewrite anything.

  • Assistance needed during Oracle 11G R2 client installations in Windows 2008

  • Windows 7, Oracle 11g Client Post-Installation Error

    Hello all--
    Background Info:
    - I have installed Oracle 11g Client (32-bit) on my Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) workstation.
    - The ORACLE_HOME directory (in my case C:\Oracle\Ora11g) is in the PATH environment variable.
    - I have created TNS_ADMIN as an environment variable that points to a network folder that contains our tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora.
    - I can tnsping our servers and sqlplus connects without issue.
    - I am logged in as a regular network user (added into the local Administrators group on my machine).
The problem is that I cannot connect using a user or system DSN in the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, BUT, I can connect with a DSN when I am logged in with the local Administrator account. I have verified the DSNs are setup correctly. The error I get is the ORA-12154 error.
Here is the exact error as it appears:
    Unable to connect
    SQLState=08004
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
If I copy the tnsnames.ora file from the network to my machine and remove/redirect TNS_ADMIN to the %ORACLE_HOME%\NETWORK\ADMIN folder, it works with my user account.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hi All--
I figured out what the problem was and I wanted to share what our solution was.
Basically, when you open the Microsoft ODBC Administrator in Windows 7, it has to run with elevated privileges and loads the Administrator profile. Our tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files are on a network share that we map to a drive letter for all users across our organization. The Administrator profile does not have this drive mapping. So I created the TNS_ADMIN environment variable with the full UNC path and I was able to test DSNs successfully.
    Regards,
    Matt

  • Install Oracle 11g without APEX installation

    Hi,
Since I don't want to use the embedded PL/SQL gateway as the default Web server, can I just install Oracle 11g database software with any APEX and PL/SQL gateway installation? I prefer to manually install APEX 3.2 to make sure that everything is clean.
Also, can Oracle 11g use Apache 2 version of the Oracle HTTP Server?
    Thanks.
    Andy

    Andy:
You can simply install APEX 3.2 over the version that is already in the 11g database. The OHS supplied with 11g cn be used to access your APEX installation.
You can disable HTTP access to the database by executing the following as the sys user
    exec dbms_xdb.sethttpport(0);

I probably should not be surprised but to recap some of what your presentation noted ... it sounds like 11.2 was pushed out quickly and the linux version is missing fixes that oracle knows should have been included in the base release? From my point of view this is fact. 11g Release 2 was released primary due to marketing reasons. The release of the final and public version took place only two weeks after beta 2 was released.
Beta 2 was quite stable; altough the real productive testing starts now where many users test this release with lots of data. Because of this i stated to wait at least until the first patchset
(which will raise the version to 11.2.0.2.0) before going productive. Until now it is for testing and preparing for migration. But thats my opinion. If anybody uses 11g Release 2 in production
i would like to share experiences.
Some of the postings that I saw on the web specifically noted 11.2.0.2 on some of the software versions ( maybe these were from beta's ? ) so it sounds like there is already perhaps a bunch of maintenance that should be on I have not seen 11.2.0.2.0 yet. My personal tip is the first patchset will be release beginning next year...

The problem is that when i open the database control URL page and then enter my credentials, it fails to log in and says that an internal error has occurred. Please view the log files. I have also seen the logs but didn't find anything helpful. Kindly help.

I got this data from 'emoms.log' It's not the full log file. It's just a last few part of it.
May be this is the required one.
